A breathtaking experience!!!

I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing a private tour of Addis Ababa on Friday, 17 April 2026 with Merit Ethiopian Tours, and it truly exceeded every expectation I had!!! My guide, Biruk, was simply outstanding—exceptionally knowledgeable, incredibly kind, polite, and genuinely warm. Having traveled extensively, I can confidently say he is the best guide I have ever had. His passion for Ethiopia, depth of knowledge, and ability to bring every place to life made the experience not just informative, but truly inspiring. Our driver, Bekele, was equally impressive—highly professional, courteous, and reliable, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey at all times.
What made this experience truly special was not only the incredible sites we visited—both within Addis Ababa and beyond—but also the constant sense of safety, care, and personal attention throughout the entire tour. I genuinely felt safe and well looked after at all times, which allowed me to fully relax and enjoy every moment. Biruk went above and beyond: his explanations were insightful and engaging, and his recommendations were spot-on, adding even more depth and authenticity to the experience. I would also like to highlight Muluken and Merit Ethiopian Tours for their excellent organization, professionalism, and kindness. Everything was seamless from start to finish.
Addis Ababa is a fascinating city, and Ethiopia is an extraordinary country—but thanks to Biruk and Merit Ethiopian Tours, my experience became something truly unforgettable. It was, without exaggeration, breathtaking.

We had an excellent experience during…

We had an excellent experience during our tour in Addis Ababa, specifically the “Day Trip to Adadi Mariam Rock Church, Rift Valley and Tiya Cemetery.” Our guide, Biruk, was very professional at all times—punctual, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of each place we visited. He answered all our questions and made every stop interesting and engaging.

We would also like to highlight our driver, Bekele, who did a fantastic job. He drove safely and made the whole journey comfortable and smooth.

The organization of the tour was impeccable, allowing us to make the most of the day without any worries. Thanks to their dedication and positive attitude, we had a very enjoyable and fulfilling day.

We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to explore the surroundings of Addis Ababa in a comfortable, informative, and well-organized way.

Authentic Cultural Experience with a Knowlegeable Guide…

Biruk is an excellent tour guide. He is hospitable, courteous, and knowledgeable. His knowledge extends to local tribal cultures and also to the ancient beliefs and practices of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. He also provided us with a authentic experiences such as watching a local villager make bread from a banana tree, which we were then able to taste together. I highly recommend his tour for an authentic cultural experience.

Great experience, I can inky suggest them

We did a half-day city tour during a long stopover in Addis Ababa and were extremely satisfied with the experience. Biruk organized everything perfectly — the pickup was uncomplicated and on time, which made the whole stopover stress-free from the start.

Biruk is very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The tour was well structured, interesting, and gave us a great first impression of Addis Ababa despite the limited time we had. Everything was smooth, flexible, and well organized, exactly what you want when you’re in transit.

Arba Minch

The small groups were great.
Liaison between the tour operator the hotel and the guides was good.
Hotel food was good, different and well presented.
All staff encountered were helpful and friendly.
Stand out feature for me was definitely the views. Absolutely spectacular.
What pulled the experience down from 5 to 4 star was the billed trip to Dorze village. This I found disappointing.
But a big thanks to Muluken and his team for arranging this for me. Much appreciated. And the serenity of Arba Minch a very welcome break from the hectic pace of life in Addis.

4 adult half day in Addis Ababa

We (4 adults) had a wonderful half day touring the city. It was Sunday so some markets weren't open but we were able to tour museums and places of worship. The coffee and lunch in a homestead was wonderful. Our driver was great, very safe with the busy traffic and our guide Biruk was very knowledgeable and willing to share. Meeting at the airport was easy and the van was comfortable.

the REAL local experience and context!

Absolutely amazing and unforgettable tour of Addis Ababa with Biruk. Seamless airport pick-up, flexible itinerary, really great full day tour of the city that included breakfast in the Merkato, St. George's Cathedral, the National Museum, lunch, coffee and views in Entoto, the Ethnographic Museum and Holy Trinity Cathedral. Ticked off my entire list in one day in comfort, and learned a whole ton about this fascinating and complex country's history and current affairs from a wonderful guide. Highly recommend this tour agency, especially if you're looking for the REAL local experience!!! Thank you for the wonderful time!

Great intro to Addis Ababa

Great introduction to Addis Ababa and Lalibela. We had an excellent guide in Addis - Biruk. Made my wife and my daughter feel very comfortable. In a short time (we had two days in Addis), we were able to see the best sites, and also got good local flavor. They also set up my side trip to Lalibela, and managed that well.

half day tour in Addis during a long layover

Me and my friend had a layover in Addis on route to Rwanda to attend a conference, so we decided to choose the long layover (sleep in Addis as part of the Ethiopian airline package) and arrange a half-day tour of Addis for next morning, before we left to Kigali in afternoon. Booking process was very smooth, Merit team assisted with itinerary and accommodated to our flight times. Henok was our guide, he and the driver (forgot his name, sorry!) picked us up from hotel at 9AM. We drove through the market, went to oldest coffee shop in town, to the Ethnological national museum to check on Lucy; followed by a drive to the mount Entoto and a tradicional lunch and coffee ceremony at a local family house. Back to airport by 2 PM, on time to our afternoon flight.
I have being to Addis airport several times for layover, never went out of airport. This long layover and half day tour was the perfect solution to finally see a bit of Addis and learn a little about Ethiopia history (it is very rich!) and local costumes. I recommend Merit tours for that, if you had the chance to explore a bit.
PS: Visa was smooth and free, as part of the long layover with Ethiopian airlines (they don't stamp the passport, it is done in boarding pass). You may have to sign a paper at your allocated hotel assuming responsibility for leaving the hotel, as the voucher from Ethiopian airlines includes hotel, meals and transfer from and to airport).

We had a great day with Zele our guide

We had a great day with Zele our guide. The schedule was flexible and very relaxed. We first had the traditional coffee ceremony in mt Entoto in the home of TG. So much food and snacks offered while we watched the whole process from coffee bean to coffe cup!
Next was the ethnology museum and the National museum. Zele impressed us with his knowledge of history and prehistory and the culture and traditions of Ethiopia. He also pointed to us different species of trees and plants and birds. His knowledge was impressive! He brought us to a wonderful restaurant for lunch serving Mediterranean food. He helped us buy our Tamoka coffee in the end. Enjoyed the whole experience! Thanks Zele.

Must do!! Great way to experience the local cuisine and culture

I had an amazing time in Addis thanks to my guides!! In 22hrs I was able to have a local and traditional dinner experience, coffee ceremony, walk/drive to explore more of the city and really get to know some local people. Travel is all about who you meet and I’m so glad I did this!! Highly recommend- and the team was so helpful to fit in my itinerary between my flights.

Phenomenal tour!

From start to finish our experience with Merit EE Tours was excellent! First, scheduling and booking with Muluken was extremely easy and smooth. We had some ideas of what we wanted to see in the city on our day tour, and Muluken gave us helpful advice and suggestions that made us rethink some things. Communication with both Muluken and our guide, Biruk was very proactive. On the day of our tour, we met Biruk easily in our hotel lobby despite our last minute hotel change. Our first stop was the National Museum, where Biruk impressed us with his knowledge of Ethiopian natural history and politics! After a brief stop at Mt. Entoto, we went on to have a very special lunch and buna (coffee) with a local family. Not only was the food wonderful, but we chatted and laughed easily with our animated and gregarious host TG, despite language barriers. It was great fun and felt like we were in a friend's home. We so enjoyed participating in the coffee ceremony by washing, roasting and grinding the beans. And Biruk teaching us how to summon the neighbors to share a coffee will be remembered forever. Our last stop was to a handmade pottery factory. This too was a unique and memorable experience, and we were happy that Biruk offered this alternative to the Mercato at our request. Thank you to Muluken, Biruk, our driver and TG for the fantastic experience and great memories of Addis!

Wonderful day tour in Addis

We booked a tour of Addis through Muluken and Merit Tours. All details were easy to sort out through WhatsApp. Biruk met us at the airport and went out of his way to make sure everyone in our group had a great time. We were treated great and really enjoyed the tour.
The highlight for sure was lunch and a coffee ceremony on Mount Entoto. The meal was great and our host was wonderful. Lots of laughs and very relaxed.
Thank you for a wonderful intro to the city.

Biruk was amazing

Biruk was amazing — he was so kind and flexible and make the experience so unique. Our driver was also wonderful. This was my second tour with Merit and I would highly, highly recommend.
