Kiki Photo Tours offers photography experiences in Porto that go far beyond simply visiting tourist spots. Led by professional photographer Pieter Janssen, the tours are designed for people who want to improve their photography while discovering the city in a more personal and creative way. What makes these tours different is the strong focus on learning. Whether using a DSLR, mirrorless camera or just a smartphone, guests receive practical guidance on composition, light, storytelling, observation and camera settings in real-world situations. The tours are suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced photographers looking for fresh inspiration. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and personal, with small groups allowing plenty of individual attention. Rather than rushing from location to location, the experience encourages participants to slow down, observe details and develop a more thoughtful approach to photography. Porto itself becomes part of the learning process, from colourful streets and riverside scenes to hidden corners and changing light conditions. Pieter brings more than a decade of experience leading photography tours and workshops in Asia and Europe. His background as a commercial and fine art photographer adds depth to the experience, while his calm teaching style makes technical concepts easy to understand. Guests consistently mention how much they learn during the tours, but also how enjoyable and inspiring the experience feels. Kiki Photo Tours combines photography, travel, creativity and local atmosphere into something much more meaningful than a standard walking tour.

We had a fantastic afternoon of photography

We had a fantastic afternoon if photography with Pieter. He was really patient with us and taught us a lot about our cameras and how best to use them as well as ideas for what makes a great photo. Also although I've lived in Porto for 34 years discovered in our walk beautiful roads and cafes you would never guess were there! I really recommend this trip

Thanks a lot for your wonderful review. I also enjoyed going around with you guys. I was a little but surprised that I was able to show a Porto veteran like you something you did not see before. And I learned something from you too! I would never have suspected that an abandoned building used to be a prison. I hope my advice will help you when you go on safari.

I learnt so much

Kiki Photo Tours deserves every bit of praise for delivering a relaxed, informative and genuinely enjoyable photography experience in Porto. From start to finish, the tour feels personal with a strong focus on both improving your skills and discovering interesting corners of the city you’d probably miss on your own. Pieter, the photographer behind Kiki Photo Tours, is patient, encouraging and very good at pitching his advice to your level, whether you’re a complete beginner like me or already comfortable with a camera. He doesn’t just talk about settings; he explains why a scene works, helps you see light and composition in new ways, and gives tailored tips so you can apply what you learn immediately which in my case was everything. The pace of the walk is easy. The route itself is a real highlight: it weaves through some of Porto’s most photogenic spots, mixing well-known viewpoints with more local corners and details that make your photos feel unique and I can use on my next trip. You get a variety of subjects. It also doubles as a great city introduction, with local insights and stories that add context to what you’re photographing. What stands out most is how comfortable and fun the experience feels, even if you’re usually shy about shooting in public or unsure of your abilities. There’s no pressure, no rushing and no sense of being “judged”; instead, it feels like walking around with a knowledgeable friend who really wants you to get better pictures. Overall, I highly recommend Kiki Photo Tours to anyone visiting Porto who wants to learn, explore and create memorable images at the same time.

Thank you so much for this generous review. It truly means a lot to read that you experienced the walk in the way I hope for.

I’m especially happy that the ideas about light and composition resonated with you and felt immediately useful. That moment when things start to “click” is exactly what I aim for.

It was a pleasure exploring Porto with you, and I could make a difference. I hope you continue to use what you discovered. In your own city and on your next trips.

All the best,
Pieter
