I thought my weight would be fine.
Purchased my Simplicity 950+ 6/2019. 10/5/2020: Unit started making weird, expensive sounding noises. Contacted Ability Center in Springfield, OR. Technician ordered parts. Unit inoperative. 10/13/2020: Hip replacement surgery. 10/26/2020: New parts installed. More weird noises. Technician said I was likely overloading the unit due to my weight which causes compression of the internal gears. The unit is rated for 265 lbs. Fully clothed, I weigh 245 which is why I thought the Handicare would work fine. He said I most likely needed a more robust stairlift which means a Handicare with the moving track would not work. I was stunned because I paid over $6,000 for the unit originally and the labor bill (still under parts warranty) for this fix was another $1,000 dollars.
