GREAT Software - Horrible Business Practices

Great Software - Poor Business Practices

The software is great. It is challenging to setup, and not as intuitive as its competitors, but, once setup, it is far more robust than competitors and at a competitive price.

The downside is their business practices. I was promised one thing, paid, then there was a bait and switch, with aspects that the software was useless to me without withheld for additional money. It was made VERY CLEAR that these options were included, with no mention, at any point, that there was any possibility they would not be included. It was not until I was 75% done with the setup that I realized that the one option we needed most was behind withheld.

Then, upon contacting them, the customer service is not at all appropriate for a business. Businesses are understaffed in this economy, and they likely have an inexperienced person in the roll, but, it was still bad even giving that benefit of the doubt.

They then took no responsibility. I even offered to meet them half way and pay $100 more despite the mistake being 100% (and calling it a mistake is generous to them) their fault, and they refused. In fact, despite the bait and switch, they took it upon themselves to volunteer that if we cancelled the software, they would not refund.

I am stuck with the software, with the event I am using this for 3 months away, too late to switch now. But, I want to leave this review where I can to warn others.

If you're a small organization or a non profit, avoid Handbid. It is too risky, and you don't know if/when they will withhold vital parts of their software and demand more money. And, any mistake on their end will be blamed on you. If budget is no concern, and you have a large team with plenty of time before your event to deal with any hassles or false promises, then, this software might be worth it for you, because in the end the software is great.
