Miserable experience
Had a miserable experience learning how to drive from Kaj. I'm a long time automatic driver and went to Kaj to learn how to drive manual. While at first he was courteous and polite, as soon as driving in traffic began, he began making insulting, derogatory, sarcastic and snide remarks as a way to release his frustration with my beginning manual driving skills. I was surprised by his change in manner and tone when he was instructing me even after I had initially stated more than once that I had never driven manual before, nor had I ever driven in Denmark and thus am unfamiliar with more specific road rules. He began to berate me for things that I did not do, such as putting my foot on the pedal at the wrong time, and would argue with me when I told him I had not. He also got angry with me for not lifting my feet off the pedals when he took over, for which he rarely announced that he was doing. Near the end, he was a bit more explicit with step-by-step guidance which made things easier and more understandable, but this was unfortunately near the very end of our lesson. While I can understand that every teacher has a teaching style, the negativity, sarcasm, snide snickering, and overall making me feel dumb was entirely unnecessary. On top of trying to manage all of the new added steps of driving manual after 15 years of driving automatic in a different country, I had to manage his attitude and condescending remarks. As someone who has taken driving lessons with a few different instructors over my time driving, I have never experienced one that was so stressful and demeaning. While I did come away from the lesson with a better knowledge and increased familiarity driving manual, I cannot recommend others to take lessons from Kaj, nor will I ever continue my instruction with him.
