Hector's Clothing appears now to be the only place in the UK where one can buy gentlemen's half hose socks, i.e. socks that come up past the calf. I used to buy the Wolsey or Morland brand, but both seem now to be defunct. Hector's stock Viyella half hose; that'll do just as well.
The three pairs I bought recently are excellent; more relevant to this review is that Hector's('s's's) service is likewise excellent: the website is easily navigable, the prices reasonable (them socks ain't cheap but u gets wot u pays for), and delivery prompt. To crown it all, they're a small indie concern (husband'n'wife and maybe one or two crew) which suits my ethos better than some faceless non-taxpaying multinational. When next I'm flush, I'll be back for half hose and maybe other goodies for the discerning chap. Splendid!
