Dysphagia Course Limited administer the Manchester Post Basic Dysphagia Course which was established in 1990 to address the need identified by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists for postgraduate dysphagia training courses. The Manchester Post Basic Dysphagia Course is held twice a year in June and November and covers paediatric, adult and adult with learning disabilities but students usually specialise in just one client group. Since 1990 over 3,000 students have attended the course. The purpose of the course is to enable students to work independently with a dysphagia caseload. The course aims to support speech and language therapists to achieve the Proficient level of the RCSLT Speech and language therapist eating, drinking and swallowing competency framework (2025). The course aims to support non-speech and language therapists to achieve Level 5 of the RCSLT eating, drinking and swallowing competency framework for non-SLTs (2020) which equates to the Proficient level of the SLT framework. It is a practical course delivered by advanced clinical specialists and focuses on clinical competence. The course content is regularly updated to keep pace with current dysphagia practice.
