Time wasting, incompetent, weak leadership
In 34 years of business only three suppliers stick in my mind as being truly awful, J C Payne being one of them. Throughout the whole experience I started to doubt whether J C Payne had any intention of completing the work I had paid for.
I paid to have a shutter on one of my lorries replaced. After weeks of zero communication and failed promises to return my calls, an appointment was made so I took the vehicle off road in preparation. However, when the fitter arrived he announced they'd ordered the wrong size shutter, so that wasted appointment cost me £937 in lost earnings.
Then more delays and zero communication until another appointment was eventually made.
That appointment was cancelled by J C Payne and they didn't bother to tell me, meaning that once again they'd taken one of my lorries off the road and lost me another £937.
Their rep told me the appointment had been arranged by their manager and he hadn't put it on the computer properly, so next time they'd "get one of the girls to organise the appointment to make sure it's done properly."
The third appointment day arrived, and a sulky chap who was permanently playing with his phone arrived, and refused to do the job unless I lent him one of my office girls to help him, which I obviously couldn't do. Apparently it's a two person job and despite you paying them to do the work, you're expected to spend half a day helping them. Another £937 lost.
So we ended up having a fourth visit where the shutter was finally fitted, although the rubber water seal fell out within 20 minutes of the fitters leaving, then a bolt fell out and blocked the shutter from moving.
4 x £937 = £3748 lost by J C Payne.
Our lorries perform specialised work and there are no hire vehicles to replace them when they are off road.
Often, the measure of a business can be determined by their attitude to any mistakes they've made. Seeing as it took three of their time wasting and expensive mistakes before I was irritated enough to threaten legal action, you'd imagine they'd do me the basic courtesy of offering an apology or explanation for why they keep letting their customers down, but no, all you'll get is more costly and time wasting mistakes.
So after taking one of my lorries off the road and losing significant income for a total of four days due to J C Payne's monumental incompetence, I recommend Tail Lift Services as a professional and trustworthy alternative.
