Extremely bad service
Some staff are extremely rude. The train can be in front of you and they won’t let you on even if it’s two minutes till it’s leaving. You book a seat for no reason as the seat is always taken (the people who take the seats have pre booked also). They really need to re-think this service.
Not even a service really. Can’t be relied on
I can’t understand how as a country we can accept the service of Irish rail. Their app doesn’t have accurate live information. City Mapper has the actual live info. A third party app. Delays everyday. Due to operational issues apparently. Whatever that means. Over crowded trains. And nobody accountable.
First class rip off
Paid for first class as my husband out of hospital. Absolutely nothing different only a lamp stuck to table. The service guy with grumpy head just cane and checked your ticket. If you wanted a coffee, we had to go find the trolly at other end of train. Disgraceful go take extra money for this. I will never book first class again.
Worst attention for an expensive ticket
Tickets only obtained by machines. Nobody was willing to help when we had issues with the machine and the payment, not even in the information office saying that wasn't a ticket office.
Also, they delete the purchase of tickets online one hour before the departure so even if there is space in the train you can't book online with discounts they only offer online. So you are obliged to buy at the machines. Same with the buses, all Irish transportation is really outdated, never on time and really expensive for the service they offer.
Horrible experience
Train from portlaoise to cork. Waiting room freezing. No toilet. 1 toilet on the other side of the tracks filthy. Very hard to find my carriage. Actually a lot of people found this difficult. No clear signage. Booked my ticket and seat in advance. Seat taken and people wouldn't move saying they were told that at the station they could sit where they wanted as no allocated seats. My booking was written up over the seat. No staff to help. I had to move 3 times because of people getting on for their Booked seat. Because I have respect for others I moved each time. People have this sense of entitlement that goes far beyond belief. Horrible experience
Bad service/ staff who could not care less
Took the train from Portlaoise to Dublin and back. Firstly there was only one ticket machine working at Portlaoise so a huge queue at it - then on the return trip from heuston, my valid return ticket would not work in the entry barrier. Around 10 people had the same issue - and no train staff in sight to let anyone through. No apologies from Irish rail when staff eventually showed up - people were in danger of missing their trains as it took more than 10 mins of waiting at the barrier before anyone showed up. The entry barriers are obviously faulty.
The guy at the stile om Sunday Dec 21…
The guy at the stile om Sunday Dec 21 at 1pm was so helpful to my elderly Mom getting on to Dublin train, he is a credit to his job.
Booked two reserved seats (C29 & C30)…
Booked two reserved seats (C29 & C30) from Galway to Limerick two weeks in advance. Train arrived completely full and our seats were already taken. No conductor onboard to help and the passengers in our seats refused to move.
I am one month post ACL reconstruction and meniscus surgery, and was forced to stand for most of the journey in significant pain. Absolutely unacceptable when seats are booked and paid for.
Total lack of organisation, staff presence, and basic customer care. Complete disgrace.
Awful experience
We took the train Newbridge to Portarlington yesterday. We had a really awful experience as a family with a ticket inspector whom says he more than a inspector. He was rude and intimidating from sitting down on the train. He asked for the tickets which we found for three of us we had difficulty finding the other booking on my email and he was aggressive saying we must have cancelled the booking and got a refund. I was very stressed trying to locate the second booking as he wanted my 17 year old niece's id to fine us. After locating the tickets he was still Suggesting to display her id, which we wouldn't usually carry but eventually we could display after finding on my phone. I asked for his name to leave a complaint but said he did not have to. During this another worker was calling him away as he knew he was very much in the wrong. Really awful experience and upset kids. Not acceptable behaviour. Customer service is very important while working with the public
Overcrowded bedlum
Travelled the Cork dublin return last weekend train was packed. Had seats booked luckily. Train was ontime girl checking tickets very helpful and pleasant. Only thing was train stopped way outside station long walk to the station itself for some people. Coming home the train was 2 carriages short due to technical issues. That meant over 100 people had no seats. Absolute bedlam ensued. Not an Irish rail employee to be found. Dangerous to have people standing in aisles and sitting on floors. Can't understand why they are allowed to travel with such overcrowding. Wheres health and safety? Train was lovely and warm and ran ontime
Filthy seat trays
Cork - Dublin service
Filthy train, the lack of proper cleaning is appalling. The seat trays in particular are disgusting, grime, crumbs, hair all evident.
Avoid
Flexible ticket is not flexible at all. Major delays during both outbound and return and the journey was disastrous. On top just because I was struggling to get to the Heuston station due to heavy traffic on time by the bus in Dublin
Had to pay €15 even with the leap card. Won't recommend using this at all.
THEY ARE A COMPLETY DISGRACE
THEY ARE A COMPLETY DISGRACE. I lost my connection to belfast from dublin staring from Cork because the last 3 trains routes never happened so my train was fully packed with no seats to seat down and it passed by Limerick and it was delayed for 55' and not 60' as they say to give me a full refund and I had to pay extra for a bus from Dublin to belfast and they didn't refund me for that. I COULE BE HOMELESS IS DUBLIN FOR A NIGHT IF THERE WERE NO LATE BUSSES. FREAKING JOKE. They couldn't even call from the train to the station to inform that there were people traveling to Belfast. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OF THEM. TAKE THE BUS. THE BUS IS ALWAYS GUARANTEED
How come?
How come?
How to rely on public transport?
No rain, no frost, no traffic and still they are delayed?
Just Ridiculous
Today morning Adamstown to Grand Canal Dock

Disappointed there was no food or drink…
Disappointed there was no food or drink on the train. Killarney to dublin at 11.40 on a Friday travelling for work First class promised food available. Not worth it.
The train always stops before clontarf…
The train always stops before clontarf road and stays there for about 10 minutes so the drivers can have a chat delaying everyone
Genuinely sold me non existent seats
Genuinely sold me non existent seats
Specifically had seats in the A wagon
When I went inside my seat number genuinely just didn't exist.
This happened twice on the same day, once in the morning, and the evening
A disgrace.
A disgrace.
Non existent money for value. The commuter train has always some reason to not work as expected.
Irish Rail is a cancer for this country
Avoid where possible
Not once not twice, continuous disruptions, cancellations and nobody does anything because it is a state farm. You cannot plan work, sightseeing, basically nothing by counting on them. They keep apologizing but for years nothing changes. Should be privatized asap
Disaster
Disaster. Always delays, always late but never late to charge you overpriced tickets. Disappointing. Don’t use it
