Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 285 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found the app and website to be problematic, with issues like shadowbanning and a lack of genuine profiles, making it difficult to connect with real people. Customers often reported being banned without clear reasons, even after verifying their identity, which led to frustration and a feeling of unfair treatment. The subscription model was also a point of contention, with users feeling that the platform's business model prioritizes user retention over successful relationships and that they were receiving poor value. However, some customers also noted that the app's design and profile prompts were appealing, fostering more natural conversations. A few other people also felt that they had positive experiences, with some even meeting their life partners through the platform.

Ridiculously expensive and extremely poor value.

Ridiculously expensive!

Despite charging me an extortionate £50 per month for a very small choice of unattractive women in my age group, they force me to pay extra to contact any person in their “Standouts” category. The only way to communicate with them is by sending a chargeable “Rose”, which is neither a real rose nor even a picture of one, all they receive a bit of text that says “# sent you a rose”. So I paid once already but now they want to charge me per person for the service that I am already paying for? This stinks.

The Hinge app has a photo verification system which gets you to put your face in front of your phone's camera and move in ridiculously close. It failed to verify my about 12 times. Turns out that it won't verify you unless one of your profile photos is a close picture of your face without sunglasses. You only get to upload 6 photos anyway and I'm not wasting one of them on something that looks like a passport photo. I will remain unverified if that's the best they can do.

If you're a very young looking 63 (I look like I'm in my late 40s) then prepare to be matched with wrinkly women who look like your granny. Once you have rejected them, expect to wait several days for another to join, only to reject again. All this for about £50 per month? I feel like I am being ripped off.

I’m new to the dating scene and paid…

I’m new to the dating scene and paid for a one-week subscription just to try things out, but my account was suspended after only a day. They claimed I violated their rules, yet never explained which rule. I hadn’t even contacted anyone on the app — I didn’t find any of the profiles appealing. I appealed the suspension, but it was denied, and customer support told me they can suspend accounts without giving a reason or issuing a refund. I found that incredibly unreasonable. The lack of transparency and professionalism is shocking. With thousands of similar complaints about Hinge online, I can’t imagine this business model working for them long-term.

Been on Hinge for a week after signing up for 3 months. Bearly any selection that is unless of course you want to buy roses and all the extras.
Well I tell you getting clipped for $100.00 receiving no messages or any likes. Can't believe Hinge on Google comes up in top 3 lolol.
Funny thing is my pics work all the time on several other sites.
Save your money!

Hinge can not be trusted

Hinge is a not a serious business.

Most people I connected with, seem to be alright. Made quite a few connections and planned to meet some IRL. But suddenly, out of nowhere, they shut down my account. And, they refuse to tell me why. "Violating our rules" could mean anything, I'm pretty sure that I didn't brake any rules. If I did, I was totally unaware of it.

A serious company, would give you an explanation. Hinge, couldn't bother. That, to me, being a paying user, proves that they are not serious and feel entitled to steel your money whenever - and destroy your connections with other people.

And they ask YOU to be serious....What a joke.

It’s not even worthy of a star

It’s not even worthy of a star. I was on the app for a few days. Sent a couple of messages to guys who liked my photos and/or sent me a message, two minutes later I receive “I’m banned.” Genuinely have no idea what I did. And let’s just say all of my photos are fully clothed, nothing inappropriate. Didn’t know hinge was owned by match.com - you would be better off at eharmony.

Waste of time

Don’t know what’s happened with Hinge all of a sudden but I suddenly get random women appear when my settings are set to men only. I’m getting one like every few days on pics I don’t even have on my profile anymore so makes me think they withhold your actual like count to an extent. I’ve had the account for about 10 days and not one single match when in the past (only previous months this year) I’ve at least had a few matches by now, not tooting my own horn at all. I feel like actual potential matches are also withheld from you and you only see people you’re just not going to like. Don’t waste your time and certainly don’t waste your money if you’re thinking about it

Got banned for no reason

I downloaded the app for the first time, set up my profile and got a few matches. Messaged one or two of them and then got banned! Out of nowhere. My pics and prompts were all compliant with TOS. I have no idea why this happened. I even paid for the plus subscription.

This is by far the most dysfunctional and poorly maintained dating app I’ve ever used.

This is by far the most dysfunctional and poorly maintained dating app I’ve ever used.

I created a brand-new Hinge profile with my real photos and honest information — and the app banned me within 48 hours without a single explanation, warning, or reason.

No message.
No support.
No appeal.
Just deleted.

And the irony?
The app is full of obvious bots and scammers, but somehow a real person gets removed instantly.

The technical quality of the app is shocking:
• Messages stuck permanently on “Not delivered”
• Verification not working at all
• Feature freezes every few minutes
• Basic functions glitch constantly
• Support does not reply — ever

As a former software engineer, I can say confidently:
this product is built cheaply, maintained poorly, and relies on automated systems that can’t distinguish real people from bots.

And now they demand that users send their ID to some automated system just to access an appeal?
It feels unsafe, unnecessary, and completely inappropriate for a dating app.

Hinge is clearly focused on monetizing subscriptions rather than providing a functional or safe platform. They “delete” real users instead of investing in proper developers or responsible customer service.

If you value your privacy, your time, and basic respect — choose any other app.

Hinge is the biggest disappointment in the dating app market.
A broken product with zero accountability.

Hinge banned me for no reason.

1/5 — Hinge banned me for no reason.

I created a brand-new profile with my real information and normal, beautiful photos - and Hinge still managed to block me within 48 hours.

No explanation.
No warning.
No appeal option.
Just deleted.

Honestly, it feels like Hinge automatically flags any woman who actually looks good in her photos.
Because I didn’t break a single rule.

The app is full of bugs:
• Messages stay permanently “Not delivered”
• Verification doesn’t work
• The system freezes
• Basic features glitch
• Support is non-existent

How is this even a functioning product?

I tried to verify myself — the feature crashed every time.
I tried to message matches — everything was stuck on “Not delivered.”
And then the app banned me out of nowhere, as if I’m some bot.

I’m a real person, a real mother, with a real life.
Maybe Hinge should learn to tell the difference.

Their automated system is so broken it removes legitimate users while letting scammers stay.
And support?
They don’t answer. Ever.

For an app that calls itself “designed to be deleted,” it seems they prefer deleting real people instead.

Until they fix their flawed verification, their useless support, and their outdated tech, I strongly suggest choosing any other dating platform.

This is the most unreliable and poorly maintained dating app I’ve ever used.

Account was banned for violating terms with no explanation

Account was banned for violating terms and conditions after l day of use after paying for a subscription. I was matched and chatting with some ladies and within 10mins..banned???? No obscene or derogative statements, just a message saying l was banned. When appealinf asking what was violated so l don't intentionally or unintentionally do it again, no response. They have the right to not advise to protect users..what a load of s#$!. Being a US based company what laws are in place to protect consumers? If anyone knows who looks after consumer rights in the US, let me know. They need to be shut down as they are taking a lot of consumers for a ride after paying for a subscription. Disgusting business ethic.

Money pit of a dating app

I signed up 3 days ago. All I can see on the app are people I have already passed on, except for under the standouts tab. But to connect with them I have to purchase "roses" to give out, at the cost of $1.99-$3.99 each. I've already paid $50 for the month, I shouldn't have to shell out extra $$ to connect with people on the site.

Designed to be deleted...because it is thát bad

Hinge says: "Designed to be deleted", and right they are. Garbage needs removal. There are bad dating sites with a few good people but then there is the next level of bad dating sites: Hinge.

In general, two groups of people on Hinge. The photos and texts give it away pretty easily. 1) The 'high life' entitled rich daddy traveler/manager girl, so spoiled that she is numb to anything and believes entitlement to everything, 2) the 'low life' types as lazy gold-diggers leveraging rich restaurant dates, basically selling themselves. Both groups very unsuitable to have as girlfriend or wife, let alone mother of your children.

Did the normal girls already leave because there are no normal guys?

I never thought

Never in my lifetime would I have EVER thought I would be leaving a review on a dating site. Since the pandemic I have been an occasional user of apps, because it was the only way to meet people outside your own personal network. I was keen as possible to scams. But even some scammers would meet in person. So recently I stumbled on a profile that I recognized the photos. Some were studio photos but some were candid from their life. She’s a super famous person, so of course I did a little research and she mentioned a dating app but not “Hinge.” So that was a red flag. Maybe the scammers knew that interview, because it would be a great hook. We have all seen those videos “Catfish” has. So I thought I would humor them and possibly lure them out. eDiscovery/forensics is my career. Lo and behold a few days later the profile responded, we exchanged information to establish that I was a real person by revealing some professional/personal information to show that I wasn’t some sort of stalker/creep and we started chatting on a fairly regular basis. Both of us are very busy people. Still I was cautious, but being the respectful person that I am I never called her out on anything. My thought was that the effort was minimal. I shared my own life experiences and she mirrored many of them, but nothing that only she would know. A simple google search would show that those things were very well known. Last week she invited me to an event. Nothing fancy but still an event. It was worth going to anyway, so I she didn’t show up, no big deal. We hadn’t exchanged any phone numbers yet. I did give her my number just so that she had the safety of having it. Traffic was horrible but we made it to the location pretty close in the tine we had arranged. She told me what she was wearing, and there she was! She was really here. At least it was really her! But in my head, I had those insecurities rush to my brain. What if she doesn’t like me? Will I be “dismissed?” She’s a gracious and kind person. The event was great! I am not so presumptuous to think that we are “dating” but without Hinge I would have never met her.

Not trustworthy

I liked the site. Many sections where with Ai recommendations. Almost everything seemed not good enough that was a bit annoying. Especially as my writing is intelligent and considerate and my pictures do look natural and real. Anyway, after not long I received a note that my account was banned because I did not follow rules. I was shocked. I was then told that I had to give government-issued ID and live picture proof. I refused as it was a bit too personal. To be honest the whole pushy and Ai driven approach and strategies, instinctively felt wrong Sorry to say but as I did not break the rules and this all was only their strategy I became a bit suspicious and ask myself if they are not stealing whole ID’s of people there. A bit scary really. I would not recommend them as they feel fake and not trustworthy.

Awful

Awful, awful company. Match group are the most unethical and unreasonable company I have ever come across in my entire life, they will gladly take your money and then shadowban or fully ban your account for a myriad of nonsensical reasons such as swiping too much, deleting the app and remaking your profile, not responding to messages. They will stop sending your likes and messages out despite you paying for the highest tier premium service and then completely disregard you when you attempt to contact their support, offering you nothing more than bot like scripted responses.

On top of all this they are botting/buying fake reviews for their app on the App Store, don’t believe me? Just take a look at their reviews, you’ll see dozens of similar statements such as “thanks found my wife” or “love my wife”, they aren’t even attempting to make them look legitimate.
