Cleanliness and hygiene at the gym have…
Cleanliness and hygiene at the gym have been consistently poor. The sanitizer sprays are frequently empty for long periods, and even the bathroom soap is often not refilled. In addition, the gym smells very bad, especially in the changing/clothes areas and the class rooms, where there seems to be little to no proper ventilation. The air feels heavy and unpleasant, and at times it has even made me feel sick. Improving cleanliness, ventilation, and overall hygiene standards would create a much healthier environment for members.
I would pay 10 euro more and go to better gym.
This is not the gym I thought it would…
This is not the gym I thought it would be! From the get-go, it was a very problematic and insufferable experience. The employees are unprofessional, racist, and hate working there! The culture is of microaggressions, an indifferent work ethic, selective racial preference, and they don't HIDE IT. Today was the last straw, and I am SICK of these aggressive WHITE women attacking people of color, because they GET CALLED OUT for such deplorable behavior! The problem with this GYM isn't that it's old, run-down, and machines that don't work, but also equipment that is falling apart, but the selective aspect of ENFORCING club rules! I've seen WHITE MEN walk around without shirts, and nothing is said, YET a person of color does it, and they are on it like flies on sh!t. This is what led to the confrontation when I called out the MACRO-aggressive, racist customer service of the front desk employee! Which led to the VERY BELLIGERENT AND AGGRESSIVE WHITE WOMAN attacking me for calling out the employee for his racist actions! TAKE THIS AS WHAT IT IS, the frustration of a person who experienced these pervasive, detrimental actions by people who have no sense of duty for a welcoming experience to an OVERPRICED PICK ME GYM. So, Drew Mullen, teach your employees not to be racist.
I’m sick of the constant problems
I’ve been coming here for years but these are problems that occur constant and I’m really getting sick of it. Half the machines are broken at all times, takes forever for them to find someone to fix them, when the manager isn’t in, there’s no soap, the waters cold most of the times or not even on. I’m especially bothered about the machines. U can’t rely on a routine u have, because tomorrow and for the next month or two, the machines u need aren’t working and they don’t do shit about it. I’ve had many friends or people I’ve been seeing here since I started a couple years ago, many left because they just were done with this place. For the money, this should NOT be happening. I have a hard time leaving since I’ve been coming here for a long time and I made some good friends, but there’s only so much one can take and I’m truly disappointed.

Simply a disgusting gym with bunch of disgusting members who don't know how to clean after themselves.
Today in the morning even the lockers were dirty
My experience with John Reed Fitness was terrible - AVOID THAT GYM AT ALL COSTS
My experience with John Reed Fitness has been consistently very negative, both in terms of hygiene and customer treatment.
I repeatedly raised serious concerns about the hygiene standards. The showers were often not functional — out of three, usually only one was usable at best. The others were clogged, water would not drain properly, and they smelled strongly. The same applied to the toilets, which were frequently blocked and unpleasant. Overall, the gym felt poorly maintained and unclean.
I reported these issues multiple times, both via email and in person. However, no meaningful action was taken, and my complaints were effectively ignored.
I eventually terminated my contract due to serious reasons (health condition and change of residence), fully in line with the terms and conditions valid at that time. Despite this, the gym engaged in various obstructive practices to avoid accepting my termination — for example, falsely claiming that notice had to be delivered by post, even though the applicable terms clearly allowed termination via email.
Additionally, I was asked to provide repeated and excessive medical documentation. Even after submitting it, my termination was arbitrarily reclassified by the gym as a “contract suspension” for three months, despite the fact that I had never requested any suspension. This was entirely unjustified and contrary to the contractual terms.
For nearly a year afterwards, I was continuously issued invoices for an alleged “debt,” despite repeatedly informing them that the contract had already been properly terminated. After this period, the gym itself terminated the contract and demanded compensation and payment of membership fees — without any transparent calculation or legal justification.
The situation escalated to threats of legal action and referral to a debt collection agency, including warnings about additional costs. I consider this approach to be highly aggressive and inappropriate towards consumers.
Overall, I find the conduct of this fitness center unprofessional, unfair, and hostile towards its clients. I strongly advise caution, especially when it comes to contract termination.
John Reed in Prague
John Reed in Prague. Horrible gym.
The staff is pretty rude but if that was it, whatever. As someone who tried many gyms all over Europe, this one is absolutely not worth the costs: machines are so weird from a biomechanics p.o.v (chest press diverges, leg press with half rom, etc) and in general the quality of the equipment is very low. But the worst of them all is the music. The djs compete for being the worst: ranging from loud ethno-environmental sound to underground techno (although this is a personal preference). But anyway, too loud even for noise-cancelling earphones.
It’s the most over crowded gym I’ve…
It’s the most over crowded gym I’ve ever been to. They’ve allowed far too many people to join. I don’t mind waiting to use equipment - that’s normal and expected - but I’ve never been to a gym where you regularly have to wait to get a free locker. Even on so-called quiet times.
On the plus side the staff are great. But it’s waaaaay too over crowded to be comfortable.
They don't care about members
They don't care about members, just about selling memberships. It's not a premium gym but has a premium price. Complained to management that I wasn't happy and they said tough I have a one-year contract, so guess I'm SOL.
Total scam
Total scam - stay away.
I subscribed for an annual membership in Prague and, according to the personnel there as well as terms & conditions, it is possible to end it ahead of time in case of documented reasons - which is my case of relocation abroad.
However, they keep sending invoices despite I have communicated the cancellation with 9 months notice. This is a fraud - I recommend everyone to stay away from their predatory practices.

Warning
Warning: Total Scam!
I signed up at the Santa Monica location, and was told by their staff that my membership had been cancelled.
Turns out, they kept charging me — $1,050 over 7 months — even though I haven’t stepped foot in the gym.
Absolutely unacceptable.
I’m currently emailing their manager, and if they don’t refund me, I’ll be pursuing legal action.
I’ll update you all on what happens next — but for now, steer clear of this place.
Crap!!!
I'm very, very sad with the service, when I joined to this gym I paid a membership for a year subscription, I was told that for a period of 3 months I would receive a 5 euro bill + 15 extra euros that I understand, but it was not true I ended up paying almost 40 because they could not withdraw from my Sparkasse card, first that. On the other hand I was told when I first joined that the contract was for a year, but I was able to give up any time in case something unexpected happened, if I had a valid reason, in this case I'm leaving the country to Spain for a job opportunity I've got, and the only thing I received in return was an email saying that they were very sorry, but it was not possible because the contract was for a year, which is not the information I received at first. Every thing was terrible, and now I would need to pay for something I won't even use at the end. Also, the call center service is only in German, and I'm not able to communicate properly.

The john reed fitness adversity
I am writing this review to trustpilot as a last attempt to explain myself about this situation. This unfair and exhausting situation has been nearly going on for a year. I have done multiple visits in person, had long phone calls, and sent countless emails to the gym and collections to resolve this. I would like to start from the beginning and state the facts;
On the 24th of November I have registered for a membership with the gym. I came along with a friend of mine as his referral. This personal trainer who was very friendly convinced me to sign up. He offered me decent terms of a membership. My membership terms were that the rest of the month free, an activation payment of £100, first 2 months free, and then a monthly payment of 80£ a month. Also I was informed when getting the membership that in case of unseen circumstances eg. moving from the city I was able to cancel the membership. After getting the membership I have been to your gym 1 more time with the friend that referenced me to sign up during the month of November and after that never again. I haven't made any payments as I was having difficult times (I froze my course from university because I couldn’t afford living in London) and move to my parents house in Colchester (further then legal distance to cancel a gym membership), and understandably the gym situation didn't come to my mind. After this I started getting emails from the gym that my payments are overdue. The payments that the gym requested were for the activation payment and the first 2 months of membership. In response to this, I have called the gym and explained the situation. I have informed you guys that my contract conditions stated that my first 2 months were free, and I have froze out my uni and moved back to my home city. I faithfully accepted that I have to pay the activation package but the rest of it is unacceptable. The person I was on the phone with told me that you guys were gonna get back to me about the situation. After this I received no communication from you guys, including the automatic emails about the payments I been receiving before I called.
After some time past and I thought the situation was resolved, I started to get contacted by redwood collections company about the debt I have to the gym. I reached out immediately to explain the situation. I been told to talk to the gym again to resolve this issue. The gym has said that I can’t cancel a membership over an phone call and that I should have emailed and gave me the email address to do so. This initial phone call cancellation I thought I did was a total customer service fault by the gym. Still I accepted and emailed the correct address explaining the situation and demanding cancellation of my gym contract. I thought this would resolve the issue. I couldn’t have been more wrong. After this I kept receiving email, letters and phone calls from the collections agency. It’s been immensely stressful after this point. I responded to the demand of the collections company proving the various things they requested me to prove. I provided the email of cancellation multiple times to the collections and their response were that because the gym didn’t email me back a confirmation email for my request my gym contract wasn’t accepted as canceled. This is very unfair as it’s the gyms responsibility to reply to my email request of cancellation. This was the second time the gym was at fault. Also in this process I have contacted the gym many times. The approach of both parties I am dealing with has been very apahtetic and misleading. The gym directed me to collections and the collections to the gym. One time I went to the gym to talk with the reception. The manager came to see me and deal with my situation. I explained everything to him and he told me that it’s not in the gyms hands and I have to deal with redwood collections. He also used some empathy which all the other people I have spoken to about this situation lacked, and gave me advice. He told me that I should contact citizens advice and do a small claims application.
Over this past year it’s been a challange as a 21 year old young adult to stand my ground and not give up on this unjust debt that has been put the my name. I hope for a resolution!

In Donau Zentrum (Vienna Austria) John Reed, the lockers are continuously broken in by insiders stealing money and valuables. This has been an ongoing event since several months. Several complaints are deposited with the Police who asked the management to change their locker number keys to a modern safer system. The management does nothing. Everyday someone is missing valuables and money. Join the club if you want to steal trouble free.

From the first day
From the first day, I felt welcomed and motivated. The staff is exceptionally knowledgeable and always willing to help, whether it’s showing you how to use equipment or giving fitness tips. The range of classes is fantastic—my favorites include the circuit training and yoga sessions. Each instructor brings their unique flair, making every class feel engaging. I also appreciate the community events they host, which create a sense of belonging and camaraderie. The clean, spacious locker rooms and shower facilities are a huge plus, too!

worse experience I had with a gym
worse experience I had with a gym. very rude people work in the reception, I tried to make a membership for a year after I had a month test, they ask u to pay for another activation big amount of money, when I asked why, they said we don’t know u just have to pay! than I used a credit card of a friend while I’m with him on the phone line to make the payment, and they just told me u can’t and kicked me out of the gym when Ive been a member before!! The manager came and told the receptionist to not let me in, so if u don’t have a credit card u are not welcome on this gym, because they won’t be able to steal your money!
be carful guys, not to get scammed . they just swipe your card if u don’t determine the contract! yearly contract can’t be determine, so u will pay anyway!

Be careful with this gym
Be careful with this gym, I signed up for a free trial and they have been trying to take money from my account ever since. I've been calling and asking for this issue to be resolved and no one answered. Avoid this gym at all costs

Avoid.
Avoid.
The Gym is ok, not worth the headache, It is impossible to cancel.
Ended up being there for 8 months, gym was under maintenance/falling apart for half that time, left feeling completely ripped off.
Baffling way to run a business, avoid.

Indifferent attitude toward customers
Horrible. I tried to buy a personal training package at the Santa Monica location, and getting the first appointment with a trainer was such a nightmare that I am now shopping around for a different gym. The assistant manager, Taylor scheduled me with a trainer, but when I showed up my appointment was not on the books and the trainer was not available. The manager who was on duty was Albert, and I tried to ask him about rescheduling, but he couldn't be bothered to help me, despite the fact that he seemed to be just hanging out in the lounge area texting on his phone. Rarely have I seen such an indifferent and uncaring attitude from staff at a gym.
