One of the best resources for learning Houdini

I found the course on Reddit and after trying to learn Houdini for the past couple years, this is by far the best one. Chris is very well informed on Houdini and gives great thinking behind how, when and why to use certain nodes or workflows. I really agree with the philosophy of this course and my only piece of feedback is wishing for more homework sprinkled into the basics portion of the course.

Additionally I really appreciate that he's no BS, he is incredibly transparent and blunt about his learning material and isn't trying to sell you the idea that it'll get you a job after finishing his course.

I really enjoy the discord as well and really appreciate how serious everyone is in there for learning Houdini.

This is a great material for anyone learning to be a VFX artist or learn the basics on how to use Houdini. I'm in the latter as I'm learning for Game Dev, which Chris even mentions in the beginning that he can only speak on how it works in VFX, but I'd say the fundamentals learned here can be transferred to a ton of mediums.

Houdini-Course by Chris has been an incredibly helpful resource for starting out my FX journey. He gives clear explanations and his practical approach has provided me with a solid foundation, making the sometimes very complex concepts in Houdini accessible and enjoyable.

Chris also seems to be passionate about helping his students succeed, he has produced a community of FX artists who are more than happy to share experiences and provide feedback on his discord channel which all students are invited too, and Chris's presence there has been an immensely helpful factor for myself.

I would highly recommend this course for anyone interested in learning FX in Houdini.

This course was included in my study at the SAE, and it was one of the big highlights of the study, it helped me a lot to understand the basics and I still rewatch the videos because there is so much to learn from it. You are able to ask questions in the course Discord-server which evolved to a big community of talented artists. I can recommend this course to everyone who wants to learn Houdini!

5 stars for the well structured learning experience. What I like about houdini-course.com is the detailed explanation of the fundamentals. There is a lot of useful content on the site. A great place to start learning Houdini. It will not be for everyone though. Maybe some people prefer a more project based learning. From what I watched so far (Basics section), the instructor knows his stuff and is able to explain in a clear way!

I made my mind after the trial. There you can see how different it is from other tutorials. A solid foundation is crucial for the aspiring artist, to be productive from the beginning. If you hit that high wall at the start, you feel stupid and your courage is dead. I'm already 40, and after multiple attempts, this course is my sanctuary without any mambo jambo.

Absolutely fantastic Houdini course. Christian Bohm is thoughtful in designing his content; meticulous in showing precisely how to do things without any hand-waving arguments; warns of pitfalls; emphasizes best methods and explains why; accessible. He takes a complex piece of software and breaks it down into logical sections so you can actually learn how things work rather than just replicating steps and following along. I've been focused elsewhere for the past several months, but definitely looking forward to re-subscribing to go through what is now upwards of 70 hours of content.

An absolutely fantastic website to get into the Software. Houdini can be very intimidating for new learners, because it has a unique approach to VFX and 3D Graphics and introduces concepts that can be quite confusing. Chris uses his extensive knowledge and experience to teach these concepts in a way that even a person, who is completely new to the software can learn it without being scared off. This is something regular tutorials on the internet can't do most of the time.
I would highly recommend this course, it's definitely worth the money!

I learned Houdini through this course, and I really liked it. It has a great structure, and you never feel overwhelmed. I never had any trouble understanding the material.

I particularly appreciate that the videos are regularly updated, and there's a clear indication when some videos become outdated. Additionally, when new versions of Houdini are released, new videos are made available quickly.

This is definitely the most thorough and well mantained course on Houdini. Constantly updated, every subject is explored extremely in depth, facing real world problems and trying to teach you the logic behind the software and its tools, its nodes and its specific workflow, more than just the software itself. Chris Bohm definitely knows what he's doing. Moreover, the subscribers are invited to a private group and have feedback by Chris (whenever he can) or their peers, troubleshooting and just participate in the community. Definitely recommed!

This is probably the best course available for Houdini.
It covers a wide range of topics al related to visual FX.
It's incredibly easy to understand and the creator is also very active on discord to answer any questions.

I've watched around 200 videos and he has 200 more that I could watch.

Chris has created a very well thought out course, gets straight to the point, the videos are concise and packed full of useful information. Id recommend it to anybody looking to get into houdini for vfx.

I studied 3D Animation and VFX on SAE Cologne. It was a great experience and this Site brought Most benefits to my Houdini skills. It guides you perfectly through the PRINCIPLES and add up on them. This is unique to my experience and differs from the rebuild follow along Tutorials out there.
Mr. Bohm is an experienced VFX Senior. He gives a great Support if you have questions and also has an exclusive member group, where you can Link up with others and grow together. The Videos are constantly updated and those Updates are marked, so you can see when theres an Update to a known chapter/Video.
Overall great experience!

These Houdini courses are a life saviour. They are rich in detail about many techniques and nodes you should use in Houdini.
The courses inform and guide you very well on how to properly use Houdini in a industry standard kind a way.
I personally don't like to work with Houdini, but during my studies, Bohm's lessons helped me quite a lot, due to his very clear instructions. I would totally recommend everyone to try Christian Bohm's Houdini courses, for everyone who tries to get into Houdini!

Great value and super informative, I can only say good things about this course. The community is fantastic as well.

Chris is an excellent teacher -- he goes much, much further than just "press this button" and really breaks down the inner workings of the systems of Houdini. It's targeted at beginners so advanced users may not find it too useful, but in my experience this is the best place to start your Houdini journey.

This should be a Six Star Review.. I am a user since the start.. Chris has some special and individual way to communicate and teach Houdini.. So everyone, who wants to learn this genius software should in my opinion at least start with this course.. It's great because its not overwhelming and focuses on "being not" a tutorial, but teaching at the same time in a speed and a depth, what makes it pretty unique.. On top comes a really great community on Discord, where everyone is welcome and gets his questions answered.. no matter if you are a Houdini Rookie, or 5 years in the industry.. That makes the individual learningpath for everyone usefull and reachable.. So this isn't only a review about the course itself, but also about Chris (the owner and lecturer), the community and my overall experience of anything related to the course.. I think every user of the website would agree with me, so ask them!

Chris provides a fantastic foundation to Houdini from the perspective of an FX TD with years of experience in the industry. Not enough Houdini tutorials spend time building an understanding of these fundamentals, and I'm now more confident moving forward with more advanced tutorials.

The only caveat is that this is strictly a fundamental FX course, and it would be nice to see the content expanded into other areas, or more advanced subjects - but this isn't reflected in the star rating as it's not a realistic to expect a single person to cover every subject, and maintain their own website.

Strongly recommended for anyone looking to get into Houdini!
