Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 44 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complained about extremely poor communication, stating that recruiters constantly ignored emails, failed to provide interview updates, and ghosted applicants entirely after initial registration. People also mentioned unhelpful and unprofessional staff who seemed focused entirely on making a commission rather than genuinely supporting job seekers through the process. Some reviewers were happy with helpful staff members who provided excellent guidance and patience during their job searches. Consumers noted that these attentive representatives went above and beyond to prepare them for upcoming interviews and answer questions clearly and professionally.

Unfulfilled Promises and Lack of Communication

I have had a consistently disappointing experience with Hays Recruitment. Despite the company listing numerous roles that matched my qualifications, my attempts to engage have been largely unacknowledged. I submitted my CV on three separate occasions and followed up with phone calls twice, only to encounter a lack of substantive follow-through.

On the rare occasion I did make contact with a representative, I received assurances of callbacks that never materialised. This pattern has left me feeling disregarded and has been a discouraging barrier to progressing in my job search. It seems there might be a focus on candidates with whom they have preexisting relationships, which has made it particularly challenging for new applicants like myself to receive fair consideration.

For a company that prides itself on professional recruitment, the communication and reliability in handling potential candidates need significant improvement.

Not a good experience

I personally did not have a good experience, when you spend time applying online, sometimes it is good to speak to an actual human being to discuss the vacancy position. I had a conversation with Vicky Thoma and her attitude was so surprising, it was as if i was bothering her and she spoke to me in such a condensing manner when I was asking questions. Not a very nice welcome to the company and I didn't feel comfortable being on the call after that, job searching causes so much anxiety already. I've never had luck with interviews with Hays anyway so I'm happy to never apply through them again.

Unprofessional and Deceptive Staff

On Monday June 10th 2024 I contacted a particular member of staff who looks after the South Coast, public sector. I sent my CV and a headed letter introducing myself and I was contacted and told to take a look at the job description for a potential position and respond if I was interested. I did that and have never heard from the consultant despite trying to make contact since then. I've decided to leave but it has inspired me to contact the Employment Minister and highlight the tireless efforts of those of us looking for work and how we are treated by these unprofessional Tom, Dick and Harry's who sit comfortably behind a desk thinking they can play games with the lives of people who are desperately seeking employment. I have turned down work with their Preston branch as it made no sense to do 3 months worth of work when I was offered a higher rate of pay elsewhere and a 6 month contract. Since then, they refuse to give me any work. They are very corrupt and operate unprofessionally. They're also very racially bias. I've now realized that it doesn't matter what branch I contact. They'll intentionally block you.

Hays Aberdeen

Hays Aberdeen - promised countless meetings, eventually agreed on a telephone call with them never calling me, no apology whatsoever and now being ghosted. Use TMM Recruitment instead.

Avoid!

My 18 year old Daughter applied for a job with this company as an apprentice. We were given a choice of locations for interview, nearest being 80 miles away.
We did it though as she has a real passion for the industry, paid fuel, ULEZ, Tolls, very long day.
Were given wrong location which made her 20 mins late for interview, confronted by a rude lady on arrival noting she was late. Maybe give the right location then?
She did her very best considering the un necessary added stress of travel and wrong info sent.
Some 3 weeks later get a standard thanks but no thanks email.
Disgraceful putting a 18 yr old through this with no personalisation as to why she didn't get the position.
Worse thing is salary was less than min payment.

Clear guidance and feedback in the Interview stage

I spoke with Josie who is a Talent Acquisition Business Partner at the London branch, and although I wasn’t successful I found the interview process very insightful. Josie was extremely friendly and professional. I was given clear feedback all in good time as well. Has given me clear insight as to what I need to do with regard to future applications

Awful 'recruitment company and recruiter'

All the bad reviews you've read they're true. The same bad experience time and time again. I dealt with someone called Francisca and she didn't keep me informed and let me know of any outcome of the 'selection process'. You will get ghosted by this company and Francisca. Poor recruiter and awful experience.

Awful, simply awful

So, I’ve been with Hays about 3 years now and it’s only the last half a year I’ve started to hate even having to contact them over anything whatsoever. It’s a fight to get things done or even getting my consultant to pick up her phone and talk to me. I’m not surprised at all to see other bad reviews on here. Just don’t bother signing up to them , it’s stressful enough in life with having to deal with Hays too.

Half truths and lack of transparency

The AI recruiter LinkedIn thing sent me a message regarding a job posting in my town for a company I’ve wanted to get on with for years. I responded, and we started the process of interviewing. The way the initial coms were worded is that they were just working to recruit/head hunt that I would be working for the company I wanted. I was given incorrect info about the position (nothing to major but enough to put your back up; wrong shift times, location, even duties). The other issue was the recruiter was distracted and unprofessional. constantly having to call back about details we just talked about.

As for the interview with the company; the Hiring manager was really impressed wanted me asap. The recruiter called me to let me know, and wanted me to accept right then, I said “I’d like to review a contract prior to accepting, please send me a contract to review” was told not a problem, compliance will send that for you along with the steps you’ll have to complete to move on within the next 24-48 hours. I get this email, no contract. I call compliance and say “I’m not clicking accept, until I can review a contract”. I’m told “that just accepts your hourly rate, and then your contract is in the next menus, it will be there don’t worry”. I’m also told at this point I have to send in a ton of personal finance info (bank statements, T4s, ROIs, invoices to clients, emails between myself and clients, schedules) to prove I’m who I say I am. That seemed off to me. But I wanted to the position in hopes I could get in full time with this company. I log in and click accept, which accepts the position. Next it wants my info. I keep going in hopes that populates into the contract. The next screen has no contract, just training. I email compliance with a screen shot, asking where do I find my contract for review, I get radio silence. The recruiter calls me to try to tear into me. I told her, I’m not happy, that I requested the contract for review, I have my own consulting business , I have to review for any conflicts. She makes excuses about legal would have that, it’s just a basic contract everyone gets. I said okay have them send that over for review. Then she said no they can’t, because it has to be made for me. Then there was the excuses that it’s Hays that I work for and that it’s their contract (okay easy then send it over?) then it became their client being the reason they couldn’t. Either way she was getting too pushy with half truths and manipulation. I withdrew my candidacy. I have the right to see my contract, and I’m not about to enter a partnership blindly.

Utterly awful ,where do I start?...

Where do I start?...
These individuals have to be the most incompetent, useless, annoying, and ignorant group of people there is.
My organisation, which is situated in Central London, kind of directed me to use them, and they were the worst time-wasters I've ever had to deal with.
I've been in the industry long enough to know why a firm would pay Hays to handle its recruitment, however, this will turn out to be a major faux pas in the long term when the clients will soon start departing.
Completely immoral, with absolutely no integrity whatsoever, they would gladly log calls and go through the motions just for the sake of it and for their own gain alone, with zero intentions to contribute in any way.
I hope this review will help you, whether you're a company or an individual.
All my close clients now, simply refuse to engage as soon as Hays makes any kind of approach.
All the best.

Absolutely awful agency

I was working with Georgina at the Brighton branch.
They first advertised a job that turned out to be non existent. The job was to be an intervention teacher in local schools, apparently 'urgently required' turned out there were no schools currently interested. Instead they just want you and your information on their books.
After a few months of going through all the paperwork, the checks I was told 'we are looking for work for you' even though at initial contact was told there was lots of work available. I had about 2-3 days of offers of work that was impossible for me to do, miles from my home (they were completely aware of my need to do school runs too). They would phone at 8am just as I'm leaving to take my children to school and expect to go teach a full class miles from location. Not one of the calls were suitable and it was just TA cover or teacher cover not the position I applied for. The last contact I had from this dreadful agency was 8th November 23 and still no work no emails or calls. All I get is emails asking me to refer a friend, which is the absolute last thing I would do. They lie about work promise there's work available when there is nothing. Steer well clear of this agency.. don't waste your time.

Very Dodgy Agency

Very dodgy agency. I was contacted by Hays and offered a three-month temporary contract with the "strong" possibility of a permanent position after the three months. I got on really well with the client but the job ended after four weeks. The client told me it was always going to be a three or four-week contract to cover until they found a new starter through their usual recruitment process. So Hays lied in order to entice me to take the position and make their cut. Pretty low. Avoid.
