The storage ottoman is a beautiful deep blue and feels very soft. It's perfect for hiding my extra blankets though the legs were a bit tricky to screw in straight at first

Terrible experience!!!!

I had delivery of a very expensive item, when the item arrived I unpacked it and it was broken, I immediately took photos and contacted MDM who advised me to arrange collection of the damaged item. I contacted the collection agency Waring and made my appointment, on day of collection no one contacted me and no one turned up, I contacted the delivery company and 2 days later still no response, I don't even want a refund I only want the item replaced, I spend a serious amount of money with this company both online and in store, I then received a second parcel for a different item this time and this was also damaged. The packaging is not sufficient for breakable items and the delivery companies take no care and have no interest in the packaging and making sure they arrive safely. I am now in limbo land waiting for someone to contact me to collect this parcel and send a new replacement. This really is not good enough for such a large company that sells such beautiful items. Very poor service, terrible couriers and now what am I supposed to do????

Maison du Monde’s Customer Service and Strategy of Attrition

I want to start this review by clarifying that I am not someone who throws around negative reviews lightly. A while ago I wrote my first ever review on Trustpilot and I want to follow up on my experience with Maison du Monde.

With over eight years of experience in customer service and retail, I understand the limits and challenges of handling complaints, as well as the responsibilities on both sides. However, my experience with Maison du Monde’s customer service has been, without question, the worst I have ever encountered.

In May 2023, my partner and I purchased a storage bed from Maison du Monde. After a year of renting out our apartment, we returned to find the bed’s lift mechanism broken, causing it to tilt when closed and making it difficult to access the storage. This defect has led to poor sleep and persistent neck pain due to the awkward angle of the bed.

On September 11, 2024, well within the two-year warranty, I reached out to Maison du Monde to report the issue. Initially, everything seemed fine, but after days of no response, I began to worry. When I followed up, I was assured that my complaint would be addressed within 10 days. Those 10 days passed, and still no reply. This pattern continued for two months—contact after contact, each time with the same empty promises: “Our expert team is looking at it; please wait 10 days.” Yet nothing was ever resolved.

The frustration grew as I repeatedly asked for updates and received nothing meaningful in return. Eventually, I had to threaten legal action to receive even a response. After a month, I was offered replacement parts to repair the bed myself or a replacement bed. My partner and I chose the latter. Yet, once again, Maison du Monde went silent, with only the same hollow assurances each time I checked in.

I began documenting my conversations, recording chats, and taking screenshots as it became clear I was being given the runaround. On multiple occasions, chat agents abruptly ended conversations —because, yes, I consistently needed to contact Maison du Monde through their online chat. When I called, I was promised callbacks that never happened, and I could never reach anyone from the “expert department” directly.

After 47 days since my first contact, with no follow-up on the agreed-upon replacement, we finally reached a supposed resolution—a refund—however, the terms were insulting. They offered a €100 store credit. This amount would barely offset the original cost for a bed that had cost us €435, including delivery, and would require me to spend that refund only within their store. This offer would have left Maison du Monde with no real loss, effectively allowing them to sidestep their warranty obligations. Meanwhile, I would have been left with both an incomplete refund and no functional bed.

This interaction revealed what I can only describe as a tactic to evade accountability and compliance with their own warranty. If I hadn’t been aware of my rights as a consumer, I might have accepted their offer, thinking it was the best I could get. This possibility—that others who may not know their rights could be taken advantage of this way—makes my blood boil. It’s deeply concerning to think that this approach might be common practice, with other customers potentially falling for it and bearing the costs.

Only after I referenced my rights under European law did they agree to a full refund. However, even then, they attempted to exclude delivery costs from the reimbursement. By this point, my patience was gone. I told Maison du Monde about my rights as a customer according to the European Parliament Directive (EU) 2019/771 and French consumer law, which state that refunds must cover all costs to rectify a defective product, including delivery.

Under Article L217-10 of the French Consumer Code, Maison du Monde must resolve my complaint within 30 days. However, they exceeded this deadline by 19 days, finally agreeing to the refund only after a total of 49 days had passed. This only happened after I refused to hang up on a customer service call until I could speak to someone from the “expert department”.

After 49 exhausting days, I received a confirmation of the full refund. I received my refund 57 days after I first contacted Maison du Monde, and my complaint was finally resolved.

Over the past two months, I’ve spoken with multiple customer service reps, and I feel for them—they’re on the front lines of a company that seems to use a strategy to wear down customers and avoid accountability. This review comes from deep frustration. I urge Maison du Monde’s management to review their complaint processes.

Just go to ikea you’ll get better quality & service

Honestly just go to ikea you’ll get better quality and service. I am beyond disappointed in this company. I ordered a slip cover sofa a little over a year ago. The zipper on the slip cover broke and we also had small tears in the fabric start to form so I contacted them. It took them weeks to get back to me after calling and emailing only to tell me it was considered normal wear and tear. When I inquired about just purchasing a new slip cover they told me they don’t sell them and aren’t available from the manufacturer. Who sells a slipcover couch that has no replacement slipcovers available? ?? What a giant waste of money absolutely terrible service.

This is the worst company i've ever seen in my life. My couch came ripped, no one is answering to help me get my couch returned and refunded. I read the reviews and I didn't believe them. Please trust me - don't do this to yourself. Buy ANY other couch.

Order not recieved but still charged for delivery.

I made a large order through Maisons du Monde we received only a few items. The other items were dispatched but no attempt was made to deliver the items to us. After a few months we complained repeatedly and then asked for a refund. We have been charged for the delivery of the (large) items despite no effort being made to deliver the items. We are extremely disappointed with the service and will never us Maisons du Monde ever again.

We bought a lot of furniture

We bought a lot of furniture. Upon delivery we didn’t get one item that had already been paid for. We have to call twice and the second time we were told to e mail them bank account number in order to get a refund. That was months ago and no word from them. No answer to our emails. Nothing.

Despite numerous efforts at getting…

Despite numerous efforts at getting this on line retailer to resolve an incorrect delivery they simply ignore your emails and waste your time.
I spent over €6000 on sofas with this company. After I first brought the error to their attention my order number ( complete with history) was deleted. So you ask for an update and they refer you to their website.
This asks you for your order details… as you cannot oblige as the system denies its existence you are left with visiting their stores. Clearly their on line operation is totally separate. On two occasions a member of their store personnel has written for help on my behalf. You receive an acknowledgment and are then referred to their weblink which starts with an order reference…
Round and round one goes….
NEVER NEVER NEVER USE THIS OPTION !

I have ordered from their online The furniture is nice, but the customer service just doesn't respondstore…

I have ordered from their online store for several orders to Portugal. Checked it now, wow, it's already over 5,000 euros. And overall, I was pleased with both the quality of the furniture and the speed of delivery.

But when something doesn't go according to plan, be prepared for difficulties in communicating with support. I should have read the reviews here sooner. One of my orders included a decorative figurine for 30 euros and a wall pano of fish. They were sent to me twice broken, I took pictures of everything, sent a video and they just stopped responding to me. This is not a good style of communication with customers.

I never receive my order

I never receive my order. When I call the number on the website says they are a store not the online service. When I send an email, they never reply. The worst store I ever came across with. The Delivery was never made and I don’t know how to have my money back.

Never shipped my items and no answers

Bought some furniture and they never sent me anything. It's been almost a month past the promised delivery date, they haven't replied to one single email, they haven't called me or anything. This is a scam, avoid at all costs. I initiated a chargeback. Just avoid the trouble and don't buy from them
