Thankfully finished our tenancy with Montrose. There's an older lady who works on the desk at the Montrose branch in Didsbury and we've had a few encounters with her and she is not really rude but definitely jaded.

We handed our keys back and were informed the property would be checked within 24hrs, we didn't receive a report or any information regarding our deposit until I contacted them 2 weeks after handing back the keys. The report was eventually sent the following week and we found out there were no deductions, although Montrose showed absolutely no iniatitive to return the deposit. I then had to chase for the deposit return to be told it would be with us within 24hrs, which then did not happen. Had to further chase Montrose for the deposit, eventually received it. Thanks.

I would also mention their online portal for inventory is clunky, full of bugs and tedious, gives the impression that it was created back in 2010 with no improvements made since. The check-in inventory would not show the whole document and you cannot add your own comments (for example they did not log the bathroom was unclean or blinds were mouldy and I wanted to add this to the inventory at the start of the tenancy), I just had to email back any additions to the inventory. So please be hyper vigilant when first checking into your property as their check in inventory seems to be less vigorous than the check out one.

There are also excessive emails at the start of the tenancy as well and the documents are all sent separately and becomes very difficult to track.

I fedback to Montrose regarding the excessive emails and the online portal at the start of the tenancy 28/06/26 (you can check your emails Montrose). All I received back was 'sorry the portal doesn't work for you'
Does not seem like an agency who focus on improvement or value feedback.

Just a typical letting agency. I'm sure if I was a landlord it would be a different story.

So glad I chose Montrose Brown I would not have wanted any other through such a stressful time. Quickly responded to my calls and emails. Esme pushed throughout the whole process to keep everything moving quickly and on track she is a star

I was really impressed with the service from Montrose Conveyancing I received when selling my London flat lately. In fact it's been the smoothest and easiest conveyancing experience I have had, having bought and sold 3 properties already in my life using other Conveyancing firms. They were friendly and patient when speaking on the phone and never gave me the feeling that I should go away and let them get on with it, and were prompt with their responses. They are based miles away from the property I just sold, so I would normally have thought I should have used a firm a bit nearer, but working with Montrose is proof that this isn't a necessity at all.

Based on this experience, I would recommend them. It was a very good service for a very fair price, and they worked quickly and efficiently. I'm very happy.

HIghly Recommend! Penny was fantastic, very on it with chasing up everyone else involved and providing us with regular updates via email. It was tricky getting other solicitors to stay on track but Penny was relentless in applying pressure to get the sale and purchase through.

Katie was as helpful as you would want your solicitor to be when you're a FTB and have no idea what you're doing! Very responsive, NEVER had to wait more than 24h for an email back (usually would respond within a couple of hours). I would definitely recommend Montrose Conveyancing, they are very professional, patient, understanding and very reasonably priced. I will be coming back with my next purchase, no doubt!

I had a nightmare experience with this company. They were rubbish at getting back to emails and anytime I phoned I was told that they were busy and to expect a call back. I was never called back. The most notable flaw with our conveyancing was that Montrose gave us a completion date, and told us we would be getting the keys to our new home on a set day. That day came and me and my partner travelled to our new home, only to receive an email late that day to say there had been a “slight error” and that the sellers had never confirmed they were ready to complete. Montrose handling of our case was poor and sloppy. Even when I asked for a call back on the day our house purchase fell through, I was told by Penny that they had another sell that was due by the Friday so that was now more urgent for her to deal with. It was shocking service, no customer care, and despite complaining we were given a generic response shifting blame to other parties, holding no liability. We were sent so many documents, that we had to check over each time in great detail, due to us receiving “completed” documents that would be empty and needed checking over. Simple things which you would hope your solicitor would complete, as they’re supposed to be professional at the end of the day.

I would avoid this firm every time, do not go near them! There are plenty other solicitors rated 5* out there that may be a couple hundred pound more, but I promise you it will be worth the money that you would be wasting on Montrose.
