Do not use

Background and Timeline:
I initially appointed Mayfair Business Specialists, paying £1,895 + VAT for their business rates appeal service. While the early interactions were somewhat pushy, they were at least responsive. However, following my initial payment, their communication became increasingly sparse. After a prolonged lack of updates, I attempted to terminate the agreement on 13th March 2023. Despite my clear desire to withdraw, they insisted I was bound by the contract and refused to release me, despite minimal work having been done on their part.

From that point forward, I continued to chase for updates, often reaching out daily, but received no meaningful response. In early January 2025, frustrated by this lack of communication, I planned to leave a negative review on Trustpilot, only to discover I was not alone in my dissatisfaction. In fact, Mayfair Business Specialists have no positive reviews, and numerous other clients appear to have faced the same challenges.

Shortly after this review, I received an unfavorable outcome regarding my business rates appeal. I firmly believe that the limited engagement I had with my assigned agent, coupled with their lack of communication and information gathering, directly contributed to the failure of the appeal. Given that this outcome could have been avoided had I been supported effectively, I am now in a much worse position, facing potential financial loss and limited recourse.

Continued Attempts to Resolve the Issue:
Since receiving the unfavorable outcome, I have continued my attempts to contact Mayfair Business Specialists, but I have received no response. My efforts to find further contact details were equally futile, as their website appears to be inactive, despite the company still being listed as active on official government records i.e. Companies House

This lack of response and transparency is not only concerning but is also impacting my ability to move forward with my business rates appeal. I am now required to apply to the tribunal to challenge the decision made by the VOA, but I am unsure whether I can do this independently, if I am still bound by the contract with Mayfair Business Specialists, or if I am liable for their fees given their complete lack of service.

Scam indeed

Scam indeed. I can backup all the other comments about them sending someone round, asking for money (and calling quite frequently about it until paid) and after that they disappear from contact. Dont waste your money.

DEFINITELY a well-organised a scam, initially very convincing as they send in a 'surveyor' and supposedly register you with HMRC. After this, you wont hear from them again and they will never respond to emails plus phone calls are permanently on voicemail - no response from them. Just RUN for your life and hard-earned money. I have lost £1,674 to this scam.

Yes definitely a scam

Yes definitely a scam, very convincing at first, sending a so called surveyor in and getting you to register with HMRC. Then no response from them. Business rates assessors name was Bernie Baird, if that's his real name.

SCAM They will lie to you and may say…

SCAM They will lie to you and may say there has been a change in the way rates are calculated in your sector but none of it is true. Also they say you can see all the communication relating to the appeal but again this is a lie as they had withdrew my challenge without telling me and i did not find out until i had spent a very long time trying contact the government department myself who informed me that what they had told me was not true

SCAM

It's a scam. I'm so upset to have believed the salesman who convinced me that my business rates were too high. His name was Bernie and honestly how do these people even live with themselves? I'm a small children's pre school, barely surviving in this economic climate. They fed me what I now know was spurious information and made false promises. Please beware these fraudsters, I've lost £1500
