Great quality by perhaps too large and heavy
I bought just the Ledereasel (the vertical post to hold canvases that can clip on to my tripod. Ordering was easy and they kept me informed. It is solid and well made, though maybe a bit heavy.
My issue is that the mounting place is right in the middle of one side of post. That means that the lower part extends too low and may interfere with my palette that clips onto my tripod. I have to raise the easel higher than I did previously. It might be better to make the mounting square adjustable or to permit the two vertical posts to attach to each other from either end.

Hello, thank you for your review of the LederEasel Only. I appreciate your support and comments.
Regarding the placement of the attachment plate, I have some thoughts. The first one is that the bottom half of the mast can be left off, after moving the lower crosspiece to the upper, making for a smaller and compact setup when working on a smaller canvas. Then I question, if the end of the post is too close to your palette, can you not lower the palette an inch or so along the tripod legs?
Also, there are Z stand-offs, used by photographers that mount onto the tripod, to move the camera away from the tripod head. You could use one of those to position the easel closer to you, and over the palette if that is any help.
If you care to drill a hole at the end of one of the masts, you may be able to reconfigure how they attach together.
I avoided an adjustable mounting plate as it’s a place where instability could creep in and more adjustments to be made.
I hope you can find what works best for you so you can enloy using your purchase for many years to come.

Just what i was looking for
The easel arrived very quickly, was easy to set up, and is sturdy and high quality. I have not taken it out painting yet but am excited to try it!

Beautifully made but heavy for my light tripod…
The palette holder is beautifully made but is heavy (with the Masterson box) and forces the legs to slide together (they do not bow) on my lightweight tripod, even when I turn the hooks around to allow the metal rods to help hold it up. I will try it on a rougher surface or grass, and also will try a heavier tripod, but was looking for a lightweight system. I do not have this problem with the Coulter palette.
Edit to respond to Mr. Leder: I have a SIRUI 60" Carbon Fiber Tripod for Camera with 360° Panoramic Ball Head, Arca QR Plate, Compact Lightweight 2.1 lbs Travel Tripod for DSLR Video Camcorder, Max Load 10kg, Traveler X-III. (Max load = 22 lbs.) There is no locking mechanism on the tripod to keep the legs apart. I bought the Leder to use a Masterson box with it; I love the Coulter but it is a small size. I found a very positive review on the Virtual Art Academy website (I cannot put a link here) where the reviewer had the same problem and they recommended reversing the hooks, which helped a bit. Putting uneven pressure on the sides of the Masterson causes the hooks to work their way down the legs and close them. I will try the Leder on a heavier Slik tripod with thicker legs and a center brace I have in another state.

Hello Nancy, hopefully I can address this issue with you. You mention you're using a lightweight tripod which could be a cause for bowing it's legs. The palette holder itself weighs 20 ounces so I'm curious what you're placing on it that's adding to the weight. I suggest on the website using a Masterson pallet which only weighs 1.6 pounds, so together these items should work well with most tripods. Would you share what tripod you're using? Some folks have been disappointed with the LederEasel kit that were using inexpensive plastic tripods. It's recommended to use one that is sturdy enough to support an easel and pallet holder especially when used outdoors.
I'm also curious that you mentioned your Coulter pallet doesn't cause any issues but you've invested in a different fixture. Why change if your present pallet works?
In summary, I'd like to know the make and model of the tripod to better understand if this is an issue I should address in my design.
By the way .. What does it mean when you say you turn the hooks around? I don't understand how it would support anything with the hooks pointed in the opposite direction.

Thanks for your info about the tripods, which seem sturdy enough for the task at hand.
I do find carbon fiber tripods, though advantageous weight wise, to have a tendency to bend under pressure and are more slippery than aluminum, so this is a possible cause.
There are work arounds for the hooks sliding which I cover on my website. One of those is to use the tips of an old pair of rubber gloves, slipped over the ends of the hooks to help create additional grip. I've also seen the use of a rubber strip adhered to the back side of the palette holder. In most cases, the use of some form of attachment is not necessary, but if slippage is a problem, then there are some ways to help to prevent it.
I’m still bewildered by turning the hooks around either by your doing so, or the person’s suggestion that you read. I can’t picture how the palette holder as it’s designed to function would stay in place at all with the hooks reversed. I don’t know if you can post an image here but if you would show that to me via a direct email (sales@ledereasel.com) I’d be interested to see how that works.

I love my ledereasel. I've had the easel about a year. I had made my own palette holder until I could order the one that goes with the easel, which is better than mine because it collapses to practically nothing for transporting. Thanks, Ledereasel!
