The versatility and quality of these little mic's is superb out of the box. Recording acoustic guitars and even pianos with the both m5's is just wonderful. recording tenor male vocals and even brass instruments is actually better than one would think. haven't tried them on drums but I'm sure they will make fine overheads. In Conclusion the build quality & versatile quality sound of these matched pair of microphones for the money is more than worth it. I will find these indispensable in my studio routine from here on. thanks Rode.

Stunning sound replication - first go testing them at the desk I knocked something off the cabinet behind me - when I was playing back the file I instinctively turned to try and catch the thing I knocked off the cabinet behind me --- doesn't get more real than that! And they are Rode , they come with a rode certificate of testing for closer than 1 db match ... all less than $300!
