This supposedly renowned psychiatrist…

This supposedly renowned psychiatrist managed to confuse ADHD and rejection sensitivity and emotional dysphoria for narcissism. Amateur to say the least. If a psychiatrist hasn't heard of RSD they know very little about ADHD. They also started me on amphetamines for my ADHD 'tendencies' (he refused to just give me the ADHD label) and didn't do any ecg or cardiovascular examination as recommended by NICE. They weren't empathetic and I could definitely sense some prejudice (I note a previous reviewer saying this too). I have since gotten diagnosed elsewhere. My new psychiatrist understandably laughed when I told them he confused my symptoms for narcissism. I'm still upset by it due to my RSD. I only got half my money back, so spent hundreds of pounds to be insulted.

I'm a medical doctor and I actually had a patient with ADHD diagnosed at Harley St and started on amphetamines recently. He presented with a dangerous arrhythmia and features of a stroke. They had polycythemia meaning they had a high blood count and were prone to blood clots. The amphetamine treatment triggered an arrythmia that causes blood clots in healthy people, so for him, this was very serious amount of clot in his brain due to the viscosity of his blood. Luckily I treated him and reversed his stroke features and he had no permenenant neurological disability. He didn't have an ECG or any cardiovascular investigation either. He did give a history of years of intermittent palpitations that suddenly worsened after starting ADHD treatment. Any good psychiatrist would at very least enquire about medical issues if they were so irresponsible as to not investigate as per NICE recommendations for safety. And they would warn the patient about things to look out for! Harley st clearly rely on their reputation rather than good clinicians.

I rarely leave bad reviews and it feels in bad taste but I've been holding myself back for months now. I did complain formally but got a weak apology and a half refund for our difference of opinions. Unfortunately due to my RSD it keeps bugging me and I know speaking out about this experience that got me down for months is the only way for me to find closure. I'll add it to my ever growing list of RSD episodes that affect me and worsen my social anxieties and behaviours.

At the end of the day, the UK is years if not decades behind the US in ADHD and i dont think anyone seeking a private diagnosis should have high expectations whatsoever - my impression is that the specialty of ADHD in the private sector is made up of self proclaimed experts that have minimal work and experience in the field.

RSD is all anyone talks about in support groups online and in person, and is a very common presenting complaint... being upset with people who wrong you and having conflict and upset around these conflicts or injustices is the biggest difficultly with ADHD. Any decent psychiatrist should know this, and appreciate the impact of their words on their patients. Thats if they make the right diagnosis in the first place! What's more, a decent psychiatrist should know that narcissists don't complain of extreme psychological distress, pain, and disproportionate guilt from upsetting others... quite the opposite of narcisism! But dare I argue with this renowned Harley St psychiatrist!

Thank you for having contacted us following your consultation with your dissatisfaction of the outcome of your consultation, and for sharing your feedback here.

It was felt that the right level of diagnostic clarity was not achieved at the time of consultation, which is normally associated with ADHD. We are sorry you felt the diagnosis given to you was not accurate.

In view of your expressed dissatisfaction, we were pleased you accepted a 50% refund of the fee.

Kind regards.

Dr. Galya Smith - excellent source of support!

I have been working with Galya on and off for over 3 years. Because of her advice, support and encouragement, I was able to address complicated family issues before starting my own family. Her empathetic, non-judgmental and integrative approach has also helped me become more self-aware and less self-critical. I always leave our sessions feeling stronger, calmer and more mindful.

Galya has given me the right tools to navigate parenthood and regulate my emotions, so I can (try to!) be the best version of myself for my family - and me.

I would highly recommend Galya to others.

Poor first experience.

Three years ago. I started
therapy with Yevgeniy Starodupcev. I dont want my opinion to reflect on whole Harley Street Practice because they may have better therapists but I did not have contact with others.
It was my first experience of therapy ever so that time I was not fully aware how things should work.
We had a serious problem between me and my partner and I had impression during our sessions that he sympathise with my partner and he feels I am the main problem. There was no attempt from his side to create any rapport with me. I felt all the time angry because it looked liked he did not want to listen at all. After four sessions, Mr Starodupcev said we should take a break because there is more to work on and he will come back to us after several weeks.
It was quite turbulent time so I forgot about therapy for couple of weeks when I remembered that Mr Starodupcev never got back to us aa promised, I tried to contact Harley Street and there was no reply at all.
So basically he just got rid of us in this way.

After this experience, I signed up with charity counselling and they were shocked that reputable therapist could have treated us this way. I dont recommend this therapist. No wonder he advertised the lowest hourly rate.

Dr Maria Vella

I started working with Dr Maria Vella following a very challenging few years, which pushed my life off course in many respects.

What began as therapy to deal with a specific bereavement, evolved into a deep understanding of loss, relationships, boundaries and, most importantly, of myself.

I would highly recommend Maria to anyone who is considering therapy. She is compassionate, insightful and straight-talking.

I am now in a much more positive place and I have been able to move on from a number of issues that had been holding me back. I have improved emotional stability and confidence to tackle the future, thanks to Maria's support.

Couple Therapy with Dr Maria Vella

Maria was extremely helpful in getting me and my partner through a heavy the break-up after a long-term relationship. Having weekly session with her made it possible for me to get my life back on track by processing what went wrong over the course of the relationship while establishing a mutual understanding for each other. All her sessions a very well prepared and it was very impressive how quickly she detected the sources / problems of the relationship. I highly recommend Maria if you are in a similar position.
