  1. Housing Development

Written by the company

HPP CARES CDE is a California nonprofit HUD Approved consumer credit, debt, and housing counseling agency. Our organization understands the challenges the average consumer faces when it comes to being overextended with financial constraints such as debt. Knowing this, we are committed to educating consumers with an emphasis on financial literacy. Our certified HUD Approved housing counselors provide personal assistance through budget counseling, housing counseling, and debt management strategies to lower interest rates and monthly payments. We can address the issues at hand by improving access to credit for low-to-moderate income and historically underserved communities (BIPOC) households through qualified programs that identify and support them. These include but are not limited to affordable housing, homeownership, small business technical assistance, financial literacy, and economic development, ultimately establishing the framework needed for sustaining communities, neighborhoods, and households. It is unfortunate that in 2022 essential skills regarding the management of household finances are lacking in K-12 education. A lack of financial literacy leads many consumers to learn these lessons the hard way, putting them in difficult positions that can be tough to recover from. To further address existing issues, our agency implements the latest multilingual technology bridging the divide to ensure consumers from any background have access to the resources and knowledge they need to make sound decisions and better their financial situations.

"Applicant" or "Awardee"?

Appreciate HPPCares hosting these meetings for applicants and their willingness to answer questions. It was still confusing, not knowing if I had been awarded the grant or if I'm on the waitlist.

Good Afternoon Ms. McMaster,

We spoke on the phone earlier regarding why your application was unfortunately not accepted. The reason is that you applied past HPP Cares Phase 2 Application Deadline. Even though your ADU Grant Application was submitted through our system, it was not accepted. As we discussed over the phone, I sent you our sign-on letter that is going to be sent to the CA Legislature (Assembly + Senate), and I hope that you decide to add your name. Moving forward, we have your information on file in our system and will keep you updated on any updates to the ADU Grant Program. We would appreciate it if you edited your review with us through Trustpilot. Thank you and have a blessed day.

Speaker was clear and informative!

Speaker was clear and informed all about program. Shortfalls of program and how HHP could help in almost every circumstance. Carefully explained the pitfalls and HHP work arounds on those pitfalls. Showed great patience with people that signed on without muting their Microphones! Looking at you Michael! Thanks for a great session and the information!

Excellent offerings and teachings but I…

Excellent offerings and teachings but I have not heard if I am approved and so am unable to plan and/or prep. A little more organization of consistent communication and/ or automated responses with info would improve experience

Happy Thanksgiving Sarah,

HPP Cares is genuinely grateful to hear that the teachings offered by Ms. Peoples have assisted you in your educational endeavors toward learning more about the ADU process. We also understand that our level of organization and communication through automated responses needs to improve vastly. That is something that we are currently working on implementing as soon as possible with a new security system and lines of communication through email and phone to assist you as the client better. As you can see, this means even working on holidays to ensure everyone feels accommodated. The nature of your situation demands that I speak with you directly, as I would not want to divulge sensitive information on a public platform where anyone can view it. I will contact you tomorrow by phone to discuss this. Thank you and have an excellent Thanksgiving holiday.

Katherine was great

Katherine was great. Her information was thorough and she patiently explained things on a webinar for over two hours.
It's hard though to ask questions in a forum of over 300 participants and reaching out to staff is almost impossible due to the volume. Some of the very personalized answers are tough to answer in such a forum. But, Katherine was/is amazing. Thank you.

HPP is overwhelmed with application

HPP is very overwhelmed with applications and severely understaffed. They cannot get back to all applicants and keep promising they will have all letters out in a week and keep failing to live up to their promises. They are failing to live up to anything they say. It sucks and I would advise other applicants to see out another nonprofit which there are many that seem to want to actually get people’s applications processed and have the people to do it. You call in and speak to someone who just started that day and as your speaking with them you hear another person speaking to them in the background telling them what to say which is nothing more than stating we will get back to you and never do via phone call or answering an email. Choose another group and see how these so called facilitators are supposed to perform.

Good Afternoon Frank,

I'm glad we spoke on the phone earlier today and discussed the reasoning as to why it was processed and approved in our system. Moving forward, I will provide you with a direct line of communication with myself. I hope this effort allows you to reconsider your review with our organization. If not, that's also ok. Thank you again and have an excellent holiday break.

Updated review 11/22/2023, Thank you HPP Cares for listening and making the necessary changes! Webinar attendees dos and don'ts required!

This rating is for the last webinar (my 3rd one) and not about the awesome non-profit HPP Cares. Mrs. Peoples wasn't able to go through her whole presentation and slides this time. She allowed questions and was interrupted excessively because of it. I think she might have to explain how zoom works and have rules of some sort. God bless her and her patience because I would have lost my cool.

Good Afternoon Ms. Rodriguez,

HPP Cares thanks you for your comments and concerns regarding the last zoom webinar you attended with Ms. Peoples. We understand the difficulties when numerous individuals attempt to bombard her with questions and comments that can disrupt the presentation experience. As of writing this response, our organization can guarantee that significant changes will be implemented to improve how Ms. Peoples will conduct the webinars moving forward. Attendees will be muted and can request to be unmuted when the Q/As occur at the end of the session. By taking this action, the overall experience will be a more informative one. Thank you again for your suggestions, and we hope you reconsider changing your review with our organization through Trustpilot.
