Icerental 4x4 is an innovative car rental company specializing in 4x4 vehicles in Iceland. Founded in 2013, our family-owned business began with only 10 cars. Since then, Icerental 4x4 has grown a lot, with a big rental office near the Keflavik International Airport, where we offer a wide range of vehicles in all sizes and model years. Our passion is 4x4, and our fleet is based on quality 4x4 cars. However, we also provide vans and smaller vehicles to fulfill all your transportation needs while visiting Iceland. In 2014 we started with our Camper Jeep, offering Jeeps to camp in while exploring the highlands. This idea evolved into Roof Tent campers, and in 2017, we introduced our Roof Tent vehicles in various sizes. These are the perfect way to explore Iceland during the summertime—our 4x4 Roof Tent vehicles allow you to see the highlands and Iceland’s untouched nature. We at Icerental 4x4 are committed to offering the best quality 4x4 vehicles at reasonable rates. We believe in personal service based on building relationships with our customers.

We rented a motorhome and a máximum platinum insurance, althought it does not incluye all problems you may have. The motorhome was right (some little issues) and the relationship with the company was fluent.
The worst was that they didnt arrive to pick us at night and had to wait almost an hour.
The best, the vehicle didnt give any problem and the final revisión was everything ok.
The first camper had mechanical problems. Icerental provided us another one, even we were on the east coast at that time.
Check in was a bit long, with many points to check (bumps, fuel, gaz, etc.). On the other side, chek took only a few minutes.
What a horrible experience here.
We booked a car, but were delayed by one day due to bad weather. Despite our calls and emails to inform them, they gave away our car without any warning or alternative solution. When we arrived, there was no willingness to help us, no compensation offered, not even a simple apology.
Eventually, two days later, we were able to rent a car after all. The car itself was fine, but we also rented a kitchen box, which turned out to be very poorly equipped – for the price they charge, you can easily buy better and cheaper supplies yourself.
The airport pick-up is also unreliable. Even if you agree on a specific time, they let you wait or can't take you because the car is full. That's just bad planning.
Overall: Extremely unprofessional and disappointing service.

The camper is in terrible condition, very old, dirty, and has various damage: fuel cap, manual lock, curtains, refrigerator handle, broken waste water tank, etc.
I purchased full coverage against any damage, but unfortunately, upon return, they extorted me, demanding an extra €830 for a door that had blown open in the wind. When I protested, they said, "Your country is Italy, here you are in Iceland, and we do as we say..." and they told me to go to hell in Italian!
ICERENTAL 4X4 NOT RECOMMENDED
Great experience with Icerental 4x4!!!
We rented a car for a roadtrip. Sadly our rooftent got broken on the way... However the assistance was so helpful and fast, that we could have continue on our way real quick! Thanks for human attitude.
K.
From the Airport and back to it was good. Fast Service to get the car. Car was also good to drive, we didnt have problems.
Do yourself a favour and avoid these people
We had a great shuttle experience. Back and forth it was smooth, a friendly driver and an acceptable waiting time.
The car itself was clean and had no issues.
The negative points I read upfront were nowhere to be seen in my experience.
Be wise and take the platinum insurance. Even if you stay on route 1, the are stones on the road that can cause damage. Iceland is a country with special conditions so in each case you will need the best insurance there is.
We will come back to Iceland and to Icerental 4x4.
Check out and back in were efficient; airport service was acceptable. The car itself was old (295000km), noisy, gear box was crunchy, steering was noisy at full lock, and the (new) tyres were over inflated to the point that the warning light came on. It was reliable enough for our trip but not a great car, unfortunately.
Very bad fleet condition. Some of the cars have >350.000km and are pretty worn and in very bad overall shape. We din‘t felt save with our car and asked for another one. But the employees told us, if there is nothing broken, we cannot get another car.
We‘ve had a Suzuki Vitara with a rooftent. The car was approx. 15 years old and had 390 thousand kilometers on the odometer. It was in horrible condition. The doors were not closing and half of the buttons didn‘t work. The rooftent had holes, was leaking and rusty. Luckily, we didn’t had a technical breakdown during out trip. But this was probably pure luck.
In our opinion, it is not worth any money. Definitely no recommendation! It seems like they have a few newer cars, but don‘t care about the others.
Shuttle was hard to locate at first, but the whole experience was much more pleasant than what the in-airport rental places looked like. Total chaos. But Icerental 4x4 was quick and easy once the shuttle driver arrived.
We had a good car (fia tipo unleaded), all good, running well. We have done 3000 Km in 10 days without any issue. The team was very helpful : we returned the car a little bit late for our flight and the team was very nice and managed to get a schuttle for us very quickly.
Excellent service, good communication, pick up and drop off on time and efficient, even at 4am! Camper van was in good condition and well equipped.
Everything perfect, a very good rental company.
They help us also in difficult situation.
The car was in good condition, no problems while driving. The staff was very efficient and uncomplicated when receiving and returning the car.
I rented a car in Icerental 4x4 unfortunately the experience was very negative. They gave me a 2014 vehicle with more than 220,000 km, in terrible mechanical and aesthetic condition. The car had obvious issues and was clearly not safe for long-distance driving in Iceland.
I asked to change the car, but was told that “it was the only one available”, leaving me with no alternatives. This shows a clear lack of professionalism and responsibility from the company.
I recommend future travelers to be very careful when booking with this company:
Always check the age and mileage of the vehicle before accepting it.
In Iceland, having a reliable car is essential, especially for long drives and challenging roads. This experience left me very disappointed and with the feeling of being misled.

We had a save trip around Iceland with our Suzuki Vitara. Our car had clearly traces of use. But the biggest issue was that our had issues with warnings which deactivated the cruise control. Next to that we got a warning about oil refresh. Via the chatbot and whatsapp we could contact the car support team.
