Module failed in under 6 months — company refused to warranty the replacement module

I bought this machine expecting it to last for years, especially given the price. Instead, the most critical component—the main control module (the “brain” of the machine)—failed in under six months with only moderate use.

Here’s what should worry any potential buyer: after replacing the failed module, the company refused to provide a full one-year warranty on the replacement module. Their justification was, “component defects typically surface within the first few cycles.” That argument makes no sense in my case, because this defect did not show up in the first few cycles—it surfaced after five months of normal operation and caused a total system failure. This wasn’t an “out of the box” problem. It was a delayed internal failure—the exact kind that can take months to reveal itself.

An electrician who replaced the part explained that failures like this can originate during factory assembly and remain hidden until enough run-time accumulates to trigger a breakdown. That fits what happened here perfectly. And it highlights an even bigger issue: if we had used the machine less, the failure could have appeared after the warranty period—leaving us stuck paying hundreds of dollars for a repair that should never happen this early.

Customer service made it worse. They asked us to install multiple “patches,” open the unit, remove parts (which I refused), and take internal photos—just so they could figure out which version of their own product we had, something they should have been able to confirm immediately from their own records. For an expensive machine, this was completely unacceptable.

It took nearly a month of back-and-forth and multiple phone calls to resolve, while I was left with a non-working unit.

Bottom line: a key module failed in months, and the company’s response was to avoid standing behind the replacement module using an illogical explanation. I would not buy this product again, and I would caution anyone considering this purchase: the most important part can fail early—and the company may refuse to properly warranty the replacement.

What a great way to save food!

Received the freeze drier in a timely manner. I needed support and received phone support quickly and fixed the problem over the phone. Tech support was really nice and helpful. These freeze driers are heavy so be prepared to have help to lift it.

Harvest Right Large 6 Tray Black Freeze Dryer

Purchased a couple of weeks ago and was impressed right from the start. Shipping was fast, and the machine plus all accessories arrived in excellent condition. I assembled everything immediately and ran a test batch of bread. The vacuum wouldn’t turn on, so I contacted Customer Support and was connected with Caleb.
Caleb walked me through a thorough troubleshooting process and shared excellent tips along the way. He was patient, understanding, knowledgeable, and genuinely pleasant to work with. The issue turned out to be a wire to the vacuum pump that had loosened during shipping. Once reconnected, the machine performed perfectly.
After completing the test batch, I moved on to a full load: chicken gizzards, beef liver, beef kidneys for my dog, plus a tray of cilantro for myself. The results were outstanding. I was impressed by how evenly everything dried, especially considering the wide range of textures and thicknesses.
Highly recommended product. The machine performs exceptionally well, and the customer support experience was top‑notch.

We love our new freeze dryer!!

We love our new freeze dryer!!! We are able to freeze dry all of our leftovers so nothing goes to waste. They last 25 years before going bad so our leftovers=survival food! I think we save a ton of money in the long run. We have freeze dried so many things because there's very little that you can't freeze dry!

I have had a horrible experience with…

I have had a horrible experience with this company so far and I haven't even used the machine yet! Mine came without the manual, so I simply went on the FB support page and asked if it was supposed to come with one. They BANNED me from the page for asking that question. That is insane! Then when I contacted the company, I got a person who barely spoke English who told me she had to review it with her supervisor to see if I could get a new manual sent out. The next day I got a text saying "as a one-time courtesy" they were sending a new one out.....excuse me? I spent $3000 on their machine, they didn't send a manual with it and now they are doing me a favor by sending me one?? If I had the opportunity to go back in time, I wouldn't purchase this. I can't believe how badly I have been treated for saying I wanted a manual to come with my $3000 purchase!

Freeze Dryer Review

We've had some success freeze drying food. We've had the machine for about 3 years now. When the machine works, it is great. Recently, however, we have been struggling to get the machine to finish a batch. With our recent batches, we have had what feels like a 25% success rate. We have tried to go through all of the troubleshooting possible. We recently submitted a ticket. The support provided was fantastic, but we are still trying to resolve whatever the problem is. Needless to say, I have been very frustrated recently.

Best Purchase in Years!

This has been the best purchase I have made in recent years. I can make healthy fun snacks for the grandkids, and save on wasted food by freeze drying leftovers making shelf stable meals for ready storage, and/or emergency preparedness.

Yesterday, the machine stopped performing normally after about 6 months of not using it. I began to panic, but a call to customer support, she I quick software update, and I am back up and running as good as ever.

Great Product, Exceptional Support

Still going strong!

We have the Harvest Right medium freeze dryer with the premier pump and have been using it consistently for about three years. I also just setup another medium at our place to run for a neighbor.
I love our machine! Most of the issues I have had have been user error, and not very noteworthy. Recently I had an issue with the pump leaking after it was taken apart for cleaning, though it seems to be a gasket issue.
In the few times I have called their customer support, including recently, they were helpfu, polite, and prompt. Even though my machine is out of warranty (around three years old), I was not charged for the support time.
I have freeze dried so much food! It has been great for our excess chicken eggs and garden produce. I was also able to do enough candy to sell at markets to be able to pay off the machine.

I would highly recommend the Harvest Right machines!

I love my Harvest Right freezer drier

I love my Harvest Right freezer drier. It allows me to secure food for my family for decades not years incase of economic hardship or supply shortages. Running candy batches for the grandkids is an added bonus. I know it's a big purchase but I have zero regret! Customer service is excellent too.

What an absolute workhorse

What an absolute workhorse. In addition to the units strength, the customer service and troubleshooting teams are amazing. I've had my unit for a few years and as anything man made has errors, but the resolution of tech support brings a solution every time. If you're willing to make the investment, invest your hard earned money here.

NOT HAPPY!

***UPDATE***Just got off the phone with #harvestright (HR). In March of 2025, I purchased the WiFi adapter for $75.00. This would allow me to monitor the machine from my mobile app AND allow HR to see "logs" w/o me having to send via email. Turns out it's not working and they don't know why. I confirmed that this machine has a 1 year warranty and that both the drain valve and vacuum hose HAD to be replaced, 9 months after the warranty expired--costing me $180.00. The $1700 oil-free pump malfunctioned in Sept of 2025 and had to be replaced--$400 for refurbished premier pump. In the lifetime of this machine, the mT have only dropped below 500 once and today I was told that mT should be less than 500. Since 12-24, multiple emails to tech support, ALL regarding vacuum issues, with "logs" attached, and not one technical support person ever addressed this issue, until now.
Have you added up all the money I have spent since my initial investment of >$4000?
***WARNING--LONG POST***
In May of 2023, I purchased a medium Harvest Right freeze dryer (FD) and paid $1700 extra for the oil-free pump. #harvestright
In 2024 I had to replace the cheap and malfunctioning vacuum hose, along with the malfunctioning drain valve. In Sept of 2025, my $1700 oil-free pump bit the dust and Harvest Right suggested a refurbished premier pump, that came with a 1 yr warranty--so I was told.
Less than 4 months later (just last week) I was getting error messages "unable to achieve vacuum". Several attempts to resolve the issue myself, I reached out to #harvestright for technical support. Of course it had to fall on a Saturday and all I could get was A.I. Monday morning I called and was able to speak with a human, who sent me 2 videos on "maintaining" the pump and scheduled an in person tech support for the following day, Tuesday. The video instructed me to clean the demister and allow at least 48 hrs for it to dry before reinstalling it-- MEANING--it wouldn't be ready until Wednesday to reinstall.
50 minutes before the "scheduled" tech support phone call, I received another email, this time with 2 more You-Tube links to watch, regarding taking the side and top off the FD--prior to the phone call. Never once asked how "pump maintenance" went, or what I discovered during that process. I informed her that there was no way I could watch the 2 videos AND remove the top and side, without help, and definitely not before the scheduled phone call.
Now I get a phone call from Bryant who doesn't seem to be hearing anything I am saying and is insisting it is a FD issue and not a pump issue. At this point, I had already purchased a new demister and was waiting for it's arrival. Bryant never asked about the pump, again, because as he stated "he was convinced it was not the pump." I am left to assume that all the work I did on the pump was now a waste of time.
Saturday the new demister arrived and I was able to get help taking the "under warranty" pump apart and cleaning it. I ran, what now would be my 5th vacuum test. mT dropped to 901 and never went lower; however, I decided to do a run anyway of fruit that I had tried to do the weekend prior. I started the run on Monday (2/9) afternoon and by 0700 hrs this morning, mT was 536 and she was already into "extra dry time".
My only question at this juncture is why did I not get to <600 mT during the vacuum test and yet, was able to get there with food in it???
Here's what I want to say to #harvestright--LISTEN to your customer! Know your customer! Get behind your product; identify the ongoing issues and FIX them! Stop treating us like idiots! Provide COMPLETE, timely and accurate information.
I bought the WiFi adapter in 2025 (from Harvest Right) that allows my FD to be connected to the internet. They could have seen the logs without me having to download them and sending them via email. No one ever said a word about that. My account and machine are registered with them. I have jumped thru all their hoops and they have thousands of my dollars. Why do I have to beg for help and answers?

I just got my machine and I’m super excited to start testing and playing around with it. I did one run and the machine had an error vacuum issue. I called support and they were able to help troubleshoot, I figure out it was probably the way I positioned the cord. Helpful support team.
