I was backpacking for a few months and needed something flexible and budget friendly. Genki offered just that. Thankfully I didn't have any serious medical situations, but when I did need to go to the... See more

Genki are not a proper insurer
UPDATE FOLLOWING THE REPLY FROM GENKI. HERE ARE THE FACTS:
I have repeatedly explained that in January 2024 an xray was done for VISA purposes that showed no problems at all. Later on another xray was done in January 2025 for a completely different country visa. This second xray showed a possible problem that the doctor then required to be investigated. As part of the investigation from the JANUARY 2025 xray our claim was for further xray and the specialist report. Genki was already the insurer from June 2024, so well before the claim or anything showed up on any medical files. In fact, the clear xray of January 2024 is evidence that there was NO MEDICAL ISSUE prior to taking up insurance with Genki.
ORIGINAL POST:
Genki are not a proper insurer. They have an AI based claim process that is unfamiliar with medical processes in Oceania. Most of their reviews below seem to be by bots. I spent months trying to resolve a claim but they cannot process claims, just take money. Really look at all the aspects of your needs before giving them your money. Many others have said they are a scam or a pyramid scheme.
Be aware that because they do not process claims, and the AI "dr walter" they use is not properly familiar with medical processes, your claim for anything remotely complex will be denied. I have never seen them pay out for hospital stays or serious accidents or illnesses. So be smart and take your business elsewhere. Furthermore, as I logged complaints on their facebook page, they did not reply but blocked me entirely. Very unprofessional.

A great insurance for digital nomands
This is quite a nice insurance that you can get as a digital nomad. Easy to get - easy to manage. Great price! They send you a notification about the upcoming payment a few days before it, I find it very user friendly. I got this insurance when I was living a digital nomad life and I didn’t regret my choice!!
As a former customer, I will come back again if I need it. I highly recommend it to other people 👍
I have been told that
I have been told that , in order to get a refund of my expenses , I have to send them trhough the Member center , but this a vilation of my privacy!

Yes yes
You make unnecessary deductions from the bills to be paid under insurance. In other words, you do not pay. This shakes the trust in you a little. I send a bill for $700. You pay me $440.

So easy to sign up and clearly states what you are paying for. Thank you, Genki! (And to Jets for assisting me with recent questions) I’m very impressed!
Ideal and flexible health insurance cover for long trip
Great global health insurance cover, easy to understand, uncomplicated sign in and subscription process, daily cancellation option, excellent customer service
I am really Happy with you insurance
I am really Happy with you insurance, I had always response really quickly.
Very fast resolving of small claims
I have Genki Native Basic and I had the first claim just a couple weeks after subscribing.
It was a very small claim (I hit the edge of the swimming pool with my face 🫠), 3 visits to the hospital costed me around 90€ total.
I don’t know how Genki manages more serious claims (and, I hope, will never check), but here I was really shocked by their speed. For all 3 invoices I got money in less than 24 hours (actually for last 2 invoices money came to my Revolut account in 8 hours after submitting the claim). No additional questions, nothing.
I didn’t imagine that an insurance could work as fast.
It's not worth the effort or cost
It's not worth the effort or cost. Like most insurance companies, they will do everything in their power not to pay claims, even if they are clearly violating their own policies, or if the costs are negligible to them. There is little recourse because you are unlikely to be a resident of the nation where they are headquartered, so there is nowhere to file a formal complaint or suit. They are very slow to respond to any query. The website often does not work to accept payments or proceed to the next steps in the enrollment process, and only sporadic online chat is available for assistance. They also point to their partners like Dr Walter or Allianz and don’t take accountability themselves. Not a satisfied customer. Not recommending them to friends and family.

To anyone working in customer service…
To anyone working in customer service THANK YOU for assistance. Given support, information for resolving my problem and a peace of resting mind .
2 months insurance - easy peasy
I took a 2 months insurance to cover my trip. While I never had to use it (thankfully) so I cannot comment on actual coverage, I can say that the whole process of subscribing and cancelling has been very easy and clear. Insurance terms are clearly listed and simple to understand. Pricing is fair compared to alternatives. I will use Genki again for my next trip!
I used Genki when I was abroad and ran out of cover
I used Genki when I was abroad and realised that my UK cover would not cover me after 30 days abroad.
Great for travellers on long journeys. More expensive but very flexible. Have not had to claim on it so cannot comment
fast friendly helpful
Worst experience. Scammers.
Worst experience I ever had with insurance. I was declined in reimbursement and my contract was closed. Reason is under excuse that my past visits was "too significant".
I have proven strictly with documents that I had Single visits and short term treatment of infections which I shouldn't point out according to questionnaire.
This insurance company is simply scammers. Don't deal with them or your money lost.
Anything you, Genki, might respond here, will be treated as an attempt to scam.
You ignore past medical certificates intentionally.
You ignore dates. You ignore results.

They are a solid company
They are a solid company, and my claims have been approved. Process is normally very easy. They have recently improved the online submission form, which is great!
Covered my knee surgery on travel
They (with DR Walter, of course) paid for my knee surgery ($14k) and continue paying for post surgery checkups. Highly recommended.
Very reliable
I have been using this insurance for a few years (starting January 2023 to be precise), my last one expired, so I subscribe to a new one. For a period of time, they had really convenient Air Doctor app that compensated the spendings right away, but they canceled it. Nonetheless, they’re still very convenient and reliable, I had Covid twice while traveling during past two years, they paid for the medication. I also had a conjunctivitis and a set of rabies vaccination in Thailand, again, all compensated.
