Clear the Shelter Included Free microchip so don't fall for "Membership Renewal Scam"

I adopted a shelter cat from San Bernardino County during "Clear the Shelter" in August with no fees, including free microchip. I just finished filling out her membership and saw below it a link saying it expires in November 2024. Huh? I checked it out and it makes you feel you have to send them $25 for additional services, but you don't. Once microchipped your pet is in the system for life. I have other pets who were microchipped years ago through another company that doesn't play these games.

Customer service is awful

Customer service is awful. They repeatedly pursued me for payment on one of my pets. I paid the registration 4 times and the payment didn't go through on their side. I've called repeatedly and they want nothing to do but just keep rerunning, which doesn't work. Account has an IT problem but the CSR's will only read from the script and not listen. Did try to get transferred to a supervisor one time but was on hold for just over an hour before I finally gave up and hung. Additionally, I have 3 pets that are suppose to be on my account but only 2 are showing up. The third just disappeared one day. So frustrated with them and based on the reviews I see here...this is just a normal business day to them.

Well Worth the Annual Renewal Price

The bill clearly states that chip database information stays on file (and can be updated) regardless of whether you choose to renew. I'm renewing because of the 24/7/365 Medical Hotline. I called to make sure it's legit and was connected to a knowledgeable professional within less than two minutes. There are other benefits, but to me that one resource alone is worth the very reasonable annual subscription fee.

I sniffed a SCAM.... yup!

My adopted pet caused me to be exposed to Merck's SCAM at $25/year, by falsely implying membership fees are required for the chip to do its job. I discovered a lawsuit is addressing this. Shame on Merck. I am disturbed and offended that the MSPCA is using this dis-service, and I'll be speaking with them.

DO NOT EVER USE HOMEAGAIN PET…

DO NOT EVER USE HOMEAGAIN PET RECOVERY!!!! 🤬😡🤬 PSA I got my pet microchipped when I adopted her 16 yrs ago. The company sold to another and started charging annually for recovery services. Fine, I paid it. After she died, I tried to cancel my membership. There’s no way to report a pet who has passed on the website. I called the number and they asked me to spell my name, my pets name, her microchip number, my email and my phone number to cancel but they give you ten seconds before ending the call and disconnecting you. No way to talk to a real human. Not nearly enough time to give the answers they asked for cancelling. So I had to say I was a vet to get to talk to a customer service rep to then get them to FINALLY cancel my membership. I will be reporting them to the BBB, but I beg you to not use this one. I did file a complaint with Homeagain, as well. Greed has taken over.

We called and got a representative on the phone. The rep was being disrespectful, talking over us, not listeing to what we had to say. It was un delightful and unprofessional. Its also false advertisement. The chip inside the animal is not a Gps chips its a pointless chip that can be taken out of the animal by anyone. With that being said it is a small chance that the animal would be found.DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY.

Its not a scam

My husband I went to an out-of-town wedding and left our dog with our daughter. Through no fault of hers he got out of their fenced yard and started RUNNING THROUGH CHICAGO!!! Just a few minutes into his "adventure" a kind soul grabbed him, saw that he was chipped and wearing the Home Again tag, called the number and he was reunited with my daughter! It would have been faster if I had not accused the caller of being "some kind of scam" IT WAS NOT! If i hadnt had the tag he would have gone to the pound!

Refunds are impossible

My pet was microchipped by our vet's office on March 26, 2024. I went to register it and was shown it would be free. My order confirmation was for $0. Magically I was charged for $24.99 twice. I was told 30 days on a refund. Then 45 days. Now after 47 days there was a "clerical error" and they would call me back within 24 hours. Of course they are full of empty promises and that did not happen. I am on the phone with them currently. While the agents are friendly, they are useless. Nobody can seem to get me answers on where my refund is. Do not use this company.

These neanderthals screwed up the name on our account and won't fix it. Tried contacting them several times and they refuse to fix it. I'm angry my vet used this brand as these guys have no customer service and they keep spamming us every year to buy their BS services which are total crap and unnecessary.

BEWARE DON'T GET A MEMBERSHIP

They automatically signed me up for a 2 year membership and charged my credit card. When asked for a refund say it takes 30 to 45 days to process and won't even give me proof it's been canceled and I'm getting a refund. Everytime I call I'm told the same thing and my account still shows an active 2 year membership.

Worthless

I registered the microchip for pet recovery.Verified registration, enrolled into account. A week later I couldn't login, no account. I tried to re-enroll but it wouldn't permit because the microchip was already registered and enrolled.
I called Customer Service, twice. Worthless. They said the chip didn't exist, the account wasn't registered and offered no assistance. The Vet office has previously enrolled and has to attempt again.

SCAMMING PAYING CUSTOMERS

I have Paid for the premium membership since 2018!
After a confirmation email stating my membership has been renewed year after year.I received an email stating my membership has expired in June 2023,it is March 2024! So looking back at my confirmation emails I see I have proof along with my credit card statements that payment was made! Also looking back into the emails one year I was charged three times! I have been going back and forth with customer service they are telling me I have not paid, So basically I have been overcharged not knowing that until now and my dog has not been apart of the premium membership for eight months now and I’m just being notified!
I am sharing my experience in hopes no one will go through what I am going through. Some may be going through this and not even aware!
So I am in the process of getting this resolved and it’s so sad I have proof of payment have been a premium member since 2018 and I am going back and forth with nonsense. Terrible customer service that don’t do their job correctly and lord knows how many more pet parents are being scammed! Save you emails people and credit card statements for proof of payments!

Failure to update records

I adopted my dog in 2015 and went through the steps to transfer her microchip information to my name. Tried to log in to the account today to update my address, and found no pet listed in my account. When I contacted support to sort it out in 2024, I learned that they never processed the change of ownership from nine years ago.
After reading through other reviews, this doesn't surprise me at all. Just another example of how disreputable this company is.

HOMEAGAIN IS A FRAUD!

HomeAgain should be rated in negative numbers;
annnnnd - INVESTIGATED BY THE USDOJ FOR FRAUD & RACKETEERING
I think they are non-existant. Calls and emails to them are not returned. We have alerted the really great rescue folks at Happy-Go-Lucky Feral Cat Rescue & Sanctuary, from whom we adopted our cat, regarding this debacle..

So far my dog has not been lost

So far my dog has not been lost. When we acquired him from the Humane Society of Tucson AZ in 2020, he came with his implant and a plastic tag with his number. I went to the website which I found to be a little annoying but overall ok. Things like color and distinguishing marks were asked and recorded. And I had it set up for "auto renew." It wwent well until this year, 2024, when I got an email saying my membership was renewed. A week later I got another email saying I had failed to renew. Went to the website and found it to be bare-bones and difficult to navigate. I don't know what has happened to them. Have they been bought out by nefarious folks? Tried to reach them by phone. Impossible. I just don't know. Next year I'll look for someone else.
