Customer service was excellent, and they were very patient! I highly recommend them!

Good car and service

Our car got upgraded from a Dacia Duster to a Subaru Crosstrek. The fuel showed full at the start of our trip from the car rental (which was about a 7 minute drive from the airport) but dropped a bar within 2 minutes of leaving the car rental. I would have given 5 stars otherwise.

Had a good experience with Icerental( Northern Lights rental). Friendly staff attended to us. Quickly got our car. Rental company is rather near airport. Car works well. Recommend full insurance for peace of mind.

My only minor gripe is that the car rental is not located at the airport as I had thought. This resulted in being picked up from the airport, just be aware that if you are travelling as a group, only the driver can be collected from the airport. It will be a 20 minute round drive from being collected and then return to the airport and then the same when returning the vehicle. That being said it does work well just factor this into your travel plans.
The car was good and did a great job of getting us round Iceland and it did not miss a beat, we did a fair amount of travelling without any issues, I would recommend using them and an AWD Dacia Duster for 4 persons including luggage, I would recommend if you are not familiar with driving abroad consider requesting an automatic if they are available.

We rented a “Hybrid RAV4 Toyota or similar” for 12 days through Northbound and were assigned a car from IceRental4x4.

When we arrived at the airport we called them and sat where we were told to wait 15 minutes for the person to come get us and bring us to the rental place. We waited for 45 minutes and nobody came, so we called. We were met with a person who seemed to be mad at us for calling them, telling us they were there two minutes earlier and we weren’t there (we were) and that we would have to wait another 25 minutes and they hung up. Since we then thought we might have been in the wrong spot, we called back, they hung up again. So we panicked and looked at the Google reviews for IceRental4x4, well, turns out this happens a lot, and that we were in the right place. So we waited.

When the person finally came they ran through the terminal, a family with children was waiting with us was struggling to keep up because their children couldn’t run that fast. We finally got to the rental place and the person taking care of us seemed quite nice so we thought we were out of the woods. We were wrong.

We were handed the keys to a Ford Kuga and, even though our booking clearly stated we rented a hybrid, this car is has a Diesel engine. When we asked questions about hybrid cars they answered as if this was a Hybrid stating this car didn’t need any specific extra knowledge, a cable, or anything of that sort. We aren’t experts on hybrid cars, it was late, so we went with it. Of course no specific attention was needed for this car, because we weren’t given a hybrid.

Once our trip started the next day and we familiarised with the island (by the way: Iceland, AMAZING) and the car, we realised we hadn’t been given a hybrid at all, just a modern car. So we called IceRental4x4 and asked, and the person on the phone was nice, clearly stated they do not have any Toyota RAV4 hybrids on their fleet and that when we returned the car we would sort this all out. We weren’t in Reykjavik so this was fine with us. The trip was wonderful.

When we went to return the car we were told there was no manager to speak to us, we were treated in a patronising, dismissive, and rude way. Like somehow we were in the wrong. And we were told that diesel cars actually consume less gas than hybrid cars by a person who didn’t even look us in the eye when he spoke. Interrupted everything we said and then had the nerve to act bothered by us interrupting him back. We were told that we could email the next day and nothing further could be done by him. And because this place is a 15 minute car ride from the airport, and we had a plane to catch, we ended up just leaving with the next shuttle out.

The next day we emailed and waited, we had to follow up two times and call before anyone got back to us. They replied with a refund that was less than half of the price difference on their website between a hybrid car and a non hybrid car. We insisted, they gave us a little more money back. Mind you: they never asked if these refunds would be suitable, we did not agree to the amounts they proposed. They never actually apologised for how we were treated and for giving us a car different from what we paid for without even so much as letting us know. Before we got to Iceland we had asked by email about the specific car and were told there would be no downgrades. This was a downgrade. Not only engine wise, but also because the Ford Kuga is cheaper on the website than a Toyota RAV4. It is a Diesel that uses higher than average amounts of fuel compared to comparable cars as well.

After refunding us less than the difference in price between the two cars, without taking into consideration the fact that we then spent quite a lot more on diesel than we would have with a hybrid (fuel in Iceland is very expensive, diesel is even more), they said they could do nothing further for us.

We will be returning to Iceland, we will be telling everyone that will listen how bad this experience with this car rental was though.

Great service, no problem with car, friendly staff!

Very easy handling! The transfer from airport to station was neather complicated nor took it long. Staff was nice and giving back the car was very fast!
Improvement would be possible in the cars state. When I got it, oil and tire pressure light up.

Pick up and Drop off from the Airport is chaotic and slow.

They seemingly only have one van to drop off and pick up from the airport, we were left waiting for 40 mins each way and they did not have enough room in the van for the whole party. Meaning I had to return to the airport to pick up and try to find my wife child and all our luggage.

I would avoid this company and book with a company in the actual terminal in future

Nice and friendly staff, easy for rent

The company provided us with great tyres to help with our adventure and also allowed us a delay in dropping off. The van was great. Clean, comfortable and in very good condition. Would recommend.

A dependable car and excellent customer service at the rental office made for a good experience, though the airport pickup process could definitely be improved.

We hired a car by 4x4 icerental.
We booked an opel crossland. Spacieus enough for 2 And suitcases.
With the unexpected heavy snowfall we felt save in the car and it felt as if the car would not let us down.
Not 5 but 4 stars: it took very long to wait at the airport for the shuttle. >40 min

We booked a Dacia Duster, the car was in very good conditions and tires seems just been changed for winter, so new. I suggest a diesel car as it consumes less (my cousin receive a gas one and he need to stop and refuel more time than me.
The only thing to improve is that at the arrival, we had to wait too much.
However I can suggest you this rental car. We issued platinum insurance.

Perfect Car rental!

Amazing company! Great service, very nice and professional. Free shuttle bus that picks you up from the airport which is a ton of help! The car had no issues and everything went as planned. Would definitely recommend!

They gave us a better car than we had booked before with the better wheels!!! Thank you very much for that because we believe we could do the trip safely across the snow, the ice and then the return to the airport in the middle of the snow storm. With another company we hadn’t had that winter’s wheels and for sure we could not finish our trip doing everything planned.
Also, we could take the fully insured cheapest than other companies and before our arrival to the airport.

The only thing they would improve is the airport pick up, we had to phone 3 times to the company to discover the meeting point.

The staff were great, the price reasonable and the car was safe for driving on snowy roads. It would be helpful, and reduce stress, if the airport pickup was explained further in the email - e.g. that the pick up might take up to 30 (not 10-15) minutes and to wait at the ATM.
