Frustrating from start to finish
My experience with Long & McQuade was frustrating from start to finish. Their customer service was disorganized, misleading, and frankly unacceptable for a company that presents itself as a leader in musical instruments.
I was repeatedly told things were being handled when, in reality, nothing meaningful was happening. Information changed depending on who I spoke to, and explanations I was given turned out to be untrue or wildly inaccurate. Whether through incompetence or indifference, I was misled about what they were actually doing, which wasted my time and eroded any trust I had in the company.
What makes this even more frustrating is how unnecessary the experience was. Ordering from Amazon.ca is faster, clearer, and far more transparent. With Amazon, you know exactly what’s happening, when your order is coming, and who is accountable. With Long & McQuade, I got vague answers, poor follow-through, and zero ownership of the problem.
If customer service matters to you at all, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. In today’s retail environment, there is no excuse for this level of service—and plenty of better, easier alternatives.
Cranky employee pressed about playing drums??...
Employee told me not to be loud on the drums even though theyre gonna be loud, theyre drums.... I play metal music and I was obviously using the double pedal for blast beats and the worker told me that if I break the kit im gonna have to pay for it and started talking to me like I dont know what Im doing. He told me the lights downstairs are shaking when I play the drums and how the hell does that bother me? If it shakes the lights thats your problem because you put the drums upstairs. Maybe use common sense if the drums are "shaking the lights" and put them downstairs and put the keyboards upstairs. Buddy was giving me a death stare after every hit of a drum and was on the edge of kicking me out. How about you hire people that dont despise genres of music where you have to play fast and hard. I can tell hes into boy band music and im sorry I dont play no 😺 little boots and cats beat.
not what it used to be
I love going to long and McQuades the people are friendly but it definitely used to be a lot better. the variety in stores is not the best (I play bass ) I have been looking for an amp head to try out and every store i have been to only has 2 at most.
Issues on Gear hunter
I tried to buy a few used guitars on their gear hunter page and I would not recommend anyone to do so. In all the guitars there were overlooked issues and the guitars condition wasn’t accurately described in photos or in writing.

I was in this store two or three weeks ago. I bought a microphone and received excellent service, which made me feel better. If you enjoy patient service, I recommend asking for Michael Di Monte. He's one of the best in my entire experience in Canada. If you read this message, remember to always do your job very well. You're one of the best. And as if that weren't enough, he showed me products at various price points. Don't forget, it's not just the store; customer service counts too.
L&M Halifax Always Great
Having purchased many items, from basic accessories to major musical instruments, I can always count on Long & McQuade for great service, knowledgeable staff (who typically are pro working musicians) and always fair pricing.
I've experienced fantastic assistance from the Halifax store’s GM, John Parker, as well as great service and guitar lessons for my son at their Bedford, NS location.
I also shop online at smaller drum and music shops when needed, especially in Quebec, for some of the harder to find items I’ve needed on occasion, but Long & McQuade has had me covered for years with all but my most specialized purchases.
Its great when you need something and don’t have to wait on a UPS delivery, shipping charges or unpredictable taxes and duty charges from Gernany, etc.
Nothing beats being able to find most things same-day in my hometown (which historically, before L&M, was far from the case).
I never hesitate to recommend Long and McQuade and their great staff members in Halifax Nova Scotia, when the opportunity arises.
Music lessons
I don't like long and mcquade, I LOVE it!
I go there for music lessons and it's AMAZING! I take singing there and I have made great progress. My teacher is Catlin and she is the best! There are also other musicians who teach! Violin, guitar, drums' e.t.c.

This place is awesome ! customer service at it's best. I bought my first guitar at the belleville location and 3 others since , I purchased my daughters first ukulele there as well . I am glad I went to long and McQuade for my first guitar. Not only for the product but the service was stellar, These guys go the extra mile to help you get what you need . Even if they don't carry the product you are looking for. They truly care about the customer . I just purchased a hummingbird from the Kingston location and it was no different . Top notch service ! the young lad that helped me even installed my strings I had purchased from the belleville location for free . Even gave me a battery for my electronics and installed it too. 5 stars from me all day long 💯

I have been in here a bunch of times in pursuit of fixing old instruments that seem to keep falling in my lap. In my complete lack of knowledge, I called the local Long and McQuade to ask for help in knowing what to do. They were so willing and gracious and were excited to help me on my ongoing quest to fix up all these instruments. Not only that, but one of there repair guys, (his name is Les, ask for him, he knows what he's doing) actually did some of the smaller repairs on some electrics I had, simply out of his own passion for his job (Thanks again man). I have continued to shop there because their is a real sense of community and comradery among them and they are always willing to help me out. Because of their help, I have fixed up these guitars and I am going in with a fresh batch soon to ask for more tips and tricks as well as buy any resources I may need. I have interacted with Julian, Joshua, Paul, Brandon and Les and every single one of them were knowledgeable, kind and always willing to help.

Long and McQuade Stouffville have been great to me. I’ve bought 8 guitars and an amp there. If there’s a problem, they fixed it cheerfully. The staff are great people. Sometimes they are not perfect,but being in the store and watching the customers behaviour I’d say they do very well. The prices are basically the same everywhere unless you’re buying used so why not get free set up. Way better than The Arts store where they play pretty loose with the truth.

Terrible Service( 2 times) LONGUEUIL
I went to Long& McQuade on Chemin Chambly in Longueuil. The service was very poop!!?..... I stood at the counter and there were 3 people standing right in front of me looking at a guitar and not one of them acknowledged me. So I stood there for about a minute and they just kept on looking at the guitar. Even the girl looked straight at me and then turned her head and continued doing what they were doing. So I left and I was there to spend 1000$ on a keyboard. So I went to Steve's music where the service was excellent and I bought the keyboard there.(Yamaha E Psr 473) And they gave me a deal... I also called Long& McQuade to ask what was their Black Friday specials. They told me I had to go online and look. I called at 10:00 a.m. just when they opened. It seemed to me the guy couldn't be bothered to take a look in his system to answer my questions and just pushed me off to go check the website. That is really garbage service if you ask me... Long& McQuade has good instruments and normally have good service. It was 2 times in a row this year that that happened. I have nothing bad to say about Long& McQuade itself as a business, but their service in the Longueuil Chemin Chambly area needs to be better. Hopefully a few bad apples won't spoil the tree.. it's sort of at a point where I don't think I'll go back to Long McQuade in this area because it's frustrating as hell... They need to be trained in better customer service.. although there was one fellow there that held me in the end after I left and came back but it was too late. I was pissed. And what happened

I had a few bad-ish experiences with Long & McQuade.
Generally, when you order online they're not really quick to ship.
Once I ordered an used item and I received it with cosmetic defects. I don't know if it was like this (and not declared) or if it got like this during shipping due to the poor packaging. They offer a small price reduction that I accepted but I should not have.
I will never buy used stuff from them again.
Recently I ordered a new item. They just put kraft paper around the factory box and send it like this. Do you think that I received the box in pristine condition ? Of course not.

Terrible do not order anything
Ordered a bass guitar and amp online. First the amp I ordered was not in stock but thought it would only take a few days to get. Called 4 days after my order was placed and was informed my amp was not coming in until Jan 2025?? The guy on the phone talked me in to buying a different amp they had in stock which was a little more expensive but whatever. My order was shipped next day with FedEx. Tracked my order carefully as I wanted to be home for the delivery. Days went by and everyday it would show my delivery was coming between certain times but nothing ever came. Called L&M and they said to give it another day and see. Called FedEx 3 times and each time they told me my order was on a truck out for delivery. Nothing ever came. Spent 5 days at home waiting and to this day still nothing. Finally got fed up and actually went to the FedEx depot to get answers as L & M was no help. Found out from FedEx my order has been there for 5 days and was in a storage trailer. FedEx then told me they didn't know when they would get to it and didn't know when it would be available for pick or delivery. It has now been a week and I have called L & M and have cancelled my order and they can have it shipped back to them. They didn't help in anyway to get this released nor did they really care. I am going to go spend my 2k elsewhere and probably will never go back to a L&M store and will not recommend them to any of my friends. If I could rate my experience to zero stars I would have.
