Learning Arabic with these guys has been a blast, and surprisingly, quite a breeze! The way they structure lessons makes it all very easy to learn and memorise, even all the new vocab every week fee... See more

At Lingua Verna (meaning “vernacular language”), we believe that spoken dialects are a powerful tool for breaking down cultural barriers and fostering genuine human connections. Our focus is on Levantine Arabic, the dialect spoken in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Jordan. We primarily serve members of the North American and European diaspora communities and their non-Arab partners who seek high-quality, affordable, and enjoyable resources to learn Arabic effectively. We are equally committed to making a positive impact. Our team comprises talented individuals who are either refugees resettled in Western countries or living in areas of economic hardship and political instability in the Middle East. By offering living wages to our employees and contractors, we ensure that our mission supports not only language learners but also the communities we serve.

This is the best program to learn…
This is the best program to learn conversational Arabic. The lessons are taught by native speakers of the language with weekly conversational groups and new vocabulary and grammar. The program is well structured and is progressive in learning conversational Arabic.
Impressions after first three weeks
I'm only a couple of weeks into Arabic Foundations 1, but I'm really impressed by how well put-together the programme is. There's a lot to digest, but it's very clearly structured and the content is well-paced .
The first few weeks has a lot of video content to bring everyone up to speed with the letters. The team were almost apologetic about this in the kick-off session, but it's great! It's so helpful to be able to rewatch it to make sure it's sunk in, and the ability to access the videos (and do the flashcards) on the mobile app is really helpful.
The teachers are all really enthusiastic and patient, too.
I'm looking forward to continuing the course, and - having started as a complete beginner - I feel like if I only come away with half of what I'm taught, it'll have been great value.
I am so gratefully for this course
I am so gratefully for this course! It is so hard for Arabic-learners to find quality material for specific dialects. MSA is a great, but to really be fluent, you need to learn the language of the people.
Excellent course
The teaching is very well structured and there are plenty of opportunities for practice and numerous study materials. I am glad I found this course. Looking forward to signing up for the next level.
Great pace and teachers
Great pace and teachers! Highly recommend to anyone new to the language.
Very happy with Lingua Verna
Very happy with Lingua Verna and the entire team. Nice approach to teaching Arabic with the weekly group call and then followed by the conversation groups.
Great course
Great course, wonderful teachers and interesting conversations. Highly recommend!

FINALLY I feel like I’m turning a linguistic corner. This Level 1 class has been great. The order of what material is presented and the intentionality of how the information stacks is excellent. The learning is scaffolded really well. The format is accessible for someone in a household of two working parents and 2 children under 5. If you can stay on top of the review exercises and vocabulary decks, you’ll be significantly further along than when you started the class. My wife was impressed at the care take to honor multiple dialects and teach into them. I’m already using much more Arabic with my native-speaking family, as well as understanding what they’re saying much much more. Thank you Lingua Verne Team👏🏽👏🏽
Ideal Arabic Class
Lingua Verna is way to go of you want to learn Arabic or sharpen your skills with the language. Alex and his team are quick to adjust content for the needs of the students. I recommend this class over the rest.
This program has worked well for me…
This program has worked well for me (better than previous approaches I have used for a few years), due to the teaching skills of the instructors in explaining the relationship between conversational realities of regional variation and the grammatical rules, the latter simplified from formal language but important for clarity even in everyday communication.

I recently joined LinguaVerna and have completed level one. I was so pleased with the format and teaching style. Bashar was my instructor and he was great at answering all my questions and helping me with my pronunciation making sure I was speaking correctly. I am so excited for level 2!!
Thanks, Lindsay
Great program, highly recommend!
Highly recommend Lingua Verna for learning Arabic! The pace is fast enough to make progress but slow enough not to be overwhelming, the online exercises test different aspects of language use and understanding, and the conversation groups do a great job of getting you to read and speak aloud.
A Must for Children of Americanized Arab Parents
Super helpful for those that grew up around some Arabic but never understood the rules and grammar. I've gone from barely being able to read to having text conversations with friends in Arabic in 10 weeks. Highly recommend for the casual Arabic phrase user who still needs to understand the 'why' behind the phrasing.
Arabic lessons that WORK!
The beginner Arabic class is really fantastic! After multiple false starts at trying to learn this beautiful language, I am finally learning to speak Arabic through this class. Highly recommend this program. The instruction is very good and the materials easy to follow and review materials very helpful. I love the weekly conversation class - this makes a big difference! Couldn't be more excited that I am finally gaining confidence in speaking!

I had no previous Arabic experience and the course was laid out very intuitively. It’s very affordable for a language program and the instructors are all very helpful and supportive. I highly recommend if you are interested in learning Arabic.
Level 1: Lingua Verna Levantine Arabic
I did the first level course in Levantine Arabic as part of Buraq's conversation group and really appreciated the curriculum! As part of the course, you begin with the Arabic alphabet which was incredibly helpful with understanding the phonetics. I also appreciate how Lingua Verna highlights regional differences in pronunciation. If you've searched for courses in Levantine Arabic you know how challenging it can be to find live instruction and conversation groups and Lingua Verna offers just that along with great digital materials. Overall would very much recommend the course as I've learned a lot and truly enjoyed the time!
Conversational and fun!
While I enjoy learning languages, I have always struggled with the structure of most classes which focus on grammar, sentence structure, parts of speech, aka the more technical stuff. But Lingua Verna's approach is totally different. With an emphasis on speaking, listening, and comprehension, I'm finding that I'm learning more quickly and it's sticking with me. Grammar is also part of the learning, but it's not the main focus. Taking classes with Lingua Verna is the first time, in a long time, where I have not been frustrated with learning a language. Instead, I'm having fun, enjoying myself, and excited to continue learning and practicing. Would definitely recommend!
Great Program!
This program helped me improve my Arabic a lot in just a few months!
Amazing Introduction to Levantine Arabic
Taking the Foundations class has been so much better for my Arabic learning than Duolingo or books. I really believe classes are necessary for learning spoken Arabic (dialects), given the lack of good learning material and how different a language it is. Lingua Verna's classes feel so well organized and planned. Their learning materials are way better than some college language courses I've taken. I also love the focus on getting you as fast as possible to a point where you can speak. Thanks Alex and Buraq for the amazing experience!
Happy I opted for Lingua Verna over other courses
I looked at a couple of more "formal" schools along with private tutoring. I'm so happy I opted for Lingua Verna.
Alex and Saeed have built a great system for learning that progresses in a well thought out manner. Beyond that, the reason I appreciate the course most — it's a light and welcoming group environment. It's not stuffy or rigid. Alex and Saeed are excellent patient teachers, kind and considerate, and regularly ask for feedback so they can tweak things for our benefit.
The course promoted itself as for both beginners and those with some exposure to Arabic. I was in the latter group and interested in what the approach would be. It's excellent having a native speaker in Saeed and an adult learner in Alex because you get great insights from both. While I had exposure to the trickier pronunciations (to non-Arab speakers), the explanations for these were excellent.
The course was made up of 2 x weekly sessions: one being video lessons with a Q&A, followed by a conversational session in a small group. The videos are well-produced, the Q&A sessions offer a lot of insight, and the conversational sessions offer a good challenge while being in a friendly environment. There are online exercises in-between classes which were good but have really improved as the team are constantly tweaking things through our experiences and requesting feedback.
I'd highly recommend Lingua Verna!
