Best day ever!

Wow! What a great venue!

From start to finish, and I mean the very first viewing to a week after our wedding at gaynes, the experience was amazing.

The venue itself is stunning, with a great variety of places to be for us and our guests, all within less than a minutes walk of each other. The orangery specifically was magical and ideal for us. The breakfast barn was stunning and the venue stylists did a great job (we recommend the fairy lights!!)

The catering was great too, the food was amazing, and the canopes were great, they even reserved a plate for us so we did not miss out amidst photography moments.

What really sets it apart is the customer service - Victoria and the rest of the team were attentive, communicative and easy to reach. We were especially grateful for the last minute additions and changes they allowed us for our guests.

We had no problems with the contracts and payments - the payment tracking portal is clear and defined deadlines, and it was no issue when we paid a day late. The terms and conditions, which we fully accepted and were prepared for, were also clear and we had plenty of time to review them before making our decision.

All in all, the venue and service were perfect throughout and I can definitely recommend Gaynes!

THANKS - really it exceeded our expectations!

Dear Russ,
What a joy to read and the sort of feedback we would normally expect to hear!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re SO delighted to hear that your whole experience with Gaynes Park, from your very first visit right through to after your wedding, was so wonderfully positive. It’s lovely to know you enjoyed the different spaces, as we cared so much about making the spaces flow and be as beautiful, stylish, welcoming and light filled as possible. We are so happy you mentioned the gorgeous Orangery and our Mill Barn ie Wedding Breakfast Barn, and that the food and service made such an impression. Right from when we first invested in converting our old barns we wanted to work with a catering company we would want to have and reflected our high levels of attention to detail, delicious food and presentation and lovely staff. Victoria and the team will be so pleased to read your kind words, particularly about their support with those last-minute changes. We’re so truly thrilled we could help make your day everything you hoped for – and more! Best wishes for the future, please keep in contact as we will adore to hear how your love story continues. Mediterranean Occasions the in house stylist who did the twinkly lighting you loved will also be delighted to read your lovely words.

With warm thanks

Pure disappointment and upset

Today should have been the happiest day of our lives — our wedding day at Gaynes Park. Instead, we are left utterly heartbroken, devastated, and thousands of pounds out of pocket. What should have been a day filled with love and joy has been overshadowed by broken promises, hidden costs, and a complete lack of care from the venue we trusted.

When we first visited Gaynes Park, we were filled with excitement. We were given a rough quote both in person and in writing, which felt fair and manageable — it felt like the start of our dream. But once our deposit and payments were taken, everything changed. The warm communication and support stopped. We were left ignored, isolated, and treated as nothing more than a source of money. Despite spending thousands, we were not updated, not invited to venue events, and not treated like valued clients — only chased for more and more payments, far beyond what we had ever been led to expect. In the end, our costs had risen by a significant amount, with little explanation and no compassion.

Every attempt we made to find a solution was met with coldness and refusal. We were told to cut down our guest list — impossible with our big families. We were offered nothing more than a single free bottle of wine per table as “compensation.” On top of this, we were faced with absurd and punishing charges: £1,500 for a dance floor, or else risk a £1,000 fine if theirs was scratched; £750 fines if guests stood on certain areas; music to stop at 11:30pm; the bridal suite locked until 9:30am — completely unrealistic for a bride, bridesmaids, and family trying to get ready. Every request for understanding or flexibility was met with a cold and heartless “no.”

The financial and emotional strain became overwhelming. We begged to move our date to the following year — just to have some breathing room — but were refused. With heavy hearts, we made the agonising decision to walk away. We were told the venue would help resell our date, but this promise too was empty. They failed to communicate with us, mishandled an enquiry from a couple interested in our date, and showed no genuine effort to help.

And so here we are today. Our wedding day — the day we dreamed of for so long — has been stolen from us. Gaynes Park has kept a significant amount of our money without giving us a single moment of the wedding we imagined. We are left grieving not only the loss of our savings, but the loss of the memories we should be making right now as newlyweds.

Yes, Gaynes Park may look beautiful on the surface. But behind the pretty façade is a business driven not by love or care for couples, but by greed and indifference. They turned what should have been our most precious day into a nightmare, and we wouldn’t wish this pain on anyone else. Please, think carefully before booking.

Reply from Gaynes Park

Dear Aimee and Alfie,

We are genuinely sorry that Sunday was not the day you had once planned and hoped for. We recognise how emotional this must be for you both, and we want to respond with compassion for your circumstances while also clarifying several important points for the benefit of others reading.

Thank you also for your kind words about the beauty of Gaynes Park. It means a great deal to our team, who work incredibly hard to keep the venue looking and being so special for every couple.

We were saddened to read your comments and would like to address three of the key concerns raised — specifically those of “broken promises,” “hidden costs,” and “a lack of care.” With respect, these do not reflect the reality of how we work with our couples, and we would like to clarify:

On costs: Our pricing — including venue hire and catering — is clearly outlined before any deposit is paid. Brochures and itemised quotes are shared at the pre-sale stage, and a detailed payment schedule is issued at the time of booking. This ensures couples know what to expect financially throughout the planning timeline, with no unexpected bills in the final weeks.
On flexibility: We supported your request to move your original 2024 wedding date to 2025 without applying the usual transfer fees — a gesture made in recognition of the challenges you were facing. A second transfer, particularly so close to the event date, could not be accommodated without following the agreed booking terms, which were clearly set out from the beginning. We understand how difficult this must have felt, and we extended as much flexibility as possible within those parameters.
On care and support: Throughout your planning, we reached out on multiple occasions to offer help and understanding. While we know the outcome has been deeply disappointing, many of our actions went beyond the usual framework of our contract and were offered in good faith to support you.
Guidelines such as access and finish times, and other venue policies are in place to protect the property, ensure fairness, and meet licensing obligations. These are communicated transparently and respectfully at the point of booking. With regards to a refundable dance floor deposit that is something to be addressed with the venue stylist you hire the dancefloor from if you chose to have one.

We also made genuine efforts to resell your cancelled date and responded to all enquiries with care and professionalism. While resale cannot be guaranteed, we acted fully in line with our obligations and would also want to replace a cancelled booked date.

We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations, yet we stand by the efforts made to support you throughout. We will not be commenting further publicly, but as previously discussed, we remain open to continuing our direct communication should you wish.

We wish you both the very best moving forward.

— The Gaynes Park Team.

Gaynes Park Made My Worst Life Experience Even Worse

My ex-fiancée cancelled our wedding 3 months before the wedding and after I had given them more than £10000 for the venue, food, and optional accommodation. They refused to refund a single penny and threatened to charge me another £2000. I had to fight losing another £2k in return for nothing but heartbreak at the worst time in my life. They don't care about you - they want your money.

As wedding photographers

As wedding photographers, we have had the pleasure of capturing countless beautiful moments at Gaynes Park, a stylish and contemporary country wedding barn in Epping, Essex. The venue is tucked away in the serene countryside, surrounded by lush farmland and woodland, with the London skyline in the distance. Despite its tranquil and secluded setting, the venue is easily accessible from London, making it the perfect location for a country wedding that's convenient for all guests.

One of the standout features of Gaynes Park is its versatility. It can host both civil ceremonies and wedding receptions, allowing couples to spend their entire day at the venue without the need for transportation. Additionally, with on-site accommodation available, guests can enjoy a seamless experience without having to leave at the end of the night.

The venue is privately owned and gives couples the freedom to create their perfect wedding day, with the option to choose their own entertainment and services. The picturesque surroundings make for a breathtaking backdrop for those all-important wedding photographs.

The Perkins Family has done a wonderful job restoring the former Plumtree railway station goods shed into a stunning and unique venue. The level of detail and care that has gone into the restoration is evident in every aspect of the venue. From the magnificent views to the outstanding service and award-winning menus, Gaynes Park truly delivers a memorable and special experience for its guests.

In conclusion, we highly recommend Gaynes Park as a wedding venue. Its prime location, versatile space, and beautiful surroundings make it a hidden gem for couples looking to celebrate their love in style.

Kindest regards
The Kensington Photographers

Sound Limiter at Gaynes Park

I have heard on occasion some feedback that has been discussed amongst DJ’s that the limiter at Gaynes Park prevents music from being played loud enough in the main part of the Mill Barn to create a brilliant party atmosphere. Not in my experience at all!

Professionals can play music loud enough for wedding guests to hear, feel and dance to with a combination of skill, experience and equipment. I have been doing this successfully at Gaynes Park for many years.

My speaker of choice is the Bose L1 because it features a 12-speaker articulated line array system, offering 180 degrees of horizontal coverage while maintaining a consistent sound level. This means the rich, full sound this speaker system delivers fills both the room where the DJ is set up and the main barn with floor-filling music. Once a skilled professional sets the top, mid-section and bass correctly, there are no sound issues, and the limiter is literally no problem.

Have a brilliant wedding!

Where to even start with describing…

Where to even start with describing Gaynes park. We had our wedding here on Monday and it was the most magical, most beautiful fairytale wedding we ever could of asked for! Let me begin with the cottage. It was beautiful and I felt like a celebrity while getting ready for my big day. Then there's Aimie! Nothing was too much for her and she felt like a sister with how caring and amazing she was! She was so reassuring and positive and that helped massively with my nerves! She helped to guide my 3 year old son for most of the wedding and he loved her so much. It was the little things like holding his hand helping him with what to do and where to go as we was making our way to the isle. She played a massive part of our wedding and having her there was just wonderful! Now for the isle and orangry, it was just simply breathtakingly beautiful! I can't even describe the views with how stunning they were! After the ceremony it was time to go for photos and my photographer was spoilt for choice! There were so many beautiful spots to go to! Now the barn, everything was beautiful and just simply perfection! It was set up so well by the staff and they were dressed so smart and professional and again nothing was too much for them. Now the food, it was so mouthwatering and tasty! Simply the best bbq I have ever tasted and the presentation was amazing! I would just like to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Gaynes park for making our day the best one ever! Your work is incredible and you are all so polite, professional and friendly! All of our guests are telling us how it was one of the best weddings they have ever been to. Aimie you are truly amazing and so good at what you do and without you I would have been a bag of nerves! So thank you so much!

What an absolutely gorgeous venue

What an absolutely gorgeous venue - you couldn't ask for a more beautiful spot to get married (August 2020). On top of that, there are so many parts to the venue (The Apple Loft, The Orangery, The Gardens, The Viewpoint, The Gather Barn, The Mill Barn, The Coach House) that even if you're there all day none of it gets old, and there's a place to be to match your mood. Everything is done to a high spec, the food was excellent, and the staff were wonderful - from fixing the mother of the bride's shoe to keeping the drinks flowing and everyone smiling (even during a pandemic!). The Coach House was a luxurious place to stay - an amazing bride & groom suite - and the breakfast was plentiful and scrumptious! We only wish we could get married here all over again!

1st wedding after 2020 lockdown

A beautiful venue! My sister got married here in August 2020, and they did a phenomenal job to make it a really special day.
They have thought of everything when it comes to protecting all the guests from COVID19 as well as allowing the bride and groom to have a beautiful wedding day. I am a worrier, but I felt completely safe throughout the time spent there and nobody contracted the virus on the wedding day. I would definitely recommend to any couple getting married during the pandemic and after. Don’t think twice about booking here. The coach house accommodation was so clean I could have eaten off the floor, super comfortable I didn’t want to wake up and so quiet and peaceful.
Thank you Donna and her team for making my sister’s day so perfect and for keeping us all safe.

Our daughter got married at Gaynes Park…

Our daughter got married at Gaynes Park last week 16th September. The Venue is simply the best and most delightful and tranquil place. Firstly the grounds and gardens are breathtaking. The effort put in by the owners is first class. The Orangery where my daughter and her now husband had their ceremony was just perfection - thereafter we had the dinner, speeches and dancing in the Great Barn which was out of this world. The staff were attentive, gracious and all silver service, their uniformed appearance and white gloves made the event event more spectacular. We had the best ever Menu delivered and served by the best chefs - the food was Michelin stared and could not have been more delicious.

We started the day with myself the Mother of the bride and our 3 bridesmaids at 9.15am in The Apple Loft - the most quaint and delightful cottage for the Bride to be to get ready with her team of hairdressers and makeup artists - champagne on the side and music to create the best pre Wedding vibes. We all had lovely quality time together till 12 noon. The Senior members of Gaynes Park were on hand to help with everything, Chloe and Yvonne. Chloe is just the most kind hearted dedicated girl with so much empathy and does her job so very well. The owners appeared to show their appreciation and to make sure everything was running smoothly.

The Orangery Wedding Ceremony was just pure, the Love in that Orangery from everyone was clearly felt, the Registrars were overwhelmed with the adoring breathtaking glances from my daughter walking the long aisle path through the gardens to the Orangery - it was picture perfect.

Our evening was full of life and fun and even when everyone had finally finished celebrating which was1.00am where we were all able to relax in the comfort of the gardens and in the relaxing furniture, those that were staying at the Coach House made their way to the first class rooms. The quarters are beautifully and tastefully decorated and well equipped with everything you could possibly wish for - for a one night stay.

The next morning was followed by the family get together for the Wedding Breakfast, laid on in first class style in the Wedding Breakfast room overlooking the lovely courtyard, well presented by the staff and who were attentive as usual. We finally left GP at 10.00am. - With the best memories ever for our daughter.

The Wedding was my daughters best day of her life - and we cannot thank GP enough for making this day so so special.

Gaynes Park in my opinion and that of our family and guests is the best Venue in Essex. We looked at many and are so pleased that our daughter chose GP.

When I mention to people Gaynes Park - if they already know of GP they say - "oh amazing that place is simply stunning" - and how true that is.

Thank you Gaynes Park, Staff and Owners for keeping and making this place so perfect.
