I had turf from Ivinghoe turf and I hired a guy to lay the turf and watered the turf and found it was full of plastic mess and now it's just clumps of grass it's the worst turf ever I would not recommend them to get turf from

Poor quality with lots of stones

Poor quality with lots of stones. Frustrating having spent so much time prepping and removing them prior to laying. Patchy with the plastic mesh showing places. I watered and treated it well but 10 months on and the lawn Is in dreadful state and really lumpy all over. Really disappointed! I laid turf so as not to have to seed but now looks like I will after all. Contacted them and they said if I was near I could pop in for some seed but they wouldn’t send me any. I wish I had gone elsewhere as I had put a lot of work into prepping the garden and this has ruined it. I would not use them again or recommend I’m afraid.

Ridiculous Delivery Costs

I have purchased from Ivinghoe Turf on a number of occasions and I must agree that the screened topsoil is not great (clay and building fragments, etc), but ok for us as we have used it to raise the level in paddocks so not for normal lawn.
My issue is their total rip-off delivery costs. I wanted to order 12 (yes 12) bulk bags of 20mm gravel.
I accepted that the cost of £576 for the gravel inc VAT was c£70 more than Wickes or B&Q, but I was happy to pay more to help out a local business.
What is wanted them to look at was the £196 delivery charge. The total return journey would be <10 miles from their site, yet despite this being a 'full load' there wasnt any chance of any sort of cost reduction. Not even £20 (which I would have accepted).
Seemingly, the cost of fuel and the driver was so great that their 'salesperson' felt that it was better to not get any form of sale than it was to make one with a £20 discount (total cost would have been £770 delivered vs £516 from B&Q). The argument was that if they delivered 12 bags to me then they couldnt get any more onto the lorry so couldnt deliver to others and that cost them money!?! I did try to reason that 1x 12 bag delivery to a single site was going to take far less time than 12x 1 bag deliveries to lots of sites but, no, I was wrong and was told 'good luck' with buying from Wickes (not sure I need luck, they are quite good with their deliveries!!)
I dont mind paying a bit more for local businesses and for the convenience of having the bags dropped where I need them, but I cant justify over £250 (nearly 50%) more than local builders merchants for exactly the same product.
This mentality is just so wrong and for small businesses in rural areas, disenfranchising local customers is pretty daft, especially when they have the need for more products in the future, as one lost sale is actually now many lost sales!

Top for quality and service

I ordered 70 rolls of turf. This came on 2 pallets and the top 3 rows of each pallet were perfect. My lawn almost looks artificial its so green! But the last row of one of the pallets was somewhat compressed and discoloured so I contacted Ivinghoe turf to express my concern. They sent me 10 new rolls which arrived today and the quality is top rate. I am feeling a little guilty as the 10 rolls that I complained about have come back to life somewhat! I have used a few local suppliers and these guys are my supplier of choice for quality and service. And thanks to Mary in the sales office for her refreshing "customer is always right" attitude. I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to do so on this occasion. Kind regards Rob

More than a month from my last review I…

More than a month from my last review I have had no reply to my email complaint. The "so called Blended topsoil" has been sown, watered, fertilised but so far not even a Dandelion. I visited the supplier anonymously to see if they supplied me the wrong stuff and they showed me thousands of tons of the same stuff with not even 1 weed in it. All the plants I bought died and I have paid to have it removed. Just buy bricklayers sand from a DIY store, it will be way better than this stuff.

Avoid this company

I brought 2 bulk bags of the more expensive 'blended' topsoil, i was told i would be perfect for sowing need seed. It is utter rubbish, the worst quality soil i've ever seen. This crap is sold as the best quality they have, it completly ruined my lawn AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS, THEY ARE RIPPING EVERYONE OFF.

Soil ordered was actually dangerous

Will not be using again or recommending. We received delivery of topsoil and as mentioned on their website it did contain traces of glass and metal. What the website fails to state is that the metal is actually nails and screws which in some cases were at least 2-3inches long and there is so much glass in it that what I have got is actually unsafe for children and I spent hours trying to remove as much as I could. If I had known how bad the quality was then I would never have ordered it. Steer clear if you have small children or value your health.

Be aware!

Be aware! once you have paid all customer service is forgotten. I ordered topsoil from Ivinghoe Turf. The driver did not knock on my door he just dumped the bags on my front drive, they needed to be in the back which is easily access by a side road. One bag had about 4" less in than the other, just on a quick look a lot of bits of brick in the soil. I phoned and spoke to a gentleman who said he would ring the driver and come back to me, he didn't bother to ring me back. Certainly wouldn't use for my turf.

Very very poor turf.

I was advised that their best rurf had been contaminated with another grass, when I asked about the impact of this they said others had been happy with the quality. Well 3 months on and the lawn looks like a field...... the slow growing best turf is interspace with very fast growing other tuft, what a mess. It was dry and stoney when delivered but after I complained the company assured me that it would grow - well it has - into something horrible. I expect I will now have to lift the whole thing next year and replace it. The turf they sold me is not fit for purpose. Go somewhere else for your tuft. It's going to cost me a lot of money to start again.

Do not buy from this company

Turf was delivered over 4 hours after I was advised it would arrive. Turfs were dry as a bone and full of stones and looked poor. Even the driver rolled his eyes at the quality. I immediately called the company and was told very clearly that they would take the turf back if I was unhappy but if they felt it was ok (which they would) I would not get any of my £158 back. I was forced to take the turf as would not risk losing my money. I am now worried my lawn will look a mess and will have very sharp stones sticking through as a result. In summary unless you are happy to accept whatever poor turf they deliver then do yourself a favour and get from somewhere else. Otherwise good luck because their customer service will not help you if you have a problem.

Delighted with my new garden turf

Just had my turf delivered to me just in time for the summer. The service from Ivinghoe Turf was excellent and the turf is superb. I am now the envy of all my neighbours. Would highly recommend buying turf from here.
