USE WITH CAUTION
I received a quote from LFS (by them looking at photographs of my office that I supplied upon their request) for a set of electrical cupboard fire doors. I liked the quote and asked them to do a site check to ensure the quote was correct and measurements (that I supplied upon their request) was correct. They insisted I had to pay them a 50% deposit prior to a site check and measurement, which I explained I was uncomfortable to do as they could then raise the quote to whatever they wanted after the site check and I would be stuck with them because I gave them deposit. There was no explanation (eg charge to have the ‘engineer come out or that I could cancel the job if that happened). They just said, if I wanted to use them and have their ‘engineer’ come out to measure properly then I had to give them a 50% deposit. So, reluctantly I did. The ‘engineer’ was a man who just measured my door frame in 15 minutes but then noticed there was a empty void in the cupboard which could cause a fire breach so I asked him to look at it and give me advice so they could install the fire doors without a fire breach. He said he couldn’t, that this was ‘fire stopping work’, told me to contact the company about it and left. I informed LFS about this and they wanted an additional £800 to send a ‘fire stopping’ engineer to come out to only check the breach and then would quote for more to do this extra work. I complained because £800 was extremely excessive amount. Someone at LFS told me off the record that I could get my advance deposit money back if I canceled the job. Naturally, I wanted to cancel because exactly what I suspected would happen was happening. LFS said I could cancel the job but they would charge me £300 for the ‘engineer’ that did the site check eg the guy who measured my door frame for the fire doors. I complained to the manager about this but he just sent me a curt email so I had no choice but to pay the £300. Meanwhile, Im happy to say, I found a different unrelated great company who came out to measure for the fire doors, checked the fire stopping breach, came up with affordable remedy for it and even spoke to my FRA to ensure he was happy with the plan - ALL FOR FREE! No commitment, no deposit. Naturally I have confirmed this other company to do my job. Unfortunately Im not allowed to say who they are but my advice is…there are much better fire door and fire stopping companies out there. I would be extremely careful using this company.
