Great car lousy customer service

Rented a 15cubic metre van for a long drive (1900Kms) The van was a fairly new Renault and drove superbly. In fact, the van itself wasn't the problem at all, but the staff and the agency (Dammarie Les Lys). I had booked for 9am, showed up at 8:40am and there were already people there. I didn't get seen until 9:20 when everything had to be gone through in minute detail and they didn't trust my colleague's foreign but EU driving licence so that had to be checked. By 10am, an hour after I wanted to leave, I walked onto the parking lot where I was promised there would be an agent to take care of the hand off and take pictures. I waited and waited and saw someone who I approached but who turned out to be another client waiting for the phantom agent to appear. I was now running 1 hour and 15 minutes behind schedule so I took off. I stopped at a lay-by and took pictures of the van which was anyway in good condition. They geo-localise their vans so they know exactly how many kilometres you've done anyway. That evening I mailed the pictures to the agency saying their agent never showed up.
The trip went fine and the van was great. Upon return, I filled it up and washed it at the car wash so it was shiny clean. It was also -4ºC so not pleasant to be outside. When I went to return the key at 12:50 the agency was shut for a 2 hour lunch! So had to come back at 2pm. They again said I had to go to the carpark to have the pictures taken, I said I'd just been there and there was no one. So I headed back into the cold and wandered around freezing until a young man, totally dressed in black, finally approached me and said he was the agent and started telling me off for having left without seeing him. I told him he should at least wear something that identifies him as an agent for Leclerc as I'm not in the habit of approaching people dressed as thugs in car parks. He claimed he didn't have that. He continued to berate me and asked what these weird marks were on the van, it turned out to be the water from the car wash that had frozen. He was very disappointed that he didn't find anything wrong but took extra long and even said "well in that case I'm going to do a really thorough inspection".
When I finally came back into the agency I noticed a "Location Leclerc" outdoor jacket on the chair. I pointed out to his colleague that there was a jacket that would identify it, but he made some excuse that it was only a rain jacket, when I pointed out it could just be worn over his winter coat so we can identify him, he just shrugged. It obviously didn't make him look "cool".
So, overall, great car lousy customer service

My advice is do not rent a car at this…

My advice is do not rent a car at this location!! The staff is not service minded or helpful. When I picked up the car I did not look underneath the car for visible damage. When I returned the car unharmed she claimed that I had damaged the car underneath which I am extremely sure I have not. The staff has a bad attitude and I would not advise anyone to go near this place!!

DO NOT be caught by E.leclerc location's pricing. They will find a way to make you pay €200…

Beware of this company's scamming techniques. The rentals are affordable because any minor damage is charged a flat fee of €200. E.g. we apparently caused a small crack in one of the pieces of plywood in the back of the utilitaire. (The cost to replace the plywood is less than €50.) I offered to get it done privately but was not allowed. Instead the representative was very pleased to charge me.€200. I have no idea if a commission is paid for charging extra. Either way, that price/fee is usurious.

Indeed the inly reason for the unnecessary plywood in the back of a utility vehicle is so because it is easily damaged and therefore easy to extort money from clients. LECLERC LOCATION is a SCAM. I need a utility vehicle twice a month but will not be enticed again by their prices. Back to Carrefour for me.

Poor Customer Service - Car Hire

The booking process was fairly easy and at first sight the price was good. However when we got the car, which was new and very decent, it was also very dirty. When we returned it, they refused to take it until it was cleaned inside and out. Refused to accept it was anything less than perfect when we collected it. Agent was downright rude and disrespectful. Appalling customer service. She really let the brand down as all other dealings with the store have been exceptional.

Deposit not returned

Put on a 1600 euro deposit that has not been returned. Contacted them and they said "not our problem" will have to go via the ombudsman now to get it back. AVOID use another rental company

Ive tried phone and tablet (android) and Windows 7 Laptop...cant figure...very frustrating as now i cannot reserve...!!

Leclerc Car Hire (Bergerac)

very cheap and easy, and the people (Gaelle and Alexandra) were delightful to deal with. Most helpful.
Shame you can only hire for 30 days as you have to come in again and do a new contract.
Still, worth it for the cost saving.

Great service at a great price

I thought twice before renting due to some very negative review, but in the end I went for it, as the price was A LOT better than anything else, plus it was very convenient with my in laws living next door.
I couldn't have hoped for anything better, staff were friendly, yes they make you aware that they will inspect carefully the car for scratch, so make sure you check first before leaving. Also it has to be cleaned and returned with a full tank.
The fact that there is a petrol station literally in front of the main door, is not an issue.

Really, if you compare this service with any of the other "classic" rental agencies, you pay 3x more, and you still have to take care of the car the same way. Yes, you don't have to clean the car with other agencies. But for a 1/3 of the price, I'm more than happy to spend 30/45min with a hoover and a sponge to return a clean car.

Nice people in the supermarkets and…

Nice people in the supermarkets and good cars at a very good price. You need to fill the car up and keep the receipt plus wash the car and keep that receipt as well. Then all is good. You do pay for kms so very good value if low mileage else go to a rental car firm and get unlimited mileage.

Rented for 2 weeks in France this year…

Rented for 2 weeks in France this year and they were fine. Clearly stated the car needed to be left back cleaned inside and out which I did. Way cheaper than the main rental companies. Charged a small excess for mileage. Can't fault really.

Third rental from Leclerc - OK but could be better

We have rented three times from Leclerc and had good experiences with them. They are cheap and we have had good cars. They are also very careful to inspect the car first - suggesting they will be difficult if you return the car with any small scratches etc. Our problem came when the very new (800km) renault that they gave us, broke down badly on day 2 of an 18 day rental. They left us stranded for quite a few hours in a hot village in Provence waiting for them to find a replacement car. In the end they found one (through the assistance service) but it was dirty, only 3/4 full of petrol and the GPS did not really work (nor did the aircon). It seemed to be a car that had been thrashed for its first 14000 km and now needed a service that had not been done. In addition they explained very poorly what we needed to do - call after a few days to extend the rental of the replacement car, return it to where we broke down rather than to the original rental location etc. Now it is back, but we had a much worse car, had to stay somewhere we did not want to go (and pay for a hotel). They did however get us home in a taxi. So overall OK when things go well but not so good in case of problems. To cap it all off they telephoned quite angry that we had not returned the car to the original location (they had somehow forgotten that the car had broken down and had been replaced).

Terrible terrible, rude and twice the advertised price

Sait Martin de Re
Customer service is terrible, terrible, terrible. The car they gave me was dirty. I told him this, he said 'oh no, it is just dust from overnight' - there where insects sticking to the windscreen and streak marks. When I returned it one day later, after using it only to do a supermarket shop - total of 40km on the road he said I should have washed it. He also tried to charge me for a scratch that was marked on the paper and was very grumpy with me when I pointed to it on the paper.
The dial clearly showed the petrol was full, but he said he wanted a receipt to show I had actually put petrol in and would not believe me when. say I had!! No mention off this in the website.
The actual price is double the hire price since it is 19cent for each km - so 6€ to hire plus 8€ for 'kilometres'. As all of this was discussed he was very rude about it. When I left I heard him say to the next customer "Oh the English are dirty"!!!!!
