Invaluable dispute resolution support

The engagement, support, and consultation throughout has been stellar from Jo Wilson. With her supporting me, I was able to navigate a complex client payment related issue. She struck the right balance of providing guidance/direction whilst instilling confidence throughout the process, enabling me to make the right decision at every stage.

Perfect for a new business

I was setting up a new business, and wanted the support of a legal team in case there were areas I needed to use them for as the time went on in year one, so signing up for the Enabel plan was perfect.

It gave me peace of mind that I could call on legal help if required and that by paying a monthly fee I already had some credit for any work that I needed backed up with the knowledge that I would get a lawyer at a great rate for all other work.

It worked out that I needed to use their support on a few occasions. Everyone was extremely helpful, professional, and explained things in a way that I could understand. The turnaround time for work was also really good.
I can't recommend them enough.

Poor work

We’ve been a loyal client of Harper James since 2020, but the decline in service and quality has been staggering and unacceptable.

The employment contract work they delivered was full of basic spelling and grammar errors, inconsistent language (e.g. switching between “you” and “the employee”), and was completely disjointed. There was no consideration of how our employees would view the contract changes and advice was unclear. The quality was so poor we had to scrap it entirely and rewrite the contracts ourselves. We made it very clear this work was unusable and that we had lost confidence in their ability to deliver. Their insistence on billing for this unacceptable output shows an alarming lack of accountability or concern for client care. They insist had we paid them even more to finalise contracts that they would've done a good job, but the drafts were so poor there was no way we could trust them to do further work! I have never seen such a lack of concern for clients from any type of client services business.

Whilst this was breaking point for us, it was not the first issue. We spent thousands with Harper James for ongoing advice on a sensitive employee issue. Over several weeks, the advice we received was consistently vague, grey, and confusing, so much so that our team couldn’t act on it. In contrast, we found a clear, simple resolution within five minutes of speaking to our own insurance provider. Frankly, we’ve had better results using ChatGPT than Harper James.

They are slow to respond, taking weeks to reply to emails and on occassion not having resource available for us despite us being on an annual contract with a monthly subscription fee. We've flagged slow communication, poor value, and a general lack of care, and it’s clear those concerns fall on deaf ears.

Update: Adam from the team kindly called me to discuss and resolution after my concerns. We reached an amicable agreement and I felt he had a clearer understanding of our complaints. I've amended the review to 2-stars to reflect this.

Outstanding Legal Support

I had a dispute with a client that had reached a point where it seemed like I would never see any of my money without escalating things further. That's when I turned to Harper James, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the support I received.

My journey began with Nick, who was a fantastic business development manager. He was eager to help, and what I truly appreciated was that there were no hard sales tactics—just genuine support. From there, I was introduced to Mark, and he has been absolutely outstanding.

Mark was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but he also made the entire process clear and as stress-free as possible. I never had to chase him for replies to emails, and he was always responsive and proactive in chasing things up with my client. This played a huge role in speeding up the negotiation process.

I always felt like Mark had my back, acting in my best interest at all times. Thanks to his expertise, I was able to recover money I thought I'd never see again, all without having to go to court. And on top of all that, he kept my costs down, which I really appreciated.

The employment team are always readily available and responsive and have worked with us on some very challenging matters through to conclusion.
