Poor service from Ignite my Boiler
In March 2021, our old boiler died. Pritesh Patel (Ignite) made a good impression when quoting for a new one; we understood he'd be personally supervising the works. He recommended a new Vaillant ecoTEC condensing boiler as more efficient and quieter than the old one.
The quote wasn't cheap, but we read some stellar reviews on Ignite's website.
Pritesh brought two workmen for the installation. Then he left. They were reluctant to talk to us. We expected Pritesh to check their progress regularly but he didn't. Whenever we asked the workmen about any details or information, they'd say “talk to Pritesh - we only answer to him.” So we had to ring Pritesh; he was not happy & told us not to get involved: “everything will be fine”.
However it was clear we had to stay vigilant: e.g. the workmen flooded our floor, and only our noticing and mopping it prevented a problem. While putting new radiator brackets on a cavity wall, and removing the old ones, they left holes in the wall. Only thanks to our being present at that moment did they allow us to fill the holes.
The work was completed hastily. After the team left, we saw the condensate filter pipe dangling out through a crudely cut hole in our wall, potentially breaching our damp proof course. Our Property Services Manager ordered an urgent re-fixing of the pipe and insulating the hole, which Pritesh came and did promptly.
Then, in order to maintain our 8-year Vaillant warranty, we need an annual service. Ignite originally quoted £80 + VAT for the following year, as a “customer rate”. Then in 2022, we got a quote for £140 + VAT with no explanation. We hired another Vaillant accredited company; their engineer found key details missing in the warranty documents. Pritesh had to return to complete them, so the warranty was valid.
The boiler was not as quiet and the gas savings were not as we hoped, but we did not have a comparison.
Then in January 2023, less than 2 years after the installation, the boiler blew the fuses while in holiday mode. We called in Vaillant. They changed two circuit boards. Their report said that the installation was defective on several counts, and needed to be re-wired. Our boiler was being strained and was potentially aging prematurely due to the wrong wiring, and wasting gas. It could trip the fuse again.
We contacted Pritesh and he sent us a quote for £360 + VAT to re-wire, and install a new wiring centre. This was confusing as we thought we already had one. He tried for three weeks to get us to pay for the remedial works.
As we were no longer covered by the warranty, we insisted the repair be done urgently in line with Vaillant’s recommendations. Eventually, Pritesh rewired the boiler without further charge. While he was here, he said the new wiring centre was just a “recommendation” to make any work easier for engineers. - So it wasn't needed, we heard.
The boiler is quiet now and its cupboard not as hot. We noticed we are saving gas when the boiler is “resting” - finally Pritesh's initial promise has been fulfilled.
We might be the unlucky ones, but would like to share our disappointing experience to alert others.
