Very poor servce.

Very poor servce.
I ordered a prescription for my cat, which should have been ready within 48 hours. I rang up three days later and was told the prescription wasn't ready and to call the next day. I rang on the fourth day and was told, 'The vet hasn't got round to it yet. Try again tomorrow'. No apology.
This isn't the first time we've had a bad experience with George Vets, Malmesbury. We took our cat in to have her claws clipped. The vet took her into another room, came out and said that our cat struggled too much and would need to be anaesthetised. We said we would leave it for now, and took her to another vets, where a nurse was able to clip her claws in front of us and without difficulty. Our cat is sixteen years old and we have never had a problem having her claws clipped before.
Would not recommend.

YOUNG INEXPERIENCED VETS. charge for nothing

Totally disgusted with their service. I was warned that there all young and inexperienced vets. Worst thing we had to take one of our puppies to an ooh appointment. Understand we had to wait an hour due to an emergency that came in. When we finally got seen. Once we left I had a flat battery . Asked for help when a member of staff turned up who originally said yes to take us home. she went inside and came back and said no. me my partner and daughter and 2 dogs left outside freezing cold . On top of this Im a heart patient that previously had a heart attack. That left us outside freezing until 2.30 am in the morning . And still have the audacity to ask me to pay the bill. Already paid £100 off yet still hounding me for another £175. Stay well clear charge you the earth no experience and no knowledge!

Great vets - don’t believe the negative reviews here

I don’t believe that the negative reviews posted here are from genuine clients. (And if you check their profiles, they all give vitriolic one-star reviews to everything. Are they paid to badmouth random businesses or are they just angry people who need help?) I’ve been using The George for many years now (as have friends of mine) and I have never had anything other than an excellent experience, with all vets and nurses and support staff. I mainly use the Nailsworth practice as that’s the most convenient, but have also had several appointments in Malmesbury for both our dog and cat. Always excellent, professional, compassionate service from all vets and support staff, and the prices are very reasonable. (My cat recently had to have several tooth extractions due to a genetic condition, and I wasn’t charged anything for 3 post-operative check-ups. He’s fine, but they are diligent.) It’s a proudly independent group, not remotely “corporate”. It makes me so angry to read the negative reviews on here. If you want to read genuine customer reviews, check them out on The George’s own websites. Grrrrrr. This makes me question the reliability of TrustPilot in general. Who’s fact-checking here? Elon Musk?!!

Total rip off

Total rip off. "They need to see your pet" just to get flea treatment!!!! More like, so they can charge you a whole lot more than actually needed.

The George Veterinary Group is amazing.

The George Veterinary Group is amazing. I wish I’d moved to them sooner but I had a loyalty to my previous vets that in hindsight I don't think was warranted.

All the vets and nurses I have met at The George truly love animals, understand the owner’s love for their loved ones (I’ve got a beast of a cat but they completely get that I still love him, even if he has a reputation that precedes him), and are understanding of personal situations. We had a beautiful Border Collie with a hemangiosarcoma and he was gone within six weeks of us finding out. The vet that cared for him was with us every horrendous step of the way. When the dreaded time came to say goodbye, our vet was utterly professional, as was the nurse who was with us, and I could see that they felt our pain.

I recently had a personal issue of my own and my cat was due to be seen for a check up but for various reasons I wasn't able to get him there at the time he was meant to be seen. The vet I spoke with was so kind and sympathetic, and I am extremely grateful to him for his understanding. He is also fantastic with my cat.

Yesterday I took my cat in to be seen. He also has a reputation with the Tesco home delivery people after he attached himself to one of their legs, hissing and screeching, clinging on to the man's calf like he was hugging a tree trunk. The vet we saw was truly wonderful with him. We had one little hiss and some gentle growling. It was almost as if he felt he had to make those noises but overall he seemed pretty relaxed which was astonishing. This last visit, the way that the vet and the nurse were with Mike, makes me feel huge relief that there are people out there who are not only amazing at their jobs, but they are willing to go out of their way to help. If the people I have mentioned in this review read this, I think they will know who they are, and I want you all to know that what you have done for Mike, and for myself, means the world. Whilst I'm at it, I mustn't forget to thank the vet I spoke with on Monday. He was also amazing.

These are just a few highlights from my experiences with The George. If you've made it to this point, it may sound strange for me to say that the people who work there love animals. The reason for the comment is that I sometimes wondered why some of the vets at my previous practice worked with animals because at times it felt as if they didn't like them. Everyone I have spoken with or seen at The George, from the people on reception, the people in the back offices, the vet nurses and the vets themselves, I can't thank them enough for everything they’ve done and continue to do for me, for Michael, and for the ones who are sadly no longer with us. I also want to thank them all for their understanding of my situation. It’s like being at the GP the way the GP used to be (treating you holistically), only it’s for you and your pet.

I registered with this practice due to…

I registered with this practice due to a constant issue my cat had been experiencing for a number of years.

This vet quoted extortionate consultation fees plus a small amount of very expensive medication on the last of the two visits.

The main issue here besides the fees is that it is a one way consultation where I provide as much information hoping to get some advice, but no actual advice is given for preventive measures or what might actually be the problem or how to take care of it. Of course this is what makes it appear to be all about the money, as if I was provided with any advice on what might be happening and what can be done to deal with the issue reoccurring, I will not have to make a visit every time the issue occurs which did start to become very regular. I couldn't let my cat continue to suffer digestive issues, so I decided it was time to take action, I started to Google as much information as I could find to help her with this problem, and luckily, I was able to understand what might have been happening and took the correct measures.
I feel that if I was able to investigate what was happening and find a solution without any veterinary training, then this should have been a very easy fix for a vet. But they were happy to see me and my money every time.
In the end the money is not as big an issue as seeing my cat in distress.

Seek other vets

Seek other vets, took our dog here, ended up spending a mini fortune. And they weren’t even able to to tell us what was wrong with her. Hidden costs, it was like they were making the sums up as they went. Terrible

Avoid this corporate cash machine

Attitude and morals of this practice have declined severely in the last 2 years. Corporate parasites have infiltrated the integrity and honesty. All they care about is money, money ,money. Quoted £700 for 1 corn to be dealt with on my dog, I had 2 sorted at a different practice for £140, that's 10 times less. They deliberately sell you expensive drugs that they are sponsored to dispense, if you challenge and asked for a cheaper alternative their whole demeanour changes towards you. I asked for remedyl as a cheaper healthier alternative to Metacam, I got questioned aggressively on how I know about a cheaper better drug that they dont get as much comissiion on, and then I still had to fight to get it prescribed. It's not always about the money but if you care for your pet avoid this vet practice.

Very disappointing service

Very disappointing service. I asked if they could see my cat. They were very unhelpful. In the end she did not make it to the vets and is still very poorly. I'm not happy with the service they provide. They seem to be more interested in the money than the patients.
