Unacceptable Provider No-Shows and Improper Billing

I had a deeply disappointing experience with Headway that I feel obligated to warn others about.

I was referred to Headway by my doctor to find a therapist for medical clearance related to surgery. The provider assigned to me missed multiple appointments and created serious scheduling issues that delayed my care.

• The first scheduled consultation was completely missed by the provider with no notice.
• The second appointment was scheduled for 10:00 PM, but the provider attempted to conduct it at 10:00 AM instead.
• The final appointment on January 5th at 10:00 AM was also missed. I was present and waiting in the virtual session, messaged the provider that day, and received no response. The provider later canceled the appointment.
• Despite the provider’s no-show, I was charged $100.

I took time off work specifically for these appointments. Being billed for a provider’s failure to attend is unacceptable. What’s worse is that Headway has not been helpful in resolving the issue.

If you are seeking care that is time-sensitive or medically necessary, proceed with caution. This experience caused unnecessary stress, delays, and financial burden.

They begin by taking your payment…

They begin by taking your payment information and providing you with an estimated cost based on your insurance. My estimated cost before my first session was $75 with in network insurance. After three sessions I kept getting emails from Headway regarding corrections in billing, and now I am being retroactively charged for a per session cost of $142. And of course, there is no telephone number or email address, just dumb virtual assistance to help you.

As a therapist in practice

As a therapist in practice, not associated with Headway in any way, I noticed that I was billed by them last week. I had downloaded a free pdf from them 17 months ago. Because, they do not have live support in any form, I am not able to quickly rectify this situation. I have emailed them, to no avail. Because I do not have an account with them, I am not able to easily contact them via email through an account. As I provider, I would not recommend them to anyone because of the difficulties in getting in touch with them and also because I have absolutely no idea why and what I was billed for.

Just like so many others

Just like so many others, I too, am having issues with their inaccurate billing. My provider recently started using this company. Prior to them, I had no issues with billing. My provider charges $150 per session, which is documented on her website. I scheduled an appointment with her in December 2025. Headway had initially stated that I didn’t have a copay, which I knew was incorrect, but figured I would at least be charged the $150 my provider charges. The second week of January, I get a notification stating that owe $195.55, with my insurance. I looked at my EOB and saw that I was charged $391.10 for my therapy visit. How is that possible if my provider charges $150 per session?!? Of course, Headway has been taking their time, to give me an answer on why I was charged $391.10. Seems like they are attempting to fraud the insurance company, while also scamming me. This has been a nightmare.

DON’T USE!!!!

If you are looking for a physiatrist who will provide care based on your individual needs don't use this platform. My primary care Dr suggested I see a psychiatrist for more specialized care regarding my ADHD. I picked my provider based on her description of being caring, non-judgmental, collaborative etc. She was the opposite. Almost everything I told her was dismissed and disregarded. She made a plan to trial a medication for two weeks and to not pick up the vyvanse my primary care Dr had prescribed. I agreed. We met and I told her the medication caused significant edema, weight gain, and excessive thirst. I was then told to keep taking it. I asked if I could just resume the vyvanse and was told “not without a drug test. Maybe this is why your medications doesn’t work because of all the flip flopping” mind you she had met me twice and knew hardly anything about me. I discontinued care with her but proceeded to get the drug test/blood work she wanted me to get to avoid raising red flags. However, once I resumed care with my primary care Dr, the medications he prescribed were put on hold at the pharmacy without explanation. At one point I was told by a staff member that my dr had stated not to prescribe any controlled substances to me. This did not make sense as I had just met with him, explained the whole ordeal, he in return was empathetic and apologized for what i had been through, and then resent my prescriptions. When I asked if the provider who I discontinued care with made that statement I was not given a clear answer. Obviously this is assuming but once the drug test came back clear (ten days later)all the sudden the hold on my prescriptions lifted. My husband also tried to use the app and they kept trying to tell him he was depressed even though he kept telling them his moods were a direct side effect of his unmanaged ADHD for which he had already been diagnosed with. When they stated they would only prescribe an antidepressant stating it could also work for ADHD he refused. He then advised to see someone else and was told “Good luck with that.” When asked about a refund because it cost us 400 dollars they stated no refund would be given. Save your money. Any provider in charge of ADHD care without MD listed in their credentials is going to waste a lot of your time. It isn't all their fault, they are a bit forced to adhere to a lot of strict rules but unfortunately that has caused them to assess for and treat risks, not patients. Obviously Drs are still under strict rules too but they are a lot more capable of managing the risks while still effectively treating the patient when compared to Nurse Practitioners.

Beware of Headway

I will never use Headway/Mood Health again. After months of unresolved insurance/billing issues (I've sent many emails, contacted Mood Health and my insurance company), my issues still have not been resolved! I logged in again today and messaged with Alvin. He said that he was transferring me to someone who could better help me....35 minutes of waiting and waiting for this "transfer" and I was totally ghosted!

Waste of money

Waste of money!
1st, after making an appointment and putting my credit card information in the klarity website I was then asked to also put my credit card information into the headway website to be able to confirm the appointment with the doctor which was weird. But I did.
2nd, my appt was scheduled for 3pm, the Dr. Tobiloba Adewolu rescheduled it to 4:15pm and asked if it was ok after doing it. It was fine but there was nothing easy or smooth about this process.
3rd Dr. Tobiloba Adewolu barely asked me questions about my actual symptoms instead asking if im having suicidal thoughts and self harm, which i get he has to ask, but that has nothing to do with me not being about to focus and get things done and be productive. He then asked me 2 questions about when I was in middle school, 30+ years ago. He said if I really had adhd I would remember specific incidents in elementary school. Which I completely dont understand, I can barely remember what I did last week, thats part of the reason I was seeing him. He then continued that it could be my hormones that id need blood work and then another appt with him. He told me to go see a primary physician, get tests done and go back to him. Why would i do that to spend another 200 dollars for the next appt plus whatever the primary doctor costs and lab tests. The purpose of me using and paying Klarity/Headway was to not have to go to a primary physician which will take a long time to get an appt and to help me save some money. Well that was a waste of time and money, I don't feel like I was actually listened to or understood, instead the doctor looked like he could barely keep his eyes open and just wanted to get off the call. My session was scheduled for 45 minutes, we only talked for 30 minutes. This website talks a whole lot about compassion, I did NOT experience any compassion, just low cold energy, no personality, he couldn't even crack a little smile and show me he was an actual person who cared, I left feeling like I was a bother to him. I wish I could get my money back! Worst 1st experience with a mental health doctor, which im regretting now. I am definitely not one to leave bad reviews but its alot of money for people to just waste on this but if it works for you, I am happy for you. It didnt work for me.

Update. I was literally charged $235 for a 30 minute call, which was supposed to be 45 minutes. When I made the initial appointment it said it would cost $197. Do Not use Headway or Klarity, ridiculous.

This website is piece of trash

This website is piece of trash. You will see all kinds of billing issues (They had overcharged me in multiple ways and this can't be accident). You will have no way of connecting with them and they only have a weird & dumb AI chat that you need to talk with. Stay away from this website at all costs.

They make your mental health worse

How do I offer through my health insurance. I have seen a therapist through here and she’s great. Her name is Crystal. This review is about Sandy Abdelkedous. I had my initial appointment with her. She didn’t really listen to my problems. She explained to her that I was having a really bad week and had to call the suicidal line and was in the hospital. At one point she said she had to use the restroom. So mind you I’ve been going through a lot mentally my family got sick a Hunt and my second appointment and I didn’t know there was a $200 cancellation. I’ve never heard of that Max I’ve ever seen was $50 this provider refused to refund me. They should’ve been really clear about how much this provider charged if this were to happen because that’s a lot of money. She was very rude and refused to refund headway did absolutely nothing in inside it with her. I do not recommend this company.

Headway has repeatedly mishandled insurance and payments

Headway has repeatedly mishandled our billing, even with active insurance coverage on file. Both my husband and my daughter were charged when they should not have been, and despite our deductible being met and the provider confirming no payment was due, Headway still charged the card on file. While they agreed to refund the charge, they refused to take responsibility for the overdraft fee their error caused. Beware. I will be reviewing them on my insurance company site too.

DO NOT USE HEADWAY

DO NOT USE HEADWAY! They are so slow to charge you for sessions and their customer service is horrible. I got charged 3 months later for 2 sessions for the full price even though I have insurance. Contacting them about this issue is even worse because you have to speak to AI first and then get transferred to an actual person. These people that I finally got transferred to claimed that I was charged the full amount because it said I haven’t been insured since 2023, which is completely false. I haven’t even changed my insurance. On top of that they don’t let you take your banking information off the site so they can continue to charge you for things you shouldn’t be paying for. This not only happened to me but also to my roommate the week prior. She was charged over 500 dollars for the same thing, taken out of her account the next day. Headway will scam you! Do not use.

This is the worst provider I've ever…

This is the worst provider I've ever used. They are not transparent about their billing whatsoever. Even if you set everything up correctly to be charged for each session they have weeks of delays before you get a bill. I set up my account to auto-process payments for all my sessions, but they charged over $1000 worth of sessions in one day causing massive issues with my bank. I would never recommend using them. if you have to because your therapist office uses them, then I would recommend not keeping your card on file that's attached to your primary bank. Their billing system is the absolute worst.

Terrible company

Providers - Think twice about using this company, because you might lose your clients just as my provider lost me.

Clients/patients - If your provider uses this billing company, think twice about signing up.

I’m seeing a theme in the reviews here about Billing mistakes, and it happened to me too. Despite me giving my insurance information multiple times, because they kept losing it, they told me one co-pay and then charging me something else entirely. In fact, it was a different charge for each session. They’re blaming it on the provider, the provider says it’s headway, and at this point, both have acknowledged that they overcharged me, but they refuse to return the money until they can talk with the insurance company again. So basically they’re just holding my funds hostage.

Again, I literally have it in writing multiple times that they acknowledge they overcharged me, they apologized for overcharging, and then they told me they will not issue a refund until a certain waiting. Period in case insurance company changes its mind. And remember, they can see my benefits and what my co-pay actually is. They’re just choosing not to honor it?

Totally unethical behavior. But thankfully, great evidence for a chargeback!

Provider never showed up and had to fight no-show fee.

Made my first appointment, day of i waited on the link they sent me for almost 30 minutes and it showed the therapist as "away" the whole time. Later I emailed the therapist and he said he waited and it showed me as "away." Luckily I took screenshots of me in the waiting room because a few days later I get charged a $100 cancelation fee. After several live chats with Headway they finally opened an investigation and they did eventually refund me. But it sounds like they need to get their tech side fixed.

Headway advertises themselves as…

Headway advertises themselves as an employer. They list on job boards like they are an employer. They are not They are a billing company. They list you with common insurance companies. You can do this yourself. Then they wait for you to get referrals from the insurance companies directories. they take part of every session. I got sucked in back in 2023. I could not get them to deactivate my account. In 2025 I attended another fake job interview . I told the person to deactivate my account. She noticed I removed my picture and changed my name to not here or never worked here. She instead proceeded to add my new states of licensure. I cannot undo the CAHQ file entry. I never earned a dollar from them. I have asked them for years to deactivate me

Great service overall. The video platform uses a lot of resources, so video quality sometimes drops if I take an appointment on my phone, but otherwise no issues. The appointment reminders are nice, too.

Headway took my call during a tough time and I spoke to a live person who checked my insurance information, listened to my preferences and set me up with an in person meeting later that same week. The billing has been consistent and fair, the therapist has been fantastic and the Headway website is easy to change appointments, notify my therapist or to see what sessions have been billed. Could not ask for a better service.
