Really great water cooled tier 3 pc build with no issues
I just recently got a computer built from Microcenter i was looking at the water cooled tier 3 build for 250.00 and i was not to sure how i felt about doing it because of some of the negative reviews that i was reading online. I went back and forth between a few company’s for a week not being able to decided who i wanted to go with. I knew Microcenter has been around for a long time and that they have really good products and good prices but some of the pc build reviews people left made it sounds really bad and i was thinking about going somewhere else. I don’t want anyone else to go threw what i did because from start to finish i had nothing but a great experience with Microcenter. I placed my order online after picking out all my own parts, I did chat online with someone and they gave me the number to the store so i could chat with someone at the cambridge location. When i called them i talked to Sam and she went over every part i picked out and made sure it was compatible with everything and even emailed me the list of all the parts after. I took a day to think about it and submitted the order online, i got a call maybe an hour later saying he looked over all my parts and everything looked goo and that it would be done in about 48 hours. ( yes there website does say they will build it for you in 4hrs i really think they should just take that down because anyone should know thats just not going to happen no way they are staffed for that but someone at Microcenter should take that off the website) anyway next day they called me with a couple questions about how i wanted the fans set up and then that night they called me and told me it was all ready to pick up. I ran to the store they give you all the boxes that everything came in PC was packed up nice in the box and the build looked great. I did a little cable Managment because i am picky but it might have been fine for most people. Computer is working great only has been one week but everything has been great so far and i just want to leave my great time with Microcenter on here so people know its not all bad. Im not sure what some of these people really went threw or if they where expecting to much but I have nothing but good things to say about having Microcenter build my PC and i hope this helps someone else’s decision a lot easier than mine.

I want to rescind my one star review of five days go
Excellent service, I've been a customer for over 20 years
This was my third home growing up, I built my own computers and today I purchase from Micro Center in bulk. They stand by their product like no other company
I recently bought a desktop
I recently bought a desktop, keyboard, and mouse from micro center. I also visited the help center due to an issue with my laptop. Evan helped me spec out my desktop and did a fantastic job. Chris helped me pick out the perfect keyboard. Finally, Joe was the best when it came to helping me with my broken laptop. Can't thank you guys enough!
Disput resolution
This is a review in response to a previously posted review. I received a call from the 'General Manager' in response to my scathing posted review of terrible customer service a the Duluth GA. Store. He apologized for the ill treatment that I received during a recent purchase/return for service. He assured me that the treatment I received was TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!, and offered to make me whole. I so appreciate his concern and offer.
Useless Tech / No Communication
Useless Tech / No Communication
There is quite a bit here, so bear with me:
Initially ordered the Computer Diagnostics online. I selected my date and time and input my payment information. Two days later, I get an email stating that my order was canceled due to "stock availability” or my "order was not picked up." I thought this was
strange, so I called Micro Center and they said I didn't need an appointment to just bring it in.
So I did just that. I brought my PC in on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 12:30pm. Mind you, their website says 1-2 hour diagnostics on most things, which I understand some things are a little more serious than others. However, the website does advertise same-day diagnostics if you bring it in 4 hours before they close. So I called around 4pm to check on the progress of my order - and they hadn't even started it. I was told that I would get an update soon on the progress. I call again at 6pm to check the status and the tech was finally working on it and said it was passing all hardware tests and that he would finish it in the morning (Sunday, May 7, 2023) and update me. I asked about the same-day diagnosis and he stated "sorry for our website misleading you, but same-day is 24 hours." After much disagreement, I said sure.
So I waited until the next day about 26 hours after I dropped off my PC. I call back for an update and I was informed that my tech wasn't even working that day and they he would be in the next day (Monday, May 8, 2023). At this point I am furious. These folks
don't know what the heck they're doing.
I finally get a text message from my tech stating that there are "five cases of malware” on my PC and that they could remove it for me for $99.99 and also suggested reimaging Windows for $99.99. I told them I could reimage Windows myself and opted to pick
the PC up and take it home.
Here is the kicker - when I got my PC home and booted her up.... it wouldn't boot. It stuck on the motherboard splash screen. My SSD was busted. I called Micro Center to explain what happened and another tech said to bring it back in so we can look at it. I live over an hour away from this place and they wanted me to bring it back in so they could screw my PC up more? No. I purchased a new SSD and installed it myself, along with a new copy of Windows and works like a charm.
Don't trust the techs here. They don't communicate with you and also break you property. If I could give a 0 / 10, I would. Waste of time and money.
Suspicious Fraud Prevention
Never heard of this place, but my son asked for a computer and suggested this business. After placing an order, company wanted a photo copy of my drivers license and a photo copy of my credit card. Seems way too easy for this business to steal too much information from the customer especially information linked to my bank account. Needless to say, will not be ordering from them in the future and will go to a more reputable and known establishment. Be advised and careful if you do place an order.
Tip for consumers:
Do not order anything online with the company.
Products used:
Only potential purchase of a computer and order was cancelled due to not wanting to provide a photo identification and a photo of my credit card linked to bank account. If this business wants to encourage any online orders, it should deal with fraud in a less intrusive and more secure way. I mean even my bank alerts me when suspicious activity occurs and sends me (and all customers) an alert immediately to lessen the chance for fraud without wanting PII that is easily stolen/sold to nefarious companies.
¡¡DONT TAKE EQUIPMENT IN FOR REPAIR…
¡¡DONT TAKE EQUIPMENT IN FOR REPAIR BEFORE READING THIS!!
It saddens me to have to share this frustrating experience with a store that since 2019 was my preferred option for purchasing computer equipment and services for my small business. Multiple purchases and a true promoter of their services I was until recently, when I had the bitter experience of taking one of the same equipment purchased from them to the technical department so that they unlocked the PC since we had forgotten the access pin. To my surprise, after 2 days, due to an "error" by one of their technicians, they deleted all the data from the PC, which, being for commercial use, contained hundreds of documents and an image bank with more than 5,000 photographs, most of them They bought and others paid through photographer services. All of them used to update social network profiles of more than 12 companies for which our office manages their online presence. Despite the fact that the store sent an attempt to recover the data to an external place, we found ourselves obliged for the duration to try to get the pc back, to pay again to recover the data and the hundreds of images owned by the companies to which we take their networks, so as not to lose the contracts we have with them.
To make a long story short, the computer was returned a month and a half later, and not with all the data recovered, and our small business lost over $15,000 due to this error by one of their technicians. We formally request that the store take responsibility for this damage to our office, but to our surprise they have decided not to do so, demonstrating with this that there is NO guarantee at all in their repair shops. This is definitely serious. But since we live in a rights society, this company was currently sued for damages in the Gwinnett courthouse. Very soon I will update on this case. In the meantime, I invite you to take all the necessary precautions before trusting a company like Micro Center, which if for some reason something similar should happen one day, does not offer any type of guarantee in its equipment repair services.
Would not Recommend
Charged me an arm and a leg for shipping then my package was delayed 4 days and stuck in nowhere. then it showed up only in the factory box with a big hole in it sitting in the rain hole facing up. this company is a joke. customer service was no help whatsoever. would not recommend. but from BestBuy or Newegg instead
the ONLY electronics shop that matters
In my personal experience shopping at micro center, I can only explain and reiterate as positive. Although at times lines may be long, prices are not always the best, and yes it is quite the drive, I still find micro center to be my GOTO electronics store.
I purchased my first 3d printer through their store, in person (199) as well as a 2 year warranty which was no more then like $60 USD.
I had to use my warranty in no more then a few months (due to user induced error with the printer) but the employees helping me were very accepting and understanding and actually put the FULL value I paid for my last printer towards my new purchase.
I've since bought 2 laptops, 3 pcs, a multitude of accessories ( which include keyboards, headphones, mousepads) all with warranty. For reference the keyboard i bought was $60 and warranty was about $5. Doesn't get better.
Micro Center Doesn't Care About Customer Service
I've been going to Micro Center for about a decade now and this last service I went to them for will be the last they get my business. I paid for an upgrade of CPU and to install an extra SSD drive in my computer. As it turned out when I brought the computer home, one of my previous drives was not showing up. I had to disconnect everything and bring it back to the store. They fiddled with it for about 30 to 40 minutes, while I patiently waited in the store. Long story short, they could not figure out the issue and decided to tell me there were no options for me; the SSD MV slot was simply not working any more and it's just something that "happened," they said probably after the BIOS flash to run the new CPU. They were not willing to even attempt to make me whole in any way. This is a work computer mind you. The manager idiotically refused any and all options I was willing to take and walk away despite the non-functioning MV SSD slot. With my computer still somewhat dismantled (including an expensive audio card they had taken out to access the SSD slot) I told them firmly since they were taking my money and were not willing to do anything, to give me everything back and that I would at least look more into it. After 3 days or so of downtime and lost wage, I finally figured it out on my OWN, no thanks to them. They simply just don't really care to figure out problems or work and compromise on solutions. So, they got my money. They got one over on a customer, they "win" I guess.
More than 20 years with no bad experiences
I'm a semi-retired IT professional and have been shopping at Micro Center for more than twenty years. I've yet to have a bad experience there.
I presently live more than two hours from the nearest Micro Center (the one in Yonkers, New York), but still consider the trip worthwhile. My most recent trip was yesterday, March 3, 2023 to buy a GPU that they only had two of left in stock. I placed the order early in the morning, and it was ready by 10:00 a.m. when the doors opened.
What I like most about their stores is that most of their employees are smarter than I am (or at least more current, since I'm semi-retired now). There's no point seeking advice from people who know less than I do. I want people who are smarter than me.
Micro Center also has excellent inventory. You can walk in with nothing and walk out with everything you need to build a computer.
What I usually do is order anything that's on sale or low in stock online for store pickup. Then I shop around in the store when I get there an add whatever other stuff I buy to the pickup order. That assures that the item that was the main reason to make the trip is still available when I get there.
The bad reviews are actually bad customers
I have shopped at Micro Center for many years. Their return policy is incredibly generous; their in-house Inland products are generally a good value; and they can sell you a computer ("PowerSpec") brand that is worth the price of entry and, get this, actually serviceable by anyone with half a brain. Unfortunately most of the reviews here, lack said half a brain. People are human; stores aren't perfect. But if you want to pretend that one of the best-regarded computer stores in the US should be more like a 5-star restaurant, and bow down to your idiocy, then you are gonna be disappointed.
Slowest shipping I've ever experienced
Slowest shipping I've ever experienced, ordered from them and Heusinkveld the same day within hours of each other. package from Heusinkveld made it from the Netherlands to being delivered in Michigan in 3 days! meanwhile my package I ordered from them still sets at their distribution center that is only 3.5 hours away from me. talked to their chat person yesterday and said it takes 1-3 days to ship, so seems to me like they take full advantage of their timeframe which also tells me customer service isn't a priority to this company, this will be my first and last order I ever place through microcenter!!
Did I also mention I paid extra to get faster shipping?
Madison Hts. - Anthony B.
Anthony B. In technical service department of the Madison heights store did a terrific and fast job for both myself and my wife. Separate issues and different notebook computers. Very personable and professional. Great job!
Awful place
Awful place. Used to be decent now just a screw the customer place. Paid to have my data transferred and they never did. Charged me 300 bucks for nothing, and never got another 400 bucks in software. I’m older - made fun of me and tried to shame me out of the store when I complained. Bunch of male bullies working under the supreme bully of all - the manager. Customer service never returned my calls of complaints. They are a joke.
A big disappointment
I don't usually buy here, but on the recommendation of a friend, I decided to buy an Intel core I5 laptop at MicroCenter, since I needed it for classes via zoom. A week ago I turned on the computer and the camera simply did not work. I consider that a laptop can be damaged with use, but in less than two months and with so little use, without it having been moved, it tells me that they are not selling laptops that are good, it's a shame, because I thought it was a good place, now I realize that it is not.
Huge disappointment with Microcenter's return policy
Wow, what a terrible disappointment! After 10 years and at leasat 8-10 thousand dollars of purchases from Microcenter, Microcenter pulled a bad one on me.
I told Microcenter's staff that Outlook, in my 2019 version of Microsoft Office, was no longer working despite my best efforts. They recommended I update and purchase Microsoft Office 2021 Home and Student version to replace my 2019 version. (The 2021 Student version was the only one Microcenter was selling, available only through a download.)
On returning home and loading the Office 2021 Home and Student version, I discovered it did not contain Outlook at all! Microcenter's advice to me was wrong. Of course, I deleted it and then brought the 2021 version card back to Microcenter for a refund.
Believe it or not, Microcenter refused to reimburse me, despite its bad advice. It said it would not do so because I had already tried to install the incomplete version of Office 2021. Microcenter never informed me that the incomplete computer software it recommended "could not be returned." Tough luck, customer.
So Microcenter turned a ten-year satisfied customer (me) into an extremely unhappy one. It does not honor its advice. Microcenter has permanently lost a very loyal customer.
Avoid John at Westmont IL
I would not recommend going here for a serious computer hardware repair. No one in my family has ever walked out of the Westmont IL location with our computers fixed. Most recently, I spilled juice on my expensive laptop. I acted quickly cleaning up as much as I could, turning it off, and waiting two days for it to dry at different angles before turning it on. Before I turned it on, I took the computer to John, an older man hopefully close to retirement. He refused to look at it claiming that motherboards are super expensive and they would not even be able to look at it for two weeks. I took it back to them after I confirmed that the laptop still worked normally minus the keyboard being sticky. Unfortunately, John was working that day as well. He coldly asked me if I had any "quick questions". I told him the laptop worked fine and began to inquire about the cost of a keyboard replacement. He still claimed that the repair would to be too expensive and not worth the time. It was clear from his excuses that he just did not want to take the time to repair a computer damaged specifically by a liquid spill. Then another guy came out and told me the same thing. I didn't want to take my computer to a place that was determined not to take the time to give the laptop an honest look. I couldn't trust them. So, I went somewhere else that was very reputable. They actually looked at it and told me it was just the keyboard that was damaged and had it fixed in a few days. Moral of the story, don't get your repairs done at Micro Center, at least not at the one in Westmont IL.
Edit: This was typed and posted on the laptop that was spilled on and then fixed.
Do not buy things here. No returns!
Do not buy things here. You cant return them. The 15 day returns are a joke. Nobody has that kind of time commitment. Two mothns ago they suckered me into buying a premium grade display $149 over online price that is not compatible with macbook laptop. Went in to the store with packaged product and receipt, asked for store credid and they would not honor the return. Stared looking at networking products, all on average 15% over retail market average.
Honestly some brick and mortar dinosaurs like this dont deserve to be supported.
Amazon to the rescue. I will line Besos’ pockets in exchange for decent customer service.
