GREENFIELD SOUTHERN LTD

What to say. Having visited the show room in Lancing, we arranged for a replacement gas fire.
Having chosen a new fire we contacted the company via email as noticed the old fire was bigger than the new one. We received a return email stating this would not be a problem because the gap behind would be the sane.
We were asked to pay 2 thirds of the cost in advance (almost £800) which we did. We had quite a wait for delivery and fitting but that wasn’t an issue.
Guess what, yesterday they arrived to fit the fire.
The gap which we were assured would not be an issue was too big. Despite having had a gas fire there for over 30 years with no issues we were told the chimney needed sweeping and adjusting and it was suggested we choose an electric fire. The old fire was taken away and we have been left with a piece of plastic covering where the fire once was. It is not sealed at the bottom, allowing draft to come through. Today we have left messages trying to find a solution. We have a family Christmas planned and need this sorted before December.
We have heard nothing.
Finding a chimney sweep at short notice and getting the other work done in a short period of time also looks impossible. Why do these people not come out and look in advance of taking orders, give warning of any potential issues, take so much money in advance and then disappear as if it’s not their problem. If any of this had been explained we could have at least left it until the Summer when we don’t need a fire. Where is the care & willingness to get this resolved?
Are we just being left £800 lighter and a plastic sheet?
We have now been quoted an additional £500 for work to the chimney and for a surround that will allow the fire to fit even though this is their mistake.
We want gas, not electric. We were clear on that when we ordered. The fire provides heat to the room. We cannot find a sweep with any availability before Christmas so it looks as though we will spend the winter without a fire.
We are where we are. I will be sending photos of my nice new fire to the press in the morning and sharing to all but you have a choice. Please use another company.
