fastest marathon

after running a few marathons with a lot of training, I tryed the 14km schedule. And guess what... I ran my fastest marathon. For me it is a relaxed way to prepare myself for the distance of 42 km

experience of an older amateur runner with Sportrusten (14k method)

I started running with my grandson at 64 years old, short before my retirement with the goal of running 15km, the AMCrun. I started my first 'training' in februari and after 600m I was totally exhausted. But after 4 month of, in my mind, very hard training (my own inexperienced scheme) I run the 15 km. It was not an easy run, much troubles and pain, So I stopped running for a while. After a year i started running again but still no 'professional' scheme and I run 10 and 12 km and after a while even the Dam-to-Dam 16km. I still had much trouble with 16km and therefore I decided not to run longer distances. But then I discovered the Sportrusten method. And after you have run 16km you want to do something magical, tes, the half marathon1 This time however I trained with the sportrusten method for the half marathon. And lo and behold I run the first 20km relatively easy. It was a pity that my watch said I was at the finish within a hundred meters so I sprinted but then I learned a lesson: never trust your watch but look at the signs of the organisation. Enfin I run the half marathon and felt very good and had no injuries or real muscle age. Now I was turned into a believer of the Sportrusten method! And as an amateur runner the Marathon is the ultimate goal and now I had the confidence to do it! So I started the training again via the 14K Sportusten method and in 2018 I finished the Marathon of Amsterdam! The first 32 km went smoothly but to fast according to the Sportrusten scheme so I had to pay for this a little in the last kilometers. But boy o boy I was and am very proud to have finished the Marathon once in my life and in the Olympic stadion. Nowadays I run every 3 to 4 days still 10-14km to keep in condition and on a healty weight. I use stryd nowadays to monitor my runs in stead of the heart rate measure. I am very grateful that this method was invented and write this experience therefore with pleasure so other people can have the same positive experience. Yes I can, YOU can, we can!

More than just another training plan!

I have completed two marathons using the marathon revolution approach. Having a demanding job and a family with two young kids, it was not sustainable for me to follow a traditional marathon training plan. This plan made sure I was putting in consistent and specific quality training. The biggest take away for me however, was not completing the marathons, but the positive impact of good breathing and regular breathing exercises on recovery and state of mind. It generally made me a happier person! And the book is a pleasant read ;)

4 marathons in on year with the training schedule of Marathon revolution

It took me an injury after a very intensive training schedule to realize my body needed just a schedule like the one in Marathon Revolution, in preparation for my first Marathon. Less stress, less training hours, running in the right zone, training on my breathing to lower my heartbeat. It felt refreshing to have a schedule that was not as taxing as the one before. I arrived at the start of the NYC marathon, nervous, of course, but not fatigued. I never, ever would have known that I could run 4 marathons in 11 months, with the marathon Revolution. My body is thankful for the program and now I ran 11 marathons!

Perfect mix of flexible trainings and being fully prepared

The running schedule of the Marathon Revolution is for me the perfect mix of running 4 days a week, with enough flexibility to plan my runs next to work, family and other commitments. It motivated me to continue, when training was difficult, and it helped me being fully prepared for my first Marathon (Rotterdam, April 2023). I'm now at day 60 for my second Marathon!
