Terrible customer service - shop elsewhere.

I have long been a fan of Mrs Bow Tie products, but I have to agree with other negative reviews that their customer service is shocking.
The nose wire in my face mask broke within a month (despite moderate use and appropriate care), allowing exhaled air to escape from the top of the mask. When I raised this with customer service I was told that the masks are still "perfectly usable without the additional nose strip" (demonstrably not true) and "therefore cannot be rendered 'not fit for purpose'" (presumably because they don't have a purpose). I was also lectured about the transmission of SARS-CoV-2, which was entertaining as I am about to complete a PhD in virology.
Perhaps even more concerning than this flagrant disregard for the quality of their products and customer experience, Mrs Bow Tie also knowingly withholds negative reviews of their products. I note that the mask in question still retains a five star rating (with five sold in the last 36 hours), despite my one star review, which will presumably never be posted.
I will not be shopping with Mrs Bow Tie again, and I suggest that you do not either. I, like many, would love to support British businesses in these difficult times - but the disgraceful attitude shown by Mrs Bow Tie while attempting to capitalise on the Covid-19 pandemic renders them "not fit for purpose".

Hello Chris,

According to our records, you sent your first email in the last days of December 2020 when we were closed for a week over Christmas and New Year, and sent a second email on Tuesday 5 January 2021, which was the first day we returned to the office after the Christmas break.

As I hope you can understand, we had received a large volume of emails over the week and were unable to respond to all of them on the first day we returned to work.

A few days later, we replied to you, exchanged messages, and were able to respond accordingly by immediately refunding you for the incorrect item, along with an apology for the mistake.

It is unfortunate that we were unable to reply to you before you decided to leave a 1-star review, and didn't consider the time of year and circumstances when waiting for a reply.

Nothing was too much trouble for him & I always received prompt responses to my enquiries.
Small businesses such as this need supporting during these tough times & I really do recommend these guys.

Disappointing service

I ordered 4 masks on the 16th July costing £60 I have contacted the company numerous times as I still haven’t received my order and I have not received a reply either.

I chose this company as I wanted to support a British company during this time, how disappointing!

Hello Maxine,

When you placed your order for x4 face masks on 16 July 2020, it was 3 days after the UK government announced that face coverings would be mandatory inside all public buildings and a time of huge demand for face masks. We had received orders for between 3000-5000 face masks a day in the 3 days prior to your order, and so your order was behind all these orders.

Due to this high demand, we stated in the shipping selected at Checkout "Free UK Mask Delivery (Allow 10 working days for delivery)". By 28 July 2020, just 8 working days from the date you placed your order, you had expressed your wish to cancel your order because you felt it was taking too long.

We highlighted the timeframe advertised in the shipping, explained that orders could not be cancelled after being placed as masks were made-to-order (as was stated in our terms of purchase), and that orders were facing a slight delay due to overwhelming demand. We received another email a few days later claiming you had not received a reply to your initial email, and we responded to this with a copy of the previous email. Your order was dispatched soon after, and weeks before you left this review on 30 August 2020, and a shipping confirmation email would have been sent with the DHL tracking number.

At the time of the government announcement, all retailers of face masks saw an overwhelming explosion of demand, unlike anything that has happened before in online retail. From 13 July (the day of the announcement) to 21 July, we received orders for 3000-5000 face masks every day.

As most of our team were furloughed at the time, and couldn't be easily un-furloughed, we were operating on very limited staffing at the time of this sudden surge of demand. As such, just three team members who weren't furloughed covered all areas, including customer service, working 11 hours a day to fulfil orders as quickly as possible.

I'm sorry you felt the response to your customer service email wasn't quick enough, but I hope my explanation has been able to give a more rounded view of the circumstances at the time.

Kind regards, George

Shop at MrsBowtie !!

I have shopped with this retailer since 2014 and they have never failed to disappoint. Where I have requested exchanges I have received hassle free exchanges (free return), on one occasion I cancelled an order shortly after making it and they promptly refunded and cancelled the dispatch. All items I have received are of the highest quality and standard I could ever ask for, customer service staff are always understanding and professional, and it sincerely bothers me to see people leaving nasty reviews in light of a small independent business being overwhelmed by a spike in demand so high they could not have prepared for it.

Excellent!!

Excellent company. I've bought some ties and pocket squares from them in the past and they were top quality. Recently bought some face masks: one "large", one "medium", and one "child" - they fit me, my wife and my daughter perfectly and a are the most comfortable masks we have tried so far. There was a slight delay with shipping the masks (due to very high demand), but I think that was completely understandable.

Excellent Quality Masks

Ordered x2 face masks on the 16th July, i believe by this point the company had been inundated with customers purchasing masks. Cant believe the negative comments people are making. can't comment on customer service but i received my masks in just over 2 weeks , which for a small british company trying its best to keep afloat in unprecedented times i think is an excellent turn around . My 2 medium blue lace masks are of an excellent quality very well made , soft too touch fit snuggly over the nose and under chin, they are also breathable making them comfortable to wear in shops. Thank you Mrs Bow from a very satisfied customer.

Shocking Customer Service!

*Updated for more clarity*

Shocking. Worst customer service I've ever had.

We made an order just before lockdown happened, (apparently a joint purchase doesn't give me the right to leave a review according to Mrs Now Tie) then they emailed us saying are we sure as lots of things have stopped. We were like, great! Our wedding has been postponed so that works out well.

My good experience with Mrs BowTie stopped there. A week later they "laid off" 50% of their staff, presumably customer care and anyone in accounts because our order placed on the 14/03/2020 wasn't refunded until 24/07/2020.

As you can see by the 11 months delay in responding to this review, customer service is not their strong point.

We chased constantly without hearing anything back. They didn't "deliberately ignore my many emails" (phone lines didn't do anything either) it was due to circumstances that I was ignored. Does that make my experience better? No. It was still a terrible experience. Their customer service is beyond poor. It took five months and an email to the CEO to get a refund, which is completely unacceptable.

*Update* it's nice to see that a year later they responded to my review, actually did look after their staff, and bent over backwards to not take any blame.

My wife bought me and the dog matching ties as a Christmas present and these actually are very nice. If you don't have any problems then the product is fine, but you have an issue customer care is a disaster.

Hello Joe,

I'm afraid your version of events is wholly inaccurate, and I'm disappointed that the transparency we showed in our communication has later been used against us to make untrue statements. I'm further disappointed that you have a left a negative review regarding an order placed by someone other than yourself, presumably your partner, particularly as our system shows your partner has since returned to shop with us again since you left this review, rather than "avoiding this company".

First and foremost, at no point were 50% of our staff ever sacked!

At the time, the Covid-19 pandemic was increasing in the UK and worldwide, and between 9-20 March 2020, all businesses in the wedding industry (including ourselves) took a massive hit as couples cancelled or postponed their weddings. For ourselves, this meant very few new orders and a high number of cancellations and returns, which meant that our production staff very suddenly found themselves with no work.

By the end of that first week (13 March), we had to make the difficult decision to temporary lay off 50% of the staff. "Lay off" in UK legal terms means "Your employer can ask you to stay at home or take unpaid leave if there’s not enough work for you." These members of staff were never "sacked", and were immediately put onto the furlough scheme when this was announced (with backdated pay to cover the time they were laid off). Thousands of businesses across the country did the same thing at this time, and it was not a reflection of us as a "terrible company".

On Saturday 14 March 2020, an order was placed by someone under a different name, presumably your partner ("the customer"), for x7 ties and x7 handkerchiefs of the same pattern. We believed this to be for a wedding, as most orders of this kind tend to be (and you have confirmed this in your review).

Upon returning to the office on Monday morning (16 March), we recognised that your/your partner's order was likely also for a wedding, so we contacted the customer to ask whether they still wanted to go ahead with the order, or if they wished to cancel/postpone the order. It was during this communication that we explained that we had 'laid off' 50% of the staff and were operating on limited staffing. That was the last week before the UK lockdown, which was announced the following Monday (23 March) and effective immediately. As such, your order had not been fulfilled prior to the lockdown being announced.

Like many others, we thought the lockdown would only be for a few weeks. As we all now know, this went on far longer than a few weeks. During this time, our staff were furloughed and, under the terms of furlough, were not allowed to do any work - including customer service. This meant that your many emails in the weeks that followed were not being deliberately ignored, but were awaiting a response when we could return to work.

Upon being able to return with very minimal staff in July, we issued the customer a full refund for all items, apologised for the length that had passed (even though it was outside of our control), and offered to give them 25% off as a goodwill gesture if they wished to place the order again in the future when the wedding was able to go ahead.

I understand that the period of the first lockdown left things very 'up in the air', particularly as the announcement of the first lockdown was effective immediately, left things unresolved, and continued longer than most people expected. However, it is also disappointing that this hasn't been taking into consideration when deciding to leave a negative review, and the content of that review.

We are a small business, not a giant like Amazon or ASOS, and have tried our best during the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns. We are sorry if we have not been able to meet your expectations during this time, but we hope you are able to understand the circumstances.

Kind regards, George

Horrendous service, never buy from Mrs Bow Tie

This company has one of the worst returns / exchange policies. I will never buy from them again. I was told to submit a returns/exchange request. After one week, I was told that the request had not been accepted. I wanted a pre-tied bow tie and unfortunately ordered the wrong self-tie one.

I regret buying these items. The material also feels cheap - and I was 'robbed' of £64.00 and didn't even wear the two bow ties to the event I wanted to go to.

I never leave negative reviews for companies, but there was nothing positive about Mrs Bow Tie.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, their policy is “If you buy it. You can’t return it”. This is shocking to be honest. Everyone should be alerted to this.

Sketchy return policies.

I didn’t realise how “sketchy” their returns / exchange policies are. Had I looked at them prior to me placing my order, I would have most certainly not placed the order.

I regret buying these items, the material feels really fabricated & cheap - the clothes don’t look premium at all. For £40/top that’s pretty much expected.

I’m sorry I couldn’t leave a more positive review, unfortunately there was not a lot of things to be positive about.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, their policy is “If you buy it. You can’t return it”. Which is just shocking, to be completely honest.

If I could have, I would have returned these two T-shirt’s.

Unfortunately I won’t be buying from this company again. A shame, because the T-shirt designs were fairly quirky.

Over the last couple of years I've had…

Over the last couple of years I've had some excellent, stylish products from this small company. The service has always been swift and the bow ties I have had always look smart. I've never had to use Customer Service so can't comment . I'm aware that in this current awful situation the company has had to close but once the world opens for business again I will be proud to continue supporting a local business.

Quality materials and service

Quality bow ties, pocket hankies and cummerbund. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff at Mrs Bow tie. I bought my first item 6 years ago, and I will keep going back. I left the latest purchase too late to order online, but they somehow managed to get my order out on a next day delivery after their cut-off time. Thank you all @ Mrs BT.

Colour is a matter of opinion?

Have had the worst experience with customer service. Very patronising and management was no help. I ordered a tie that was very noticeably a lighter shade than was shown on website. After requesting a return and sending back (postage paid by me) I was refused a refund because "colour is a matter of opinion".

Returned Once Again

Have used Mrs Bow Tie several times now, always an easy process. Great designs and I'm sure that I'll be back in the future. The only thing that bothered me was the amount of packaging used for just one bow tie, however, it's easily recyclable due to it being cardboard. Have never had a problem with the company and I don't believe that I will have one in the future.

Great Customer Service

I ordered a pocket square for a wedding a month in advance, for two weeks the order sat at Heathrow - due to a screw up by Royal Mail,

I emailed Mrs. Bow Tie at night, had a response the next morning saying the will look into the issue with Royal Mail and had a second pocket square on its way to me to make sure I had it for the wedding - arrived a day or two later,

Great customer service

Great customer service when dealing with problems!

Mrs Bow Tie came highly recommended, however due to lack of material they sent me a pre-cut pocket square instead of a full handkerchief. Although they informed me via my account, I was not informed via email or telephone, and therefore I was not aware of the issue until the very last minute. This cause a massive issue with my planned wear for the evening.
After feeding this information back to Mrs Bow Tie, they gave me a full refund for the item, and have genuinely regained my trust and future business.
On top of great quality products, they also know how to treat their customers!
Very highly recommend!
