This was great training provided by Mike Hyden

Mike provided interesting training about Homelessness Best Practice, he kept us all engaged and wanting to know more. There were some good case examples used to get us thinking about how to apply the law, has provided us with some useful resources which we can use to support individuals who are at risk of or become homeless. I particularly like the list of case law examples which we can find in full detail on the LGSO website. I have a better understanding of what a 'priority need' it in housing terms and when there is an 'automatic' need and where someone is eligible under a 'vulnerability' need. I will use either the 'Smith Test' or 'Thomas Test' when supporting people to present as homeless. In general, this training has given me more confidence to appropriately challenge housing departments where individuals are incorrectly deemed as 'not eligible' for support.
