I want my money back !

Update - Haunted Rooms / Breaks ceased in May 2024 & all bookings cancelled. Apparently they would be contacting clients about the cancellations. However, as a client with a voucher on a number of event waiting lists, I’ve heard nothing !

We were booked onto an East Drive event in February but were advised it would be filmed by the BBC and given the option to choose another date in the year - we were sent a non-expiring voucher. All events on their website are showing as Sold Out & despite being on the waiting lists, no spaces have become available. I've tried emailing / messaging through FB to find out about 2025 events or a refund but nobody has been in touch. There is a number on their website that just says "the user you are trying to reach is unavailable".

This so called company is a waste of space

DONT GIVE ANY MONEY TO THIS COMPANY.
This company is quite possibly a scam, they've been reported to Trading Standards and Consumer Advice. We bought tickets for Bannockburn House in Feb this year. We went and it was an absolute shambles. We complained and were offered a private ghost hunt at Closeburn Castle on 14/9/24. Not heard from them by August so had to email Closeburn directly who told me they had cancelled their contract with them months ago and good luck trying to get in touch with them! So finally got to them through Facebook Messenger and they confirmed James had arranged the private tour but James no longer worked for the company. They said no refunds from Feb but would try to talk to James. Not sure how that would have helped but we were offered a credit note. I put it to them that their company was bust and what good would a credit note do and they have not got back to me hence taking this further. Please God no one do any business with this place, it's a total scam!! If Haunted Rooms would like to respond, please do as I have all the emails and correspondence confirming everything I've written.
Update 28/9/24- after asking for a refund via Facebook Messenger as this was the only place they responded to me, then then blocked me. They've blocked me from Instagram also and not responding to emails. They've also blocked every other member of the group who has got in touch with them (blocked without replying). I really do believe that this company is a total scam and basically take your money without providing the service advertised.

GHOSTED BY A THIEVING COMPANY.

My friend booked an event for Borwick Hall with this company back in March and paid a £240 deposit. Haunted Rooms managed emailing in July to cancel the ghost tour, stating it was due to lack of staff and that a refund would be issued within 10 working days. To date, they have still not refunded the deposit and are apparently incapable of corresponding when it comes to customer service in regards to issuing refunds! In the end, the bank has had to intervene. This company is poorly run by two completely incompetent and useless so-called 'directors'. Do not waste your money or time on this abysmal business.

I’ve been hosting tours for them for some of their southern locations. It was going well up until the company ghosted me and never paid me for my events I ran. They didn’t reimburse me either for travel or the snacks I provided for the events. I really wouldn’t recommend working with this company, nor going on their tours.

Avoid at all costs

We purchased ghost hunt tickets for Jedburgh Castle and had to purchase accommodation alongside this as it was far from where we lived. We got an email 2 days prior to the event taking place stating that the event had been cancelled to to staff sickness. In their email they gave 3 options, to swap to another event on their website, credit towards HR or a refund. We really wanted to go to this event at some point so looked at swapping days and every single event it’s sold out. So now we can’t even swap to a different ghost hunt if we wanted. We have asked for a refund instead and no reply a week later even after sending messages by email and online platforms. We are out of pocket the accommodation and now the event tickets. Steer clear of Haunted Rooms and use a more reputable group online.

Shady company

Went to a paranormal tour back in April at the Bellamy Mansion. Everything was fine, but I was astonished to see this company hires workers who actively "get high" on the job. I believe her name was Tiffany. Extremely disappointed as she was all I could smell. (I have asthma and could not be in a room with her!!!)

I don’t usually write negative reviews

I don’t usually write negative reviews, as I understand how damaging they can be. However, I booked an experience back in January for a group of eight for my sister’s hen do in June, and just three days before the event, I received an email informing me that it had been cancelled. This was extremely frustrating considering the effort it took to plan and coordinate everything, including transportation and restaurant reservations.

Because of the late cancellation, I had to scramble to find an alternative event for our group on very short notice. Fortunately, another company was able to accommodate us.

When I emailed Haunted rooms, I received minimal, half-hearted apologies, and they didn’t address my question about alternative events or offer any assistance with our situation. Moreover, when I called the venue itself, they mentioned that the cancellation with them had occurred days earlier, meaning the notification could have been sent out sooner. This lack of communication and consideration is highly disappointing.

While they were quick to process the refund, it will naturally take time for the funds to clear, which has caused financial stress for some members of our group as we had to rebook an alternative event immediately.

Given the overall experience, I am very disappointed and won’t be rebooking with this company.

Incredibly disappointing and amateurish

Myself and my boyfriend went to a ghost hunt at Llanchiarch Fawr with this company in November and I can safely say I cannot recommend them in any way. I went in with an open mind and took on board what the hosts said about you get back what you put into the night. I joined in with using the equipment and asking questions, both to the hosts and the spirits but in the end I was frankly insulted with the experience for the extortionate price they charge (£50 pp)

It turned out to be the same exact thing in each room, with hosts who knew very little about the history of supposedly one of their favourite venues and even some downright lies. One host on the first walk around the house stated she saw a spirit in the corridor and waved, but only 5 mins later during the group seance to say that she hoped to see something in the venue for the first time since she was 7. So much of the host's interactions consisted of saying things like "that meter is really active" or "I've just felt a draft go past me" and that was it. I was also incredibly disappointed and angry when we spent nearly an hour sitting in the same room with an app linked up to a Bluetooth speaker which played hushed whispers and the occasional decipherable word which was apparently the ghosts communicating with us. The hosting was one lady saying "did that sound like XX to you?" and other random interjections. She had previously stated that she'd seen someone in the next room but didn't make a move to it until I suggested maybe we could go in there to see if we could pick up any stronger readings. The last two hosts were incredibly uncharismatic, repeatedly just asking the spirits to interact with the EMF reader. They also tried to pass off a very clear "why are you here?" as a spirit speaking through through a device despite there being a beep beforehand and the voice being the generic AI voiceover that is doing the rounds on Tiktok, Facebook etc. The best part was the 10 mins at the end that they allowed us to wander around with their EMF meters.

The other main "tools" consisted of light up cat balls...

Overall, for an evening that I had been looking forward to for a quite a while turned out to be an incredibly expensive waste of time. As I said, I went in with an open mind and not expecting to witness anything. I had, however, expected a more fun, interactive and enjoyable experience investigating one of the most haunted houses in Wales. Instead I received an amateur and boring few hours that I found insulting for the price... complete with incredibly cheap off-brand snacks.

I plan to contact Llanchiarch Fawr and recommending that they find a much better company that respects the history of the venue

Hi Emily, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm very sorry you had a less than satisfactory experience at one of our events. Unfortunately, due to the length of time between the event and your review, it isn't easy to get the specifics regarding your particular evening, and it's likely the team in question are no longer with us.

Thank you again for sharing your experience, and I wish you the best of luck with your future ghost hunting endeavours.

I attended this event with high hopes…

I attended this event with high hopes and was severely looking forward to the evening, but unfortunately, I left slightly disappointed.
My first impression was that of concern, as one of the guides was dressed as Dracula, and wearing a cape, I understand this was probably due to the place we were investigated, and was used to assist in triggering some activity, I just thought it was not going to be taken seriously at this point.

During the briefing, it was advised there was a K2 EMF detector, and Cat Balls for the investigation, both of which are commonly used in Ghost Investigations.
However, the website promised much more, including a Spirit Box, and equipment for the Estes Method.

Once the vigils started, we started with the Ouija Board, and alarms were raised instantly.
The guide was unsure how to use the device, indicating that "I think you open the board by doing this, and I think you close it by doing this".
This concerned me, as the board is not a toy, and must be taken seriously at all times, and if you are unsure how to use the equipment fully, it should not be used at all.
A few of the guests used the board nonetheless and looked to be getting responses.
After taking a closer look, it was clear to see one of the guests pushing the glass around the board, the guide did not use the board.

I also noticed that the guide was using a free app on his phone, these apps are not always accurate, and can be very easy manipulated or coded to give an impression of activity when there is none.
I believe the correct equipment should be on hand at all times.

After this, we moved onto another room, this room had two heads of accused murderers.
This is where things started to go much further south.
The guide was shouting insults at the heads, and singing songs to them, and trying to aggravate, even putting on a fake accent.
I found this disrespectful to the spirits, and although there were accused, this could always provoke an unintended reaction, I felt like it was not being taken seriously.

After the break, we headed down to the cells, and this, unfortunately, is where I was left most disappointed.
The Tipping Table was used in the cells.
Whilst the Activity on the Tipping Table started quite calm, it soon took a turn when the table was tilting and spinning around the room, and it was obviously by the way the guides hands were placed on the table it was him doing this.
Pushing very hard on the table, to the point where I could see one of the legs of the table bending and looking as if it was about to snap.
This went on for around 30 minutes, all whilst the guide was trying to sing a song to the spirit and shouting and provoking.
If the activity we got on the tipping table was real, and the spirit had as much strength as the guide was making out, provoking was definitely the wrong choice here.

After this, we were allowed to explore on our own for a while.
I was looking forward to this as it would give me a chance to try and gather my own evidence to try and turn the evening into a positive.
Now, whilst I did manage to gather some of my own evidence, it was short lived as whatever room me and my group of guests went into, the guide followed us with the table.
Every single time we moved rooms, he entered around a minute later, continuing the table tipping method with it spinning around.

It was very hard to gather any evidence and ask the spirit any questions, as wherever we went, the guide was shouting at the top of his lungs at the spirit.

Don't bother!

Was at the event last night at Belgrave Hall, Leicester and wish I'd not bothered. Such a shame as myself and my group were really up for it. It was poorly organised and lead (our leaders repeatedly told us they were new to it and apologised for their ineptitude). They couldn't work their phones/equipment and we spent a lot of time waiting for them to get to grips with what they should be doing. A few times, members of our group actually took control, as it was clear they hadn't planned what to do. They hadn't researched the Hall (giving wrong information about when the Hall was built) and members of the group actually corrected and filled them in with their own research. The breaks were long (whilst the people leading it went out to vape/smoke) and at one point we were all sat waiting whilst they tried to get their friends earphones working. It was actually laughable and when they started to rock the table for table tipping, we were out. Complete joke and waste of money-don't waste your time with it. Most people left before 2am which shows the group were not engaged. It was also a very large group - they'd done well out of us too making just under 2.5k!!

Not a great experience

Have spent evenings with other companies offering this activity and had a great time but my experience at hardwick castle was not great the guy taking our team had as much personality as a wet fish the team failed to whip up any atmosphere or excitement and one of the girls in our group actually took over at one point I’ve been on a few of these and 9 times out of ten there is very little activity which is fine as it’s about the experience as a whole but the guys taking this event for me lacked any interest in it themselves ! By the end of the evening most of our team had slipped away out of boredom

Hi Deborah, I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a great experience at your event. Hardwick Castle isn't one of our locations, so I'm not sure if you're getting the location mixed up or the team. Our team members all love what they do, as they do it mainly as a hobby, it's not a job for them. Thank you for leaving a review anyway, and I wish you the best of luck with your future ghost hunting endeavours.

Disappointingly amature

To begin the instruction email had a different time than the website. So may people arrived 'early'.
The meeting place was not easily identifiable so many people were circling the whole hall to work out how to get in. We were left standing outside for a long time in the cold.
Once we got in, my name wasn't on the list, although I booked 6 months ago and have had several confirmation emails.
Although I must say they did rectify this quicky.

It took a while to get going, there were several really long breaks and it finished early. They didn't cater for intolerances.

It just felt very amateur, with not enough structure and guidance.
In the many seances were left to do a lot of the 'calling out' ourselves as it was 'our evening', but it was quite awkward with people not really knowing what to do, felt like a bit of a cop out.

There was no equipment for us to use except cat balls and no psychic medium as advertised.
Not a lot of info was given about the location and previous haunting. Also there was no mention about it being Halloween and at midnight 'the witching hour' we were sat in the hall having another long break.

I was pretty disappointed tbh, I have been to other hunts with other companies and it didn't live up to them I'm afraid. Not worth what we paid.

The positive was that the staff were very nice.

Lame…

It was our third experience of this kind. Nothing ever happens but at least it’s relatively entertaining around Halloween time. This time we actually left 2 hours before it finished, as it was that lame and boring. Refreshments offered were tea, coffee, squash and cheap biscuits, equipment consisted of cat toys, torch and some emf readers, and the “leader” of our little group was clearly improvising and sounded bored by her own voice. Great shame, as this kind of experience, if properly prepared and delivered, can be interesting, as we have seen in the past on more than one occasion. This one was simply exhausting and offensive, huge waste of time and money. Don’t bother.

Hi Anna, thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry you weren't impressed with how the night went. As with all real paranormal investigations, we cannot guarantee paranormal activity. Unfortunately, with TV shows these days, people expect constant activity as soon as they walk into a location. Our team make a great effort to involve everyone and try to keep the activity up, and we find that the willingness of our guests to interact and take part can really help stir up activity. If people aren't really involved, then it can negatively impact their experience of their evening. I have spoken with the team, and they did say you were late to the event, having arrived at approx 8:50pm, so you missed our briefing and introductions, which could explain why you were as our team described, a little withdrawn.
