Pure disappointment and upset
Today should have been the happiest day of our lives — our wedding day at Gaynes Park. Instead, we are left utterly heartbroken, devastated, and thousands of pounds out of pocket. What should have been a day filled with love and joy has been overshadowed by broken promises, hidden costs, and a complete lack of care from the venue we trusted.
When we first visited Gaynes Park, we were filled with excitement. We were given a rough quote both in person and in writing, which felt fair and manageable — it felt like the start of our dream. But once our deposit and payments were taken, everything changed. The warm communication and support stopped. We were left ignored, isolated, and treated as nothing more than a source of money. Despite spending thousands, we were not updated, not invited to venue events, and not treated like valued clients — only chased for more and more payments, far beyond what we had ever been led to expect. In the end, our costs had risen by a significant amount, with little explanation and no compassion.
Every attempt we made to find a solution was met with coldness and refusal. We were told to cut down our guest list — impossible with our big families. We were offered nothing more than a single free bottle of wine per table as “compensation.” On top of this, we were faced with absurd and punishing charges: £1,500 for a dance floor, or else risk a £1,000 fine if theirs was scratched; £750 fines if guests stood on certain areas; music to stop at 11:30pm; the bridal suite locked until 9:30am — completely unrealistic for a bride, bridesmaids, and family trying to get ready. Every request for understanding or flexibility was met with a cold and heartless “no.”
The financial and emotional strain became overwhelming. We begged to move our date to the following year — just to have some breathing room — but were refused. With heavy hearts, we made the agonising decision to walk away. We were told the venue would help resell our date, but this promise too was empty. They failed to communicate with us, mishandled an enquiry from a couple interested in our date, and showed no genuine effort to help.
And so here we are today. Our wedding day — the day we dreamed of for so long — has been stolen from us. Gaynes Park has kept a significant amount of our money without giving us a single moment of the wedding we imagined. We are left grieving not only the loss of our savings, but the loss of the memories we should be making right now as newlyweds.
Yes, Gaynes Park may look beautiful on the surface. But behind the pretty façade is a business driven not by love or care for couples, but by greed and indifference. They turned what should have been our most precious day into a nightmare, and we wouldn’t wish this pain on anyone else. Please, think carefully before booking.
