Ace Your Consultant Interview (AYCI) helps final-year trainees and locum consultants prepare for their NHS consultant interviews. AYCI was founded by Dr Tessa Davis, a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at the Royal London Hospital, Programme Director of the Paediatric Emergency Medicine MSc at Queen Mary University of London, and co-founder of Don’t Forget the Bubbles. Early in her career, Tessa failed several interviews. She went on to build the structured approach to interview preparation she wished she’d had, and has now coached more than 2,700 doctors from all specialties. Our main programme, the AYCI Academy, is a four-week online course built around three milestones: Keeping Composure Under Pressure, Being The Obvious Choice, and Having Answers That Convince. Doctors join three live coaching sessions a week (all recorded), record their answers and get personal feedback from experienced coaches, and prepare alongside a supportive community of doctors at the same stage. Interviews don’t always come up when you expect, so our members can stay for as long as they need. Whether the interview is next week, next month or next year, they keep joining cohorts until they’ve got the job. We also offer one-to-one coaching, a free podcast, and free guides on NHS consultant interview questions, presentations and pre-interview visits.

5* for Tessa and the team!

I had an excellent experience with the AYCI Academy. I was a bit nervous to sign up, it was a lot of money but I think it was definitely worth it. I had completed another one day online course but it wasn't as helpful with relatively little "out loud" practice, limited and non-specific resources and being reliant on my memory/notes for the content. This is where the AYCI academy excels! There are plentiful resources which you can access whenever you want and go at your own pace. It feels complete and even the generic materials encourage you to work out how it applies to your specific subspecialty. I was also a little worried that I would be up against people who'd been through the academy - I wanted to make sure I was competitive against people with clear structures to follow and were polished in their practice.
The structure of the program makes sense in getting to the bottom of who you are as a clinician and as a (future) leader, capitalising on your experience and how this is going to make you an excellent consultant colleague. This process really helped to bolster my confidence, helping me realise that I'm an asset.
I really benefitted from the video uploads to get myself into the habit of practicing and the bespoke feedback from trainers was really helpful in honing my approaches.
When I was close to my interview there were extra resources which were super helpful, wide ranging and up to date.
When I had issues, the online support was friendly, responsive and helpful.
Overall 5* for AYCI Academy - thank you for helping me get my dream job!
