Obviously Assigned to The Wrong Reviewer

I received a more-or-less positive review from a reviewer who for some reason reviewed the book for how appropriate it would be for a young reader audience. ....It isn't. It fell into the Climate-Fiction, Hard-Science Fiction subgenres for adult readers. The reviewer missed the entire point of the novel, demonstrating a lack of understanding for these subgenres, as well as the current science the plot trigger mechanism was based on. It was almost as if the reviewer was looking at the novel from a 'kiddy-lit' point-of-view. Apparently, there is no recourse to have it reassigned to an appropriate reviewer.

Book Review A Gentle

Book Review: A Gentle Romance That Stays With You
This romance novel offers a heartfelt and emotional journey that feels both realistic and deeply touching. The story follows two characters who meet unexpectedly and slowly build a connection that grows stronger through shared moments, misunderstandings, and personal struggles. What makes this book special is how natural the relationship feels—nothing is rushed, and every emotion is given space to develop.
The author does a great job of showing how love isn’t always perfect. There are challenges, doubts, and moments of distance, but these only make the bond between the characters more meaningful. The dialogue feels genuine, and the small, quiet moments between the characters are just as powerful as the big emotional scenes.
The setting adds to the romantic atmosphere, creating a warm and comforting backdrop that pulls the reader in. By the end, the story leaves you with a sense of hope and the belief that love can grow even in unexpected ways.
Overall, this is a beautiful and relatable romance that readers will likely remember long after finishing it.

Don't go there, reviewers are not professional

I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience with Kirkus Reviews was deeply disappointing. The reviewer clearly did not read my book properly and based a central criticism on a fundamental misunderstanding of a concept explained explicitly in the text. Because this misrepresentation directly affects the credibility of the work, I submitted a detailed and carefully documented complaint pointing out the factual errors.

The response from Kirkus was extremely underwhelming. After providing a thorough explanation and supporting references, the only change made to the review was the modification of two words. The substantive error and misleading framing remained untouched. More concerning was the overall lack of responsiveness and professionalism throughout the process. When authors pay for a review service, the minimum expectation is that the book is read attentively and that legitimate factual corrections are handled seriously.

In its current form, the service simply does not justify the price. Authors should be aware that even clear factual inaccuracies may not be meaningfully addressed once a review is published. Afterwards they try to sell you for thousands of dollars in promotional services. I'm not moving forward with any of it, due to the poor quality of the review.

The Kirkus review writer did an impressive job in clearly articulating the core structure and key findings of the book. Super crisp and engaging writing.

The Kirkus process is super simple. Backed by at least one super mindful, artful reviewer. The work is adding great visibility to our book, ideas. - Bruce Fuller, UC Berkeley
