Bottomless Brunch

Went to Hencote with a few friends for their bottomless brunch and had a lovely experience from start to finish. The staff were extremely accommodating and made sure that every round arrived on time. The cocktails in particular were incredibly well presented and delicious, with more than enough options to pick from. The whole experience had such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, highly recommend if you’re looking for the perfect day out!

Wine tasting tour and Sunday lunch

Wine tasting tour was amazing. Lady who did it was very knowledgeable.
Only downside was did not get to see the distilling process.
Stayed for Sunday lunch and that was very tasty.
Waiter opened bottle of Evolution but just poured it straight into the glass and not offered to try first.
Ordered desert and it was just plonked on the table with no condiments to eat it with. By the time we caught someone's attention ice cream was melted.
I understand it was busy. But when it comes to pay we had to go looking for someone to pay the bill.

Fantastic establishment with incredible views of the vineyard and Shropshire countryside. Popped in for street food and drinks the service was exceptional, food brilliant can’t fault it, will definitely be making a return visit.

Poor quality food

Asked for a rare steak, was presented with medium to well. Advised waiting staff they offered to replace. As I was dining with another I declined as we would have both had to eat separately as his was cooked to his liking. Was told they would resolve this once we came to pay the bill. No resolution was offered and I paid £70 for a meal I could have got for £10 in Weathespoons. Wrote and email to management to resolve this was offered a bottle of own wine if I made another booking. Accepted, booking made but due to a serious personal issue had to cancel and thus advised management of this. No response to this cancellation. I am currently seeking legal action as what I paid for was not the product I ordered.

Wanted to love it but was disappointed

Visited last weekend as a family of 6 booked in the Sunday Wine Tour and Tasting. Our first impressions were definately ‘wow’ the view when you walk in the restaurant is stunning. We were very disappointed in the tour. I was expecting from the description on the website a vineyard tour but this did not happen. The ‘tour’ element as basically standing on a platform and given a description of the view. The tasting was good and the guy who did the tasting was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Sunday lunch was indeed delicious however it’s marketed that you get your main course Sunday lunch included in the price of £50. This is inaccurate marketing. You only £25 towards your Sunday lunch and the roast beef is £29. The only element of Sunday lunch within the price of £25 is the vegetarian option so it’s very misleading.
On the whole we had a lovely afternoon but felt I was missold which is the reason for by 3 star review. With a few tweeks this place could be great but I came away having spent £500 and feeling abit ripped off. I have contacted direct with these comments but they have failed to reply, so I get the feeling they are taking their customer base for granted.

A beautiful experience

My family and I booked a table for an evening meal last week and it did not disappoint. The location is beautiful, the food is exceptional and the staff could not have been more welcoming and accommodating. The menu caters for all. A lovely experience, can not recommend highly enough. I can't wait to return.

Hencote vineyard tour and wine tasting, birthday treat!

Fabulous day trip to Hencote to go one vineyard tour and local cheeseboard to follow. Thomas was amazing, so enthusiastic and knowledgeable, he encouraged us all to ask questions and to take photos. The views towards Shrewsbury were stunning. The wines we tasted were absolutely delicious, so much so that we bought a case as a special treat! The cheeseboard was lovely and the Vivian wine complimented it. Great place and great people. Thank you!

The setting is stunning but the food…

The setting is stunning but the food was disappointing and overpriced, starters:duck liver parfait had no taste, mackerel was better, mains: steak was good but chunky chips hard in the middle, chicken very dry with potatoes again hard in the middle, bottle of red £42. large glass of white £11. Total bill £143! for 2 people Staff very friendly but it seemed our server was under trained didn’t pour wine to taste or ask how to cook steak, restaurant itself was clean, you could see into the kitchen on arrive, but it felt like a upmarket canteen

We’ve been visiting Hencote for nearly…

We’ve been visiting Hencote for nearly two years now….and with each visit hoping to find a better experience than the last. Why? Because the location and overall ambience is stunning. Sadly our expectations are never met. The staff turnover is horrific. There’s clearly a management problem here. The service is ambivalent…however the occasions where there is a stand out team member is then followed by a swift departure. These two observations are surely linked.
The Chef seems to be ‘untouchable’ but the food is inconsistent. Soufflees uncooked..lazy presentation (for example a stunning Scotch egg plonked in a bowl so small you cannot cut it and let it fall apart) ….
Waiting team so disengaged they are more interested in drinking pints of coke behind the bar than paying attention to tables who need service). The biggest problem seems to be after starters and mains….nobody is directing from then on and it falls down horribly. I saw more customers going to find service than servers going to tables, whilst the service team were still loitering with their cokes. Shocking.
I do wish to go back but am struggling….

Uncontactable

I have been trying to book afternoon tea for my daughter in law, who is visiting from New Zealand with them for over a week now.
I have left 2 messages, emailed reception & filled out a contact form. It’s very frustrating that the phones are not maned. Time is running out now to book anything so I cannot waste anymore time on them, going elsewhere.
Very disappointed because it looks lovely.

Price gouging

Booked the Grange in January 2023 for five nights at New Year 2023-24. In May 2023, they contacted us to say that, due to a double booking and despite our contract, they would have to cancel our booking. They initially offered to find us something else, but repeatedly didn't return our calls. Eventually, we got through to a manager at Hencote, who told us that the Grange was not booked at New Year after all, but we could book at a considerably higher price. After a lot of chasing, and no satisfactory response from Hencote, we eventually found somewhere else, without their help. Wouldn't want to stay anywhere that treats its customers like Hencote does anyway.

A special occasion at Hencote

I had been waiting for ages for a special occasion to celebrate at Hencote. I had been there for coffee but I wanted to share the beautiful view with the family and try the food. We went on a Sunday afternoon, the food was excellent and even up to the standard of our youngest son - a very critical aspiring chef. The service was faultless, the atmosphere was relaxing yet vibrant and of course the view across Shrewsbury was stunning.

Gorgeous setting, Poor Steaks😔

Gorgeous environment to relax with stunning views over Shrewsbury. Poor food to table quality unfortunately, given the prices! Good wine choices, which you'd expect for a vineyard, especially Sahara's knowledge, who was exceptional.
