McLaughlin Surveyors = MCL Surveying = GA Property Specialists… be careful

WARNING! This company will take your money, not do the survey, nor reply to your emails or phone calls. At least that's what they did with me. I only gave them one star because I couldn't work out how to give them none. I have reported them to the RICS.

Waseem Nabi was appointed to do my Energy certificate for the house I was selling and I was immediately impressed by his professionalism, efficiency, friendliness and helpfulness. When I found a property I wanted to buy back in February, he was the obvious choice as surveyor. Waseem was at pains not to deliver an off-the-peg report. He went the extra mile to find out if I had any worries about the property, and made sure that he looked carefully at those areas for me, as well as all the routine areas a very comprehensive report covered. The report was excellent and very detailed, which has been great in helping me plan and budget for what work will need to be done when I move in. As well as delivering a very detailed report very quickly, Waseem also phoned me to talk me through it and there were opportunities for follow up questions. I recommend Waseem and the company he represents (MCL Surveying) very strongly based on this experience.

I paid the service fee of GBP425 on 8/3/2022, but was no longer able to reach the sales representative of McLaughlins Surveyors by email or phone afterwards. On 14/3/2022, I googled them and found similar experience from other reviews. It seems that I might have became a victim of fraud.

Seems I'm not the only one they took money from and then phoned me to say they had gone into liquidation.
On Companies House it says they are still trading, but are listed a Crewe based company - is this the same company? They took my money on Tuesday 8th - phoned yesterday 9th to tell me about the liquidation. I'm certain they must have been trading illegally and have taken my money illegally so I will be looking into this further.

Scammers, beware! Took my money and then told they have ceased trading.

Will be consulting police on this company. Took my money for a survey, did nothing for a week, then a phone call out of the blue saying has gone into administration. Turns out from some online digging that their financial difficulties were known back in January yet they continued to trade and solicit customers.

I have heard they have gone in to administration

Took money, then called 2 hours after the appointment was due to say the surveyor had called in sick.

Have called 20+ times over 4 days and no answer to talk to anyone.

Paid £700 8 days ago and have heard nothing , countless emails and calls not returned . Survey hasn’t been booked In and could lose the house we are purchasing !! Have no choose but to go through credit card to get my money back and book another survey. Had been recommended this company 😡

Scam company, take your money upfront and then you can never get hold of them again

This was one of the cheaper survey companies that I came across when searching so I was initially cautious. However, I am really pleased with the quality of survey provided and value for money. They were prompt in quoting and also in letting me know availability- I was able to have it done within 3 days of enquiring! Jemima Bennett was my surveyor for a property I’m purchasing in the Bridgwater/ Taunton area. She was polite, professional and thorough in the level 2 homebuyers survey I had carried out. She identified some key areas that need addressing and even gave me a couple of suggestions of local tradespeople who might be able to offer quotes which I found very helpful as local knowledge of the area and housing stock is invaluable. I will be using her again for any future purchases!

Paid up front as they agreed to do a survey at short notice
They didn't turn up no one had put it in the diary and then wanted to do it 3 days later which was too late
Now still fighting to get my money back

Avoid this company. They appeared to have copy and pasted another report and failed to remove areas that were not relevant to the property I was purchasing. For example it said there was an old alarm, there is no alarm. The gully was blocked, it was not. They patio door was screwed shut, it wasn't. There were isolated damp readings in the property but no further information. I tried to clarify but was told the person I needed to speak to was on leave. The person I bought the property from who was present at the time of their visit also said she was very rude. Really wasted my money using this company. May as well of not bothered getting a survey done.

Avoid! They initially lure you with competitive quote and short lead time. Once you commit to purchase the nothing goes according to the plan. The surveyor didn't show up on at the property at the agreed date, and yet, no one thought of informing us that the survey has been rescheduled by another 2 weeks. we have found out from the estate agent. When you call Harry picks up a phone, but.. hey ho, there are two Harry's!! and whenever you call each one says you have spoken to the other one, then you speak to the other one and he says you spoken to the other Harry! Ridiculous. No question can be ever answered, all you hear you will get a callback, yet no call back ever. Poor service and no discount offered. Save yourself stress and delay in the process, not worth it.

Wassem Nabi was extremely helpful and knowledgeable with the survey. He provided me with guidance regarding some small issues of the house and he was very polite and approachable. Thank you Waseem

The report seemed to be very well put together. However, when I arrived at my new house, my radiators were live, my plug sockets were live and I had to pay a fortune for electrical work to be done on my house to ensure that it wasn’t condemned. On closer inspection of the report, the surveyor had taken a photo of the earth wire, completely disconnected from the meter but with no mention of this fault in the write up of the report. I have spoken to Pat at McLaughlins surveyors and her attitude is quite frankly, vile. Turns out, customer service isn’t their strong suit either.

Not even received my report yet but I had problems with the payment portal then I had problems with the T&C's portal and then I had a person telling me my confirmed dates were on my T&C's pdf where it clearly states 'estimate only'. not a good experience so far, let's hope it improves!

I received excellent customer service from Jade at McLaughlins. The surveyor Louie Webb was very efficient and I appreciated his professional attitude and helpfulness. I highly recommend using this company.
