Incorrect debt advice given and…

Incorrect debt advice given and questionable selling of their profitable debt services. They insisted on taking my income, assets and expenditure information for my partners sole DRO application. We have no joint agreements, we are not financially linked and the debts are theirs alone. I was then told that my parter would be found to have beneficial interest in my property because they pay rent (I pay all of the bills and upkeep of the house that I own). What my partner pays would be classed as reasonable living expenses. When asked why my information was being taken, I was told that the whole households income and expenditure was taken into account (this is not true on an individual application), I asked if this would be the case if there was an adult child was living in the property, the advisor confirmed it would be if they contributed towards the house (this is not true on any application). We were then told that my partner could not go ahead with the DRO as there was too much excess income, the excess income is solely mine but the adviser insisted that 48% of it was my partners because it’s a household income (again not true as it’s an individual application). If my details were not included, which they should not have been and the debt advisor had no right to insist on taking, there would have been no excess income. The debt advisor asked me if I wanted debt advice, again he had no right to do this, I am not his client. The adviser was pushing my partner towards a debt management plan or an IVA but this was based on my finances. Essentially implying that I have to pay my partners debts. Baring in mind that money wellness make circa 80% on payments made via an IVA it’s highly questionable that this was the product the adviser was advocating for. This ‘gentleman’ put the fear of god into me and partner, inferring that my property could be at risk and that I would be responsible for my partners debts. He left me physically shaking and extremely distraught. I have since spoken to a debt advisor from a different organisation who has confirmed that the information given by money wellness is incorrect. This should have been treated completely as an individual application. We will be seeking advice elsewhere and will be logging a formal complaint against this adviser.

UPDATE: despite their words of concern in reply to my review, no one from money wellness has contacted me nor responded to my formal complaint letter. This will now be escalated to the ombudsman

Hi.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about our service. We want all our customers to come away from us feeling supported and happy, so we're very sorry to hear this wasn’t your experience.

Feedback like yours is taken extremely seriously so, in light of your comments, we’ll carefully reviewed the advice provided.

We understand how receiving different advice from various organisations would be confusing, especially when dealing with such important financial decisions. The technical aspects around individual applications, household income assessment, and beneficial interest can be complex, and it's crucial these are explained clearly.

Your concerns about the advice provided and the approach taken during your consultation are important, and we're sorry you felt pressured or distressed during what should have been a supportive process.

We'd very much like the opportunity to review this properly and discuss your concerns in detail. This will help us understand exactly what happened and ensure you have clarity about the advice given to provide a response to your complaint.

We'll arrange for a senior advisor to review your case thoroughly and give you a call to discuss our findings.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
