Worst first impression! Glad I am not investing with them TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Never got to the point of purchasing thank god. Website totally misleading - offering a live demo - which they do not. if you send in messages, there is no support -noone responds, no-one answers the phone. the two people who I have messaged with now - as this seems to be the only way to connect with them - seemed pretty worthless. if this is the service from day 1 I hate to think what it would be like if I purchased and moved forward with it! no thank you - first impressions count! this was a bad one.

Choose annual pricing carefully

Been a member for a number of years with HubStaff, and have paid annually.

Downsizing my team and wanting to cancel our membership; however - they're unwilling to offer any sort of refund.

I suggested that they simply run the math to assume we were paying the higher monthly rate for the year, and refund us the difference - that way we have earned no discount, and if anything - they come out ahead for having gotten paid early.

Nope - just flat out refusal. Shame - went from enjoying their software to feeling like a money grab.

Oh well - better software out there for cheaper anyway. I wouldn't come back nor choose them if I were starting fresh.
---------
Editing due to a response from HubStaff: As mentioned - I was asking you to run the math so that I would've just paid the non-discounted annual rate for the refund. The fact that you reject that is simply poor customer service.

Hi TJ!

Thanks for sharing your feedback and I’m sorry to hear about your experience.

Like most SaaS providers, we don’t offer prorated refunds on annual subscriptions. When you selected the yearly plan, it came with a discounted rate in exchange for a full-year commitment. Since the subscription is being canceled before the end of that period, we’re unable to issue a refund for the remaining time.

I completely understand that this may not be the outcome you were hoping for, especially after being with us for so long. We appreciate your time with Hubstaff and the support you’ve given us over the years.

If there’s anything else we can assist with or help clarify, please feel free to send us an email at support@hubstaff.com.

Hubstaff is a great tool for managing…

Hubstaff is a great tool for managing remote employees. Its milestone-based task organization makes it especially practical. One of its strongest features is the ability to indirectly monitor employees’ screens, which gives Hubstaff real power as a management tool. However, this same feature can also be seen as a downside. Employees need to be fully aware that their screens may be monitored, which could potentially lead to misunderstandings. That said, it’s important to note that this feature can easily be turned off — so it’s not a major issue.

Another point of criticism is the somewhat cluttered and overly complex menu navigation. While it offers a wide range of features that leave little to be desired, its complexity can be a bit overwhelming.

Full scam - Do not Use

Full scam - I paid for two seats thinking that I could have one employee and then another when I hire my next. When I hired the next one I tried to assign the seat. Turns out they dont tell you that you yourself occupy the other seat as a "Manager"

Reached out to my bank after I filed a chargeback and won. These people are scum. Do not do business with them. They also tried to charge my card for stuff I never signed up for.

I switched to trackabi and it is much better and more features without these guys hounding you for $$$

Thanks for your feedback, Matt! We’re sorry for any confusion.

We'd like to explain that with our Per-Seat subscription model, you’re billed for every member in your organization, regardless of whether they track time or have tracking disabled. This includes yourself as the account owner, as well as any administrators or managers.

Please note that even if you don’t personally need to track time, your account has full access to roles, permissions and organization-wide data, which is why it counts as a seat in your plan.

We hope this clarifies things! Let us know if you have any other questions.

Then to get my money, I had to venmo them a $70 tax, $250 for a COT (cost of transaction fee - only used by scammers) and then, after I did the wire transfer, they said I had to pay a $500 Reflection fee for it to land in my bank. Hi Hope!

We’re really sorry to hear about your experience. That definitely doesn’t sound right and we want to clarify that Hubstaff does not contact candidates through Facebook or other social media platforms.

As a general rule, no legitimate company will ask you to pay any fees upfront in order to receive a payment. If someone requests money from you in exchange for payment, it is likely a scam.

We strongly encourage reporting any suspicious activity to our support team so we can investigate further. Your security is important to us and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Hubstaff is a terrible company that allows freelancers to stalk clients

Hubstaff is a terrible company. I don't use their timer, I was only on their site to post my hiring ads for jobs.

1. They never respond to emails and if they do, it could take 3 weeks. It's not just me, I've seen people complaining on their Twitter account too.

2. They allow stalkers to stalk me. Freelancers who are low IQ and don't understand my hiring ads or don't like my low rate of pay because I'm a non profit have occasionally been reporting my hiring ads. You can see how stupid they are by their REASON for the report. Note: I've never worked with these people EVER. Hubstaff allows total strangers to report jobs. I think they even allow them to report the job if they aren't registered and if that's true, then they can see the same people are doing the reporting over & over again & allowing them to be a member/freelancer.

What does Hubstaff do about this? NOTHING.

3. Instead, Hubstaff blocks my account and doesn't allow me to respond back to freelancers who DO want my job, nor can I post more hiring ads. This has happened 3 times now even though I've DONE NOTHING WRONG.

4. The 2nd time it happened it was due to 2 Nigerians who didn't pass my screening process. They didn't like that I wouldn't hire them, so they attacked me in emails and then reported my hiring ads with lies. Then they started lying to other Nigerian freelancers telling them I don't hire anyone and don't apply to my jobs.

After over a WEEK (maybe 2) of trying to get someone at Hubstaff to respond to my emails, they said I should have reported the freelancers.

NO, I'm not a communist, nor am I am immature little baby. I'm a grown woman. I don't go around reporting every single person just because they have emotional issues, and since I can't see WHO reported me, I can't even defend myself.

Hubstaff said they would investigate it and NEVER GOT BACK TO ME.

5. The block on my account was eventually lifted due to the expiry date, but then after me posting jobs again, it happened AGAIN. The 2 Nigerian stalkers stalked me AGAIN, and reported my hiring ads WITHIN 1 1/2 DAYS. Hubstaff blocked me, someone lifted the block right away, then someone else blocked me again manually claiming I violated their T&C LOL Yeh right. I did NOTHING WRONG.

They just ignored me and obviously the person who lifted the block knew I did nothing wrong hence lifting the block right away before someone else over-rode it.

Hubstaff is clearly a very very evil company. I've asked to speak to the owners several times & they ignore me.

They support Nigerian stalkers and let me, the victim suffer. I've wasted tons of my time talking to Hubstaff and why I should have to defend myself against stalkers is RIDICULOUS.

I wrote them one last time saying I want their address to get my lawyer involved since they are allowing a crime to be committed online (it's called stalking) and they ignored me.

6. oh, and they ignored my BBB report too.

If you've had problems with them, you should report them to the BBB, better business bureau.

7. I reached out to one Nigerian freelancer I helped once get his laptop fixed hoping he would STOP THE CYBER STALKING from those Nigerian stalkers.

He wrote to Hubstaff (I didn't tell him to) to tell them I'm an honest person. The minute he gave them my email address, they ignored him too.

You can reach out if you want at ourfreesociety and you know the rest if you want my list of jobs.

Update on 02-06-25 after Hubstaff responded. It's the same generic message they always say, so don't trust anything they say.

They told me over & over again that they review the reports, but if they did, they would have seen I didn't do anything wrong & once my account was back, they wouldn't have manually blocked it again.

As for the delay in responding, I don't know, do you think ignoring 16 emails since October 2024 is ANY kind of service let alone slow service?

Nope, THEY ARE IGNORING ME and I'm not wasting more time on them. I lost at least 4-6 hours dealing with Hubstaff trying to get this sorted out and they STILL ignored me and allowed the Nigerian stalkers to stalk me. Note how they didn't say a word about me being stalked, only talked about the reports levied against me by my stalkers & how they allow them to roam free on their site while they block me, the client who hires freelancers.

Hey. I just want to ask if anybody here has tried receiving offensive names as aliases of their contractors using Hubstaff? We're very confused how this happened. We did our investigation and reached out to support. Big Brother is watching you!

In my opinion, this is not a time tracker, but a full-blown surveillance tool. After protests from the works council, Hubstaff was abolished in our company, partly because several employees had already threatened to resign. Any employer who uses this program should be ashamed of themselves. Apart from that, it is also sloppily programmed and disrupts the workflow. All in all, this program is a dystopia that I cannot recommend to anyone.

Hi Mohammed! Thank you for sending this feedback!

Protecting employee privacy is one of Hubstaff's cornerstones. Employees have complete control over when they want to track time. You will also receive a notification when you start tracking time and when Hubstaff takes screenshots. This means that the app only captures proof of engagement and work (screenshots, app and URL tracking, and activity rates) when your organization has these features turned on and you’re actively tracking time.

We hope this helps to explain and clarify! Thanks and have a lovely day!

I have been a subscriber to this program more than 1 year, and I noticed that every new feature requires an additional fee. The system is very frustrating. Every time there is an upgrade, the features available in my current package decrease [e.g. I cant do live chat anymore with the support as I have to upgared], forcing me to move to a higher-priced package. Usually, when a system is upgraded, you expect new features to be added for free or included in the current package. This approach is illogical and extremely frustrating, making it hard to recommend this system to others.

Hi, Deanna,

Thank you for your feedback!

I see that you have contacted our support team, and they were able to help you with all the inquiries you had about the plans and also the users disabled for tracking. They are also waiting for your reply about the subscription change you requested.

Please note that the option to downgrade was not available on your account because you were under one of our "Legacy" plans, which only loyal customers were allowed to stay. These plans are no longer active, therefore, the product needs to be changed on our end for the new plans to become available.

If you need anything else or have any doubts or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us; we will gladly assist you. Have a great day!

Shady billing/subscription flow UX (reimbursed)

Update (08/04/2024):

Hubstaff reached out to me to fully rectify the situation! The plan I paid for is fully re-instated and extra billing reimbursed.

While the UI is not fixed (no auto-renew cancellation button, tacit cancellation when selecting "Free"), it is a great product.

I cannot give a better rating until the billing UI is fixed.
---

Subscribed for a 1 year plan because I used this product at my previous company.

After 3 months, tried to cancel the auto-renewal (standard feature in most SaaS), but there is no option. The recommended hack is to remove your card so the renewal fails...

Instead, switched to the "Free" subscription. This apparently completely cancels your subscription (not very intuitive) and you end up with no subscription...

I now have 9 months of "credit" remaining (not visible in the platform). But Hubstaff refuses to re-instate my existing plan.

Instead, they would like me to purchase existing (more expensive) monthly or quarterly plans to consume the remaining months.

I was also charged an extra $24 while trying to sort the issue out and they refuse to refund this.

Based on the shady UX patterns that are implemented on the billing/subscription flows to obfuscate subscription cancellation and credit balance, I would recommend using another time tracker until these issues are fixed.

Having been a loyal Hubstaff user for…

Having been a loyal Hubstaff user for over four years, the recent experience has left me not just disappointed but deeply disillusioned. Despite initiating a dialogue about my concerns within the 30-day satisfaction guarantee window, my decision to cancel at 36 days was flatly ignored. This refusal to acknowledge my timely raised issues or to consider a pro-rated refund—when they themselves change policies to suit their interests—feels like a betrayal. It’s a stark reminder of how, when push comes to shove, their policies are seemingly designed to benefit them at the expense of loyal users. This isn’t just about policy rigidity; it’s about a fundamental lack of fairness and transparency in dealing with genuine customer concerns. For anyone considering Hubstaff, this has been my eye-opening experience: a company that prioritizes its own agenda over the fair treatment of its customers, leaving little room for meaningful dialogue or equitable resolution.
