Wish that I didn’t even have to put one…

Wish that I didn’t even have to put one star, but you have to put at least something. These people show exactly what Hawaii is- absolute lack of showing up for their people and grinding into them for any penny they can possibly get out. They play all these moves as they are supposed to being an insurance company as if they are there for you and want to help you. Complete money, hungry BS bullshit. Whatever you do just try and find something better because I think anything is better than HMSA quest. They bounced me around for months making me make phone calls trying to figure out why my daughter wasn’t covered and it ended up being an issue on their side. Then when they finally put my daughter on insurance they said it was too late for them to be billed. YUCK, now $6k of my money going to ABSOLUTELY nothing.

TAKING AWAY BENEFITS WHILE ADDING MONTHLY FEE!

Unfortunately, HMSA has added a monthly surcharge to the advantage plan for seniors WHILE THEY REMOVE BENEFITS TOUTING THEY WANT TO CARE FOR THE COMMUNITY AND SENIORS! AS TOLD TO ME BY SEVERAL HMSA PERSONNEL, THE REASON FOR THE ADDED MONTHLY CHARGE IS DUE TO ---- GET THIS ---- THEM NOT BEING ABLE TO COVER ALL THE COSTS--- SO THEY HAVE TO CHARGE SENIORS OUT OF POCKET! REALLY?! HOW CONNIVING AND ABSURD. PERHAPS THEY SHOULD LOOK AT HOW TO REORGANIZE THEIR INFRASTRUCTURE AND HOW TO MANAGE, AND CREATE A MORE EFFICIENT ORGANIZATION? THEY MUST THINK PEOPLE ARE STUPID. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND GOING WITH ANOTHER INSURANCE COMPANY.

Horrible sneaky deceptive…

Horrible sneaky deceptive money-grubbing incompetence. My shoulder surgery will end up costing me more than $7000 with this nefarious insurance company. They reject the charges in common surgical procedures as if I am supposed to wake up during surgery and say, "Oh no, my insurance won't cover such and such." Avoid getting sick if you have them. Avoid them completely if you can.

HMSA Out of control “For Profit Organization”!

HMSA is worst insurance that I have ever participated in. I pay over $1000.00 a month and the service is nonexistent. Policy is arbitrary in terms of approving claims. Very poor customer service impossible to get thru to a representative. My providers constantly complain about inability to get thru for approvals. Perfect example of a for profit agency without checks and balances. Better off getting Medicaid they don’t pay either but at least you save a $1000.00 per month.

Customer service is the worst ever

Customer service is the worst ever, here at HMSA. Unfortunately, they have been a monopoly with Kaiser Permanente a close second.

Sandy Kai, the PPO (yes, there is just one person) is useless and does not know anything about how to help those in crisis mode. Her boss, Lena does not respond either. Blind leading the blind.

6 hour wait times for customer service

I am having the most horrible experience with HMSA. I pay over $600/month for an individual platinum PPO with a prescription drug plan. I just went to pick up a prescription at the pharmacy and my bill for medicine was $365. The pharmacist said that I don't have an active drug plan (I do). He called HMSA and they were no help to him. He asked me to call the number on the back of my HMSA card. I called the number and it said there was a system error and it kicked me off the call. Then I went down the rabbit hole calling other numbers, went through their ridiculous automated system which can't understand a word that I say. After asking for a representative 15 times, I finally got connected to a person. Then that person said I don't have an active HMSA plan (I do have an active plan and was looking at it on my app at that moment and it says ACTIVE in green and my bill is paid up). That person said there is nothing I can do and transferred me to another number where the wait time was an hour and 20 minutes. I had to run errands and couldn't wait on the phone that long so I reluctantly paid the $365 for my prescription and went home and called HMSA where the wait time is now 360 minutes which is about 6 hours! Unbelievable. I thought my husbands Kaiser was really bad but HMSA is just pitiful and such a disappointment.

HMSA is the absolute worse and should…

HMSA is the absolute worse and should be avoided at all cost. I thought I couldn't possibly get worse than Kaiser but HSA is even worse. I paid $800 a month and still had a massive deductible so the $800 was basically a donation that covered nothing ever. They can't answer their phones And the average time is 2 to 3 hours, once for three hours and one minute before giving up. Their email intake does not work and I'm sure that's intentional as they essentially do not want to be contacted or bothered by their customers. Got ripped off by Sleep center HAWAII and they stood by and did absolutely nothing for me. The medical system in Hawaii is the third world and these corporations are corporate, criminals ripping people off. Avoid them at all cost and go to a mainland provider like colonial life you'll be thankful you did.

Terrible Phone Support

I called HMSA to ask for their help on a referral and obtaining copies of records. After being on hold, I was offered the option of giving a call back number so HMSA could call me back when its my turn. I received an automated call back and after waiting over an hour on hold I gave up. Terrible service.

I was recently in a predicament

I was recently in a predicament because I signed up for a new health plan at the beginning of this year and mistakenly thought that my old plan would be canceled, until I saw my bill and was charged for two health plans. I called HMSA and was helped by Calvin, whose soothing voice and personality put me at ease and I knew I was in capable and caring hands! He had to go through a different department to help me cancel my previous plan and they were able to reimburse me, I'm not sure if it's because I hadn't used the plan, yet, but I am always receiving awesome, professional and courteous service from the people at HMSA. Thank you, again, Calvin!!

Jan B. of HMO Tele Service Rep

On June 14, 2021, Jan B. a representative for HMSA HMO division helped me out & answered questions plus she made calls to help me set-up an appt with a new provider. She also assisted with billings questions & help to correct it. Jan was very pleasant, friendly, comforting, clear communication skills & extremely PATIENT. We were on the phone for a long while & she checked & verified everything. It's been over 11 years since I've had HMSA & she made my experience extremely positive. Thank you Jan B.
