Beware of these crooks and unethical tactics

Purchased a policy, correct details entered on the comparison website and then after purchasing the policy to be told the information I shared with RAC did not match Cue (who the check your details with). Both the details I gave on the comparison website and what Cue came back with were correct, however, RAC came back to say what I declared was incorrect. To make matters worse I was asked to pay £300 extra to continue my policy.

The anomaly was Cue said I was not at fault but the information on your system said I was for an accident I declared. Surely this should not result to a increase in premium but a reduction. Clear RAC is not set up properly with comparison websites to populate the information to your platform (with correct details) with websites like Confused.com, Money Supermarket or Compare the Market. Utter disappointment and unethical practice. Manage to get a better policy with Admiral with add on's I did not have with RAC at a better price. Shame because you lost a customer due to your poor IT systems.

Not very good.

Punished with a 20GBP fee for their lack of functionality on the website. Not to mention raising premium despite no claims for another year.
Will look at not renewing with them next year.

Hassle-free process!

I got my home insurance from this company last December. Fast forward to recently when my watch broke. I was kinda worried about the whole claim thing, but these guys were so great! Super easy to reach out to. Just two weeks, and everything was sorted with the help of the repair shop's documents.

I've seen a bunch of not-so-happy reviews about them, which honestly surprises me given how smooth my experience was. Just thought I'd drop in my two cents and share some positive vibes.

Pity we can't give zero stars

Again we are not allowed to give zero stars or negative stars which I think deserves a change to your system. I have just received my house renewal with a 40% increase; we have had no changes or claims, everything is exactly the same as last year, except the price! I phoned to find out if it was a mistake or something they could do but no, the agent said basically that's it, take it or leave it.

I have noticed (on Trust Pilot) if a company really cares about customer services they at least take the time to answer peoples complaints or issues but RAC have not bothered at all, which tells me a lot. I will not be using them again for anything

RAC insurance is just a front for other insurance companies. They are basically just a broker for Markerstudy who are hopeless. You will be hanging on for someone to answer the phone for hours and, of course, you can't email them.

Same problem as the other people

Same problem as the other people, I am very embarrassed by their lack of consideration. This insurer is not honest and fortunately I realized this before I suffered any damage... AVOID

Worst company I've ever insured with, buyer beware!

Unbelievable customer service, currently have a claim running through their underwriter Marker Study, who are equally as shocking(Have reviewed them on here too).

Complained to the RAC that I am being totally ignored by their underwriter and have made themselves uncontactable. They tried to connect me to them directly was on hold for over an hour and then cut off.
So I then tried RAC online chat, all the handler did was make excuses for them and told me to "keep trying". Bearing in mind I've sent 3 emails that have all been ignored spent a collective of about 6 hours waiting in queues for the online chat only to be dissconented and probably about 4 hours on hold trying to get through on the phone.
I'm now in the process of finding out what my legal options are. Car was taken away over 3 weeks ago and have been waiting for a call regarding settlement for almost 2 weeks now.
Will never insure with the RAC again. I've been a breakdown member for more than 12 years and will be cancelling my membership and joining the AA next year.
UPDATE 9 WEEKS AND CLAIM STILL NOT PAID!

BEWARE HIDDEN CHARGES

Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to cancel a car insurance policy I had taken out with RAC within a few days. The policy cover had not even commenced as I had taken it out in advance. They deducted £25 from my refund as an arrangement fee.

Disgusting Company

I sold my car 3 months after taking out a policy with RAC Insurance. Total annual cost £279.00. Along with the fee for 3 months insurance, which I have no problem with, they charged me a £55.00 Cancellation Fee which I find disgusting. I will never use RAC insurance again. I was told on the phone that "our terms of cancellation are written in our documentation". Yes, they are but few people plan on cancelling car insurance. RAC has lost my other car insurance plus breakdown. Yes, RAC. They are MY terms and conditions!

Please do not take insurance out with…

Please do not take insurance out with the Rac !
1. Rac are just a broker …they pass on the insurance to Ageus. It’s quicker , easier and cheaper to buy direct from Ageus.
2. I had a claim issue which the Rac showed no interest in whatsoever ! They say it’s nothing to do with them !
3. I cancelled my insurance 6 months ago and the Rac have passed on my non existent debt to a debt collection agency . After a further 6 months of constant hassle and aggravation the debt collection agency have just confirmed the Rac have made a mistake !!!
Rac recovery very good …Rac insurance a total disaster. Steer clear

Shockingly inflexible and send very intimidating emails to demand payment

I received a very threatening email when the payment on my 85-year-old mother's insurance was declined because of the very recent expiry of her debit card. I spent a long time texting the call service, then waited 15 minutes to get through on the phone. I wanted to pay the balance on her behalf to save her the worry, as she is a full-time carer for my father. Although the call centre handler was very polite, she told me that there was nothing she could do and that I would have to pay the £20 surcharge, which I feel is excessive. I have therefore not made any payment, and have now arranged insurance through One Call Insurance (recommended through Compare the Market) at a much cheaper premium. I understand that the RAC will now request that I pay a cancellation charge of £35, which I also feel is excessive and which I have no intention of paying.

All in all, shockingly inflexible service; I would not advise anyone to take out insurance through the RAC

Yet another ripoff - £25 to change my number plate and 2 days later £55 to cancel the insurance policy. That's nearly half my year's premiums in one hit just to change the registration, which I did online, and then to cancel the insurance, after being on hold for 30 mts. would never use them again.

Charge for address change

Having just moved house, which is one of the most stressful events. Of the 20 or so companies we have had to contact to change address, the RAC is the only company that thinks a charge of £25 to do this is acceptable. Unbelievable.

not happy that i have to phone up and listen to 5 minutes worth of recorded messages in order to tell them to NOT to automatically renew my policy (when its an online managed policy) when the renewal price is massively higher than the previous one.

If I'm presented with an online option of renew policy now yes/no then the no should actually do something particularly when not hitting yes also results in the same as hitting yes. In all honesty what is the point of the yes/no option?

If I had the option of no stars

If I had the option of no stars, this is what I would have given. Someone drove into us nearly 6 weeks ago. We phoned RAC immediately and spent an hour on the phone giving all the relevant details. To this day the only contact we have had is the three times we have had to call them to find out what is happening with our claim. We have never received the wellbeing calls we were promised either to check that the passengers (3 of whom were children) were ok. Shockingly bad service! Avoid completely!

Highway Robbery....Watch our for the small print.

Generally as an insurer they are pretty competitive, however its the add-ons where they get you! Not only that I cancelled my insurance with them due to selling the vehicle and they wanted to charge me £55 for the privilege of cancelling it (Which I will not be paying!)... Its disappointing to see a recognised UK company behaving like this and taking advantage, and certainly would not use them again, even if they are competitive.

Shockingly poor customer service

Shockingly poor customer service. I used RAC to insure my ‘new’ 2019 registered car which was purchased May 2021 and which was unfortunately written off due to a traffic incident that is still under investigation. Thirty five years of driving with zero own fault incidents or claims. Clean driving licence and 12 years protected no claims discount and treated by RACI following an extremely upsetting incident like the lowest form of criminal.
The follow up and support was non existent. All the annual cover (paid in full when purchased) that was left on the policy - ten months- negated and lost even though the incident has not been fully investigated and resolved. The price quoted to take out cover on a different car four times higher! Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Disgraceful conduct all round. The case has now been referred to the IFOS for properly independent investigation and resolution. AVOID.
