Real humans, real traction in 18 days

“I pushed an independent release through Groover on 22 March and within 18 days it had 44+ countries listening, 99 % save rate, 30+ playlists and 6 radio spins. What I like most is that every curator reply feels human—lots of detailed feedback, clear ‘yes/no,’ and several editors followed up off-platform. If you have a properly finished track and want honest ears plus real coverage, this platform delivers

Generic 'feedback' gets approved by Groover Staff.

I went to do one campaign and was baffled by how generic and unhelpful everyone was, from curators to the staff.

Some statistics before jumping into it:
Paid $150
16/50 curators came with generic/nonconstructive feedback
1/50 curators came with a promise to share.

The service is marketed as 'Marketing for your music,' 'Promoting your music,' and 'Attention for your music.' It should be "Get Feedback on Your Music."

And instead of providing actual feedback, it was rejections, which the staff has mentioned is okay. So a 15-word text saying something like, 'Good track, high energy, not my taste' is what you pay for!

That is a rejection. Then the staff shifted and said you actually pay for someone to listen to your music. Again, you can determine in 10 seconds if a song is not yours and reject it, allowing the credits to go to someone who genuinely wants to provide proper feedback and listen to it.

Some of the 'feedback' from different curators was also very similar in its markup, like:

Curator A: Keep exploring your sound, and feel free to send more music anytime; I will be happy to listen.

Curator B: Keep creating and sharing your music, and feel free to send more tracks in the future; I will be happy to listen.

The sign-up and campaign creation process did not mention that you would receive feedback or a listen for your plays, which could cause misunderstandings if the platform is not explained to your customer.

I picked curators one by one, but even stations with the genre name said it's not our genre. I.e., sending a techno track to a techno radio station and then them saying, "We don't play techno!"

The staff team responded with, "I'm puzzled; so many thousands of artists did get it." This is a very dismissive way to approach a problem.

They also seem to keep repeating other services and state that pay-for-play is prohibited, which I am not asking about; I am mentioning the poor communications, clarity of the service, and poor execution of the Groover service, not other services.

I am to receive a partial refund, but they did not credit back the reported poor feedback. I will not be using this service again due to the unsatisfactory customer service.

I was 'helped' by Emma and Dorian.

To the reply:

You are making assumptions, which isn't great to do, someone is stating about issues in your service and asking for a refund because I am unhappy with the quality of the service. That is not the time to assume or be rude or unfriendly, which you have been during the entirety of the support conversation.

I know what pay to play is in other industries I work for like paying for a content creator to play a game in the gaming industry. I did nowhere see that Groover is not this and what the service entailed when signing up, everyone understands that not everyone will share it and that is where I commented your flaws of this service and the generic, copy pasted and unhelpful feedback you receive, I have marked all but 1 submissions I got so far with 1 star, and as you can read 2 examples above this, it's copy pasted and generic by two different creators.

"We cannot refund the answered submissions as the service has been provided and the curators have been paid for providing feedback to you."

Yes you can.
The service hasn't been provided; it's not feedback, and if this seriously is the quality you pursue and want to attack your unhappy customers about, then I really hope everyone sees and reads this so they will see what kind of 'feedback' they'll receive.

Reply from Groover

Hi Bram, this review tends to indicate that you clearly understand and already understood the difference between pay-for-play services, and what we offer with Groover, even from the start. However, your first message addressed to our support team was: "I was under the impression I would only play for people sharing our song. We are now getting feedback, which we haven't asked for, that I think still credits us, while nothing is in place. How does that work?"

We then proceeded to explain that this is not how Groover works. This would be payola/pay-for-play which is contrary to Spotify/radio stations guidelines, curation ethics, and would also reduce to 0 the value of a share. We guarantee that the curators & pros will listen to your music and provide an answer/feedback, Some answers can be more detailed than others for sure, and they act first and foremost as a proof of listening, that the curators have properly considered your track for sharing or not. You did get a promise to share among your results.

Upon your request, we then proceeded to cancel your campaign and refund the credits for the submissions that hadn't received an answer yet (65% of the amount), which we don't usually do and are in no obligation to do once a campaign is sent. We cannot refund the answered submissions as the service has been provided and the curators have been paid for providing feedback to you.

We did mention that over 750,000 artists have used our service since the beginning and understood how it works, also because we show it everywhere on the website. I'm really sorry you were disappointed with how Groover works and the answers you received, and also how we answered on support. We're doing our best here, but the service has been provided by the 16 curators indicated, they were paid for their answers, and we therefore cannot refund these.

Good luck with everything,
Dorian

EDIT/Answer: I'm really not trying to attack you or anything. I don't think that trying to explain our approach, our system and our decision is out of line here, as it can help anyone who reads this make their own assessment, and also provides more explanations about what Groover is, which could help potential readers decide whether it is what they're looking for.

I answered in a neutral and pragmatic tone to your messages, which were also in that vibe that I tried to match. There must have been some miscommunication / misunderstanding about the tone of our messages, I don't think my answer to the review is in any way "rude" or "unfriendly". I want to apologize if that's how they appear.

Groover and their curator are only interested in their own profits

My experience with the Groover platform has, unfortunately, been very negative. At first glance, the service seems professional, but the reality is quite different. Most of the feedback I received was extremely generic and gave the impression that the curators hadn’t even listened properly. It’s often the same phrases and clichéd comments that have no real value for an artist who wants to improve their music or get relevant feedback.

Groover also gives the impression that it provides direct access to high-quality curators and media outlets, but in practice, the caliber of many of them is highly questionable. The curator filter is weak, and a large portion of them come across as untrustworthy or completely irrelevant to the given music style.

However, I see the biggest problem in the fact that the service uses marketing and misleading language that suggests a greater chance of actual promotion than actually exists. Ultimately, it comes across more as a system for collecting fees from musicians than as a serious platform for supporting music.

For me, this has been a very disappointing experience. If you’re looking for quality feedback or real connections in the music industry, Groover is not a good choice in my opinion.

They also encourage and exacerbate discrimination against poor/disadvantaged artists, favor the wealthy, refuse to issue refunds, and violate EU consumer rights—because if I am not satisfied with the quality of service, I have the right to a refund

Used it for 2–3 years

Used it for 2–3 years, and many of my songs were accepted. In the end, though, the playlists are small (100–5,000 followers), and placements are only temporary (1–4 weeks) before you’re removed again. I don’t recommend it — save your money.
SubmitHub is even worse by the way.

Groover is a cheat code to international press

Groover is absolutely amazing. I've been featured in international publications, done interviews. Been added to playlists & currently being broadcast on radio. I've made 26 buisiness relationships through groover. I 100% recommend.

Feedback doesn’t match playlist descriptions

I used Groover twice and invested budget with the expectation of a fair and transparent process.

Unfortunately, my experience was not convincing. The main issue is the inconsistency between curator descriptions and the feedback received. Many playlists present themselves as a strong fit, but then reject tracks with reasons that contradict their own positioning.

When addressing this, the response focused on general explanations rather than the actual issue. No real solution was offered.

Overall, the system lacks transparency and reliability in its current form.

Curator at Groover

I recently became a curator with only 1 playlist on Groover, I did not expect much, but 10 days in I already had more than 45 submissions of very high quality! And the process for a curator is pleasant and easy to work with, support is second to none! BoxingBuddha, Spotify playlist curator.

Groover wasn't worth a dime for me. I found a much better service.

Thankfully I only wasted about 60 bucks for 10 group submissions. I got six lovely rejections for my song Heaven Must be a Ghost Town - that gets me nowhere. I did get put on one playlist, but about the only likes I ever got were from me and the friends that I sent there. Sure, it was exciting getting on my first playlist, but it proved to be virtually worthless, and now, with nobody going there anymore, it just sits near the bottom of the playlist with the same number of plays for days now, which is only 30 - after a month already.

I moved on from them quickly, and my song has 480 streams so far from a slightly underperforming campaign at GPM Music, and another song over there - Drinking You In, now has 8,500 streams in only 3 weeks. I probably couldn't get 85 streams on Groover in 3 years. Granted, I did make a mistake choosing the lists I submitted my country song to on Groover. I saw "country" listed on the curator descriptions and went with it. Some of them had the name of the playlist, and if I would have checked them, I would have noticed that they probably weren't the right fit. But either way, I got duped by it saying country. But do I really want to comb through dozens and dozens of these things looking for one that might be the right fit for me? No.

On top of that, two groups I submitted to on Groover didn't even respond, and one wasn't a group at all, so I should have gotten 6 credits back (at least two per group submission), but only got back four. I've tried at least a dozen times to get those other two back, and all I get is AI chat box bullshit:
We'll connect you to a human - a human isn't available, try again later. Later - a human isn't available. Tomorrow - a human isn't available. Monday - a human isn't available. I don't think there are any humans available ever, and I don't think those two credits will ever come back. Not that they're worth much anyway, because all I'll probably get back is a nice review - "We love your song... but it's just not a fit for our list."

They're not worth my time, energy, or money. I didn't have to search for lists on the other service. I didn't have to do anything, and in three weeks, I've got 9,400 streams for my three songs so far, and went from 35 monthly listeners to over 7000 today - and there's still another week to go, so by the way it's going right now, I should end up at about 14K listeners and 16K streams, and with their deal, I only had to pay for two of the three songs. My big song Drinking You In has now been streamed in 114 countries. I didn't even get close to 114 plays on Groover.

Best part is, there's a human on the other side of my phone - the owner, who I've been in frequent communication with about my songs. I'm about to start a new campaign with GPM for my new song Kissing You Goodbye.

Sure, your results may vary on any service you try, but I wouldn't hold my breath that you'd do very well on here. I gave them every chance. I asked for those credits back at least a dozen times and got nowhere, so I finally came here, because maybe somebody will pay attention to their crappy service and results. Hopefully, it'll be you.

If you want your song or music career to take off, I can't imagine this would be the right place. Do your research like I did. I spent about the same amount over there for one song, plus that same amount for a second song, and I got a third song free, which now has 430 additional streams.

The Groover curators were all very nice, but do you want a bunch of lovely compliments, or streams, listeners, saves, playlist adds, and smiles? I'll gladly take the latter batch.

Best wishes on your decision and your musical journey.

Reply from Groover

Hi Fred, can you please reach out to support (a) groover . co regarding the credits you're mentioning you didn't get back? I'm not sure what you mean exactly by them not being "a group".

Be careful about GPM, their operations are classic "pay for play", their playlists aren't safe. Services that guarantee you playlist placements and streams are always built on bot farms and sketchy operations, they're also forbidden by Spotify in a very clear way. You might get placed on a seemingly cool playlist, see streams grow, then see the streams getting removed from Spotify and your music will be penalized for a while. You track could even get taken down.

We indeed can't guarantee any sort of streaming numbers on Groover, but we vet our playlists thoroughly to make sure they're legit, and their curation is independent since they're free to accept or reject a track, which is accepted by streaming platforms.

I enjoyed my experience with it.

I enjoyed my experience during my campaign with Groover! It’s very clear cut, easy to use, and a direct contact with Playlist Curators. Whether they share your music to the playlist or not, they always respond with feedback letting you know why or why they didn’t share your track. My song was shared to
4 different playlists! I submitted to 10. So that was a pretty good success rate.
